Artist Imagines Disney Princesses On 1940’s Mystery Novel Covers, And The Result Is Badass
You're used to seeing Disney princesses in pretty dresses in fairylands far far away. However, thanks to Astor Alexander, a freelance illustrator from San Diego, Califonia, you are about to find out that these fictional ladies look wonderful in a completely different setting, too.
"Noir Princesses" is an awesome illustration series with a pretty self-explanatory title. It features - you've guessed it! - Disney princesses as badass noir characters. It's a "stylish" crime genre, emphasizing cynical attitudes and sexual motivations. Noir fiction protagonists are usually self-destructive, dealing with a corrupt legal, political or other systems. Their stories often lead to lose-lose situations, too.
Astor has perfectly captured the aesthetic and atmosphere of the genre while preserving the distinct personalities of the princesses. Scroll down to meet them and tell us what you think in the comments.

"Miss White & The Unlawful Seven"
"unlawful seven", does that mean that the dwarfs become the antagonist?
Lana Parilla in SnowWhite's role as badass girl... Not bad at all!
"Beast Hunter"
Yeah! Unlike Pocahontas above (apparently), this one does not look like she’s doing such a good job...
Load More Replies...So is she trying to kill the Beast? Because if so she’d be a lot like Gaston.
Is just me or Belle looks very alike Stephanie Powers? Wow!
I'm getting Peggy Carter vibes from this one and 'Miss White & The Unlawful Seven'
Claire, from Resident Evil Revelations 2! https://vignette.wikia.nocookie.net/residentevil/images/f/f2/Resident_Evil_Revelations_2_Claire_Redfield_render_01_alpha.png/revision/latest?cb=20170521220336
"Shadows Of New Orleans"
"The Goddaughter"
I couldn’t see Cinderella smoking, but otherwise great job, the outfit looks great 👍
"Pocahontas Private Eye"
Pochahontas would have been a natural choice as a Zane Grey-type western (IMHO)
I'm thinking this isn't a white woman. I may be wrong but she doesn't look white

Looks nice at first until you read it like it'd be in Chinese and then you realize it really does not flow off the tongue. Really stilted, actually.
"The Arabian Heist"
"The Long Sleep"
Stunning work, just fantastic. I normally avoid the 'Disney princess as...." posts, but your artwork is just magical.
"High Sea Robbery"
Nicely done details. Her wet hair is amazing, and you managed to get her color palette for the outfit in there.
I guess if Chris Pine can back up Wonder Woman, he can back up Ariel as well.
One fascinating aspect of reimagining Disney characters lies in the innovative storytelling, as demonstrated by different artists. While one artist has chosen to depict these characters in an edgy, noir style, another artist offers an equally imaginative take by portraying them during pivotal life events.
For instance, if you’re interested in exploring how Disney characters might celebrate joyous occasions, you might want to look at how they would appear on their wedding day.
Not only would I read these books, I would love these as prints for my house!
I only clicked on this to say "can we stop now with the reimagined Disney princesses please!" Does that make me a troll? Ohmigawd I've never trolled before. Can I put this on my resume? HI MOM!
Great, I would like to read these books... especially "Miss White and the unlawful seven"
They look really badass. BTW, were there really so many people smoking on 1940’s mystery novel covers?
because EVERYBODY was smoking at the time - especially the "badasses" , have a look at movies from the 30s and 40s... :-)
