My name is Alexa Geibel, I am a photographer from Germany.

I made a project about Depression from which I have suffered for many years.

Depression..

Just work more, they say..

Sleep more, they say..

Walk more, they say..

Workout more, they say..

It is not real, they say..

You are just imagining that, they say..

I am also depressed, haha, they say..

Your life is so good, how come you are depressed, they say..

Just party more, they say..

You need more sex, they say..

Broken arm is real, depression is not, they say..

Why do you always have such a bad mood, they say..

Eat more chocolate, they say..

You need a man in your life, they say..

Just go on vacations, they say..

It is not an illness, they say..

Depression is not real, they say..

If it is not real, how come every year almost 800 000 people take their life?

If it is not real, how come globally more than 264 million people of all ages suffer from depression?

264 million people!

If it is not real, how come 12% woman and 5% man in Germany suffer from depression?

How come?

These are self portraits which I have taken when I hit the rock bottom and I really thought that I would never climb back..
