Woman Tells Her Sister NOT To Have A Puppy When She Has A Baby, But She Doesn’t Listen
995Kviews
Back in 2007, one Imgur user told her sister NOT to get a puppy when she had a baby. What she didn’t know then was that the doggie and her niece would become BFFs…
Since the day the girl was born, the black Lab was always by her side. Occasionally, the doggie would eat the baby’s cookies , but other than that, their friendship was clearly budding.
As the girl grew a bit older, the two established a Sunday tradition to watch morning cartoons together. Whatever they were doing – sitting in a car, playing, or just chilling on the couch – they were inseparable. The adorable duo even walked to school together! “They’re pretty much the bestest friends ever and I’m eating my words.”
Years had passed, and as the girl grew, the doggie started to show clear signs of aging, such as getting a grey ‘beard’. Still, he was loved unconditionally. I mean, how can you not love a dog who agrees to dress as a princess just to please his friend?
This year, after 10 years of being together, the aging canine got some benign tumors removed – and while he’s laying there weak and recovering, the girl doesn’t leave his side. If this isn’t friendship, we don’t know what is.

We just lost our precious doggo, she passed away in her sleep. She looked just like this one so I'm crying again.
My dog passed 19 years ago, and I got him when I was 5. He also looked just like this dog. All these years later, and I still tear up thinking about him. I'm so sorry for your loss.
Thank you, she was such an important part of our family. :(
<3
My black lab, Captain Black, passed away at eleven. He contracted Blastomycosis, which is highly prevalent in labs. Here's a video where the vet discuses how dangerous this can be for hunting dogs who love getting in water. "Blastomycosis: The Hidden Danger in Your Dog's Favorite Boggy Play Spaces" - http://healthypets.mercola.com/sites/healthypets/archive/2013/05/13/blastomycosis-infection.aspx
How lucky you are. I pray my dear, sweet 14 year old chow goes in her sleep. I cannot bear the thought of her suffering, nor the thought of euthanasia. And, yep, I'm crying right along with you.
Sorry about your loss.
yep i just lost my dog that was a golden retriever and black lab.. i has 13 years old 6 weeks.. i got him when he was 6 weeks old and he died in my arms on 4/24/17
People should understand how important it is for kids to have pets around to teach them compassion, how to care for living creatures and overall because furry friends never let you down. Of course this only applies to responsible parents who don't see pets as a Christmas/birthday present that will end up in a shelter after leaving a puddle on the carpet or when the family wants to go on holidays. But people like that shouldn't have kids either, IMHO. I grew up with cats and dogs (they've already been there before I was born) and would never want to miss all the wonderful and sad moments I experienced with them <3
Shut up, Lara Ross. You're ruining the beautiful comments.
Absolutely agree. Pets teach kids to be more responsible, care and guard the loved ones.
Super cute, but the sister wasn't wrong to give this advise. Many people have had issues with with babies and dogs. The dogs often get neglected or given away because babies need so much time and care. Glad she was able to balance both.
Agreed. Her sister was absolutely right and although I'm glad this story had a happy ending, many pets actually lose their home when a baby comes into play. A newborn is more work than anyone (with no experience in this domain) can imagine, and a new pet is extra work. I don't think it's wise to take those two challenges at the same time. If you wait even just a year or two, your child will be able to build the same close relationship... and she might even make more memories (since unfortunately dogs will leave you after 12-15 years, and most children won't remember much from before their 5th birthday...).
Olga, there is a difference between twins and dogs. You usually can't decide to get twins, and no one said that it is impossible to handle both. If you get a dog, you decide to get one. And you shouldn't forget that a dog is a different species. You don't know how your dog react to the baby even if your dog is the nicest dog ever. Not to mention that little childs can manhandle the dog (accidentially, because they have to learn fine motor skills) That doesn't mean it is impossible and obviously in this case everything went well. I'm kind of happy that it was makeable, but the advice wasn't unnecessary.
Just the three reasons God made women because babies man and puppies are a lot of work usually if they are both very young you don't have issues with aggression from the dog toward the chat they grow up as if they were siblings
but it's also a whole lot of work to have twins. same with a baby and a a dog. and telling someone "don't get a dog" is NOT and advice, it's more like an order. when you give advice, you should present all pros and cons and let someone decide for themselves.
who cares what you think? what's important is what THEY think. if they know they can handle it, they should do it. if someone had twins would you tell them to give one away because it's "too much work"? and I would never consider my son to be "a challenge", he's an adventure.
Lighten up..... with love of a family all becomes as it should be and from what we see love abounds in this family. How else could that precious girl be as beautiful a child that she is
...Some damn ninja cutting onions again. *sniff
Thanks for sharing my story! This was going to be the photo for the update, but then with the tumors, they had taken the sweet picture of her not leaving Bentley's side. It was a beautiful, bittersweet moment. 2017-01-15...124f81.jpg
Are they your girl and dog??? Tell us how are they!
The bonds we get with our dear four legged friends hasnt got any words. We never exchanged words. Only actions. And feelings. Resting besides your doggo friend, is always the most soothing thing in the world.
my dog died at the beginning of this year because he had an infection in one of his back legs. I've had him since I was born and he's in most of my childhood memories this has been the worst year ever so far for me i miss him a lot. this post really hits home ... too close.
My companion dog of 11 years passed away 7 months ago and I am still grieving. The sad part of having a dog is that they have a short life span and I am terrified of having another!!!
I'm gonna cry. When I was 7 my mom got me a dog, she was with us for 15 years. When she passed away was just like losing a family member (because she was one) <3
I'm in tears, this is just lovely!

