Born to John and Mary Seraphine, Daniel Peter Seraphine grew up in Chicago’s Dunning neighborhood, soaking in an Italian American household atmosphere. He began playing drums at age nine, inspired by his uncle.
After attending St. Priscilla Catholic grade school, he later withdrew from Steinmetz High School at fifteen but continued his musical education, studying privately with percussionist Bob Tilles at DePaul University.
