Coworker Steps In After Woman Brags About Filing False Reports To Have Ex's Dog Put Down

Breakups bring out the worst in people. Most of the time, that looks like a strongly worded text or eating an entire wheel of brie alone on the kitchen floor. Occasionally, however, someone decides that none of those options quite captures the depth of their feelings and reaches for something unhinged.

One woman cheated on her partner, got dumped for it, and decided it was everyone else’s problem. She hatched a cruel revenge plan and stupidly announced it to the entire office. Sitting nearby was one animal lover who heard every single word and decided they were absolutely not going to let it slide.

An animal-loving colleague picked up the phone, called the police and animal control on the same day, and then reached out to the ex directly to make sure he knew what was coming

Her probationary period ended and she was terminated the same day, storming out wordlessly into a future that now also includes potential criminal charges for filing false reports

A woman got caught cheating and deservedly got dumped. But she decided that the appropriate response was to file false bite reports against her ex’s dog with the goal of having it euthanized. She was not subtle about this plan either. She bragged about it repeatedly at work, in detail, to multiple colleagues, despite knowing that at least one of those colleagues was a devoted animal lover.

The animal-loving coworker, who had lost a cat to a cruel act as a child and was not about to watch history repeat itself, called the non-emergency police line and animal control on the same day. The police took a report and explained that it would raise the standard of proof required for any future bite report to be taken seriously. Animal control also said they would require more proof.

The coworker then reached out to the ex directly, who was shaken but not entirely shocked and immediately got to work. He obtained copies of the police report, gathered vet records, installed security cameras, and got a letter from the dog’s obedience school confirming she had never shown any aggression toward humans or other dogs. He also filed for a restraining order.

The coworker was terminated the moment her probationary period ended. She stormed out wordlessly. The dog is safe, the ex is protected, the coworker is unemployed, and the office animal lover is an absolute hero.

This plan itself was never as foolproof as this coworker seemed to think. Dog euthanasia following a bite report is genuinely a last resort, with multiple steps required before any authority would consider it. Animal control investigations, veterinary assessments, bite severity evaluations, owner history checks, and hearings all stand between a report and any drastic outcome.

The false reporting angle, however, is where things get seriously legally complicated. Filing a false police report is a criminal offense that can be classified as either a misdemeanor or a felony, depending on the jurisdiction and the severity of the claim. Consequences include jail time of up to a year or more, heavy fines, probation, a permanent criminal record, and civil lawsuits.

This woman was still on her probationary period, so these coworkers were basically strangers to her. Oversharing to this level was risky at best, and as Psychology Today put it, leaves everyone feeling awkward. It is a cringy habit that has no place in the workplace, especially not if you are still on probation.

The oversharing cost her the job, the revenge plot earned her a restraining order, and the dog she was targeting is currently thriving. There is a lesson here about keeping your personal life off the work floor, and there is an even bigger lesson about not announcing your illegal plans to a room full of people. She managed to miss both.

How would you have handled the situation? Let us know in the comments!

The dog is safe, the ex is protected, the coworker is unemployed, and the internet has crowned the office animal lover an absolute hero

Scum. Absolute scum. She's going to get arrested sooner or later. Hopefully sooner. Hopefully K9s are involved in restraining her.

Karma would be for some other dog to bite her right now. It'd be the Girl Who Cried Wolf.

Ex coworker does NOT need to learn to keep her mouth shut! If she had, OP wouldn't have known about her evil, sociopathic little scheme and wouldn't have reported it! Also, does anyone else remember the movie "Beethoven", where the villain stages a dog attack by putting fake blood on himself and provoking Beethoven into getting aggressive? (Even then he's a good boy and doesn't actually bite him). I can still hear the voice of the youngest child in the family yelling "he hit Beethoven!" because she saw the whole thing and knows the psycho is lying. Well, now I'm all nostalgic. ^_^
