Once a company goes public it apparently stops producing washing mashines or code or whatever and just needs to produce money. Every manager's priorities #1, #2, and #3 are next quarter's bottom line to appease share holders (well: and get bonuses). As everyone knows wages are the single most expensive waste of money - and the worst ones are for those who don't create, i.e.maintenance, from quality assessment and health/safety personnel to IT and technicians. So staff shrinks, the rest are overworked, but, YAY, the profits are great! Until customers notice quality loss and sales go down. New CEOs appear, the old ones having gone to greener pastures, pockets fat with bonuses, ready to optimise their next victim to déath. Now "we need to improve", i.e. do more work with yet less staff, who are even more overworked and underpaid, and less likely to get better because now money is tighter than ever - but the stock market is looking great! That BS system is rigged and unsustainable, FFS.

Ok, let's pretend you were born in the year 1900. By the time you are 14, World War 1 breaks out. When you turn 18, the Spanish Flu hits (think COVID); when you turn 29, the Wall Street Crash hits (the biggest economic crisis); and just as you think it's finally over, at 39, World War 2 starts. From your 50s to your d**n 90s, it's the Cold War (the world could end at any moment kind of thing), with Korea, Vietnam, Cuba, Iraq, and many other wars sprinkled in. If you manage to make it to 101 years old, you get to witness 911 too, because why not F your worldly outlook on life. People today need to look back at history sometimes before screaming end of the world all the time.

There are no practical skills that will save you from climate change.