This is so beautiful. Unconditional love in its purest form. To see a child give and receive love this way is a parent's greatest reward.
True friends see beyond species..
Their friendship is beautiful. :)
WoW! Amazing. Cute daughter.
Cute!
Amazing story. That's what true friendship is <3 I also grue up with dog, he passed away couple of month ago and this story drove me to tears
true love ,,,
My dog would start crying if i did when i was a baby RIP gemma 😭
It's Family 😁
this story reminds my first dog. She was my best friend 7 years. The last moment, she laid down and waited for me com home from school... ;(
this only happen to dog and owner that really have a great connection. I really envy them because they have the chance to spent 10 years, while i only can spent 5 years with my dog. he already passed away.. http://bcabet.com
Love it. Dogs & children together melt my heart.
Very cute! But from the last picture, I'd say that's a she dog, not a he!
Those are actually his stitches from having the multiple tumors removed. :(
You're right! I could see it when I zoomed in! Poor guy!
Really? :( :(
Lol male dogs have nipples too. Just like male humans. Here's a pictures of my neutered (but still very male) border collie mix asking with some of his nipples. I even drew arrows so they wouldn't be mistaken for the cute spots on his fur ;) https://goo.gl/photos/zEGi4hUeLcNSwtAj6
Interesting! My male terrier didn't seem to have them so I guess I was over confident as a result :)
It isn't why or why not... it's the profound. Emotions of the heart and the soul cannot be put in words, our descriptions leave us wanting. These they are only felt as all who see this feel themselves
Best friends!
Good Doggie x x
Sweet <3
She is gonna be so sad when he passes away, as will I. How do you tell a child her best friend died?
Clearly this is a loving family and the girl being properly raised is well adjusted. With the slowly gathering age sshe is being eased into the realities of life and death. This is a fortunate child
This how i was with my golden. When he pasted i was heart broken
Goldens are such gentle, beautiful souls. I'm sorry for your loss.
Really? Why do you want me to cry at work? At least it's for a beautiful reason.
OH MY GOSH!!! I CANNOT HANDLE THE DOG WINKING IN THE FIRST PICTURE!!!!!! AWWWWWWW!!!! This was one of the cutest things I've read all day :)
aww
Aww has the dog died yet? This is the sweetest relationship ever.
The litle girl will need a training for the death of her prefferred dog. Life is like this and strong attachments have to get cut off. Keeeping precious the souvenirs - will always be there
aaw
Pets are the best
Actually, my parents got their first dog - a very lively young Setter puppy - some five months before I was born. I do not know how they managed, but they loved him very much. He was very protective of me when I was a baby and toddler; though he insisted on distance between us as I grew older. My parents adored him and he lived until he was about 14...
I wish dog is immortal being.. :(
This melts my heart. My dog just passed of old age last year. He was 14. My other dog passed away almost ten years at 12. Dog are amazing.
Throughout my 71 years there have been many times when my best friends were and still are my dogs. They are so faithful with their love and understanding with my life of constant pain. (Lupus & Fibromyalgia)
Very nice to see. But starting out is a lot of poop in a lot of difference directions.

The parents should not allow the child to sit on the dog or dress it in clothing. Have some respect for your 'best friend'.

What a beautiful story of unconditional love between the two. How blessed were they to have been given this beautiful gift?
the love and bond of a dog is beyond comprehension they are so loyal and would give their life for us I had a boy in a wheel chair one of my shephereds was always by his side wherever he was heaven help anyone who tried to touch him
Such a wonderful story of love between a girl and her doggy. I loved it!
When a relative or friend dies, we get time off and so much support. Same should be when our pets pass because it's devastating :(
I love that she got to experience that level of friendship so young, but I'm also afraid for how badly her heart will be broken...
Most people can't (and shouldn't) raise a dog like this. But when you can love a pet as if it's a person, you get something pretty special in return. My family adopted our first dog when I was 4 years old. She watched over me so well! She died when I was 16 :'( It was so heartbreaking. Not long after
We adopted Cindy Lou. She's 13 yrs old now. She can't hear a thing but it's the most precious and loving animal I know. She still lives with my parents. I have my own pup that a year and a half. He kept me out of a pretty deep depression after a divorce. All my dogs are rescue dogs. They are the best. I LOVE coming together with fellow dog lovers!!!! <3
