Scarlet did fully recover and was well loved and cared for until she passed away in 2008. Unfortunately, one of the kittens, a little white one, died a month after the incident from a virus. However, after 3 months of recovery, the remaining four kittens were adopted out in pairs and Scarlet herself received a loving home.

I lived in san francisco for many years so did robin it was common to see him out jogging by the golden gate bridge. once downtown i was going down on the elevator, i think it was the 101 california building, and who should get in but robin williams, i was amazed. it was just him and me on the elevator and i thought he would make some lighthearted joke or comment about being on the elevator together, you know owning the moment as only he could, but he was completely shut down and didn't say a word. i've heard this same story about him from several places, when he didn't have an audience he was very quiet and reserved but have three people staring at him and suddenly he came to life.

At first, you might not know what to do with this information. But I have two words for you: trivia night. As Jaya Saxena wrote in GQ, no one can claim to have invented "knowing random stuff for fun," but the trend gained a lot of traction in the 1970s. While the original Jeopardy! daytime game show premiered back in 1964, the nighttime syndicated version started airing a decade later, around the time when pub trivia began to take off.

Of course, pub quiz nights have evolved and a lot of that change has been organic, the first formalized version came about in 1976, when Sharon Burns and Tom Porter peddled quizzes to pubs in southern England.

At first, the idea was to give bars a way to get people inside on slow nights, but the concept of pub quiz turned into a cultural phenomenon. In the U.S., groups like Pub Trivia USA and America's Pub Quiz organize city- and state-wide competitions, often with serious cash prizes.

Can.... can she adopt me? My mom steals my money, got me hooked on opiates at 15 and then ruined my dads life, divorced him, took everything he had and then tried to take all of his things when he died despite being divorced from him for 16 years.... then tried to get me back on opiates when he passed after I was clean for 8 years all because she thought I needed to "let loose and forget about him" and she was "just being a mother".... yeah yeah yeah I should save this for my therapist but it's Saturday so you people will have to do and yes she has been permanently cut out of my life since. So I am looking for a new mom. Lol.

The other option is having an instinct for self-preservation that is so strong it overrules parental instincts. Both are valid options and there's not much you can do to change them. I hate posts like this. Well done on the mom, but it's not unethical or wrong or being a bad person if you just manage to save yourself.

"We don't want people to walk into a bar and feel like they can't contribute for a round," Cullen Shaw, co-founder of the NYC Trivia League, said. "If there's a really difficult 17th-century poetry question, maybe there's one person in the bar that knows that, but a sports question comes up after that and they let someone else answer. That's what's fun about team trivia."

But you don't even need a team to participate now. Hundreds of thousands of people log on every night to play HQ, and though the app can be glitchy at times, it hasn't stopped folks from trying to claim hundreds and sometimes thousands of dollars in prize money.

But learning obscure facts isn't just fun. It's also good for our mental health. For example, experts say that playing trivia games can provide a dopamine rush much like gambling, but without the negative effects.

"You get a rush or a neuroreward signal or a dopamine burst from winning,” John Kounios, Ph.D., professor of psychology and director of the doctoral program in applied cognitive and brain sciences at Drexel University in Pennsylvania, told Healthline. “I think whenever you’re challenged with a trivia question and you happen to know it, you get a rush. It’s sort of like gambling.”

And he sued her for leaving his show, and when he had cancer, she paid all of his medical bills. She is amazing, and amazingly intelligent. Colonel Tom tried to bully her into giving "I will always love you" to Elvis Presley, and she did not give in!

interesting story-I was in one of these cage trucks when a lioness took against the women standing next to me. Don't know why? Smell? Began roaring at us from 6 inches away and trying to claw her through the cages. Got more and more wild until the driver decided to cancel, as we were driving out the lioness jumped on the roof and pissed all over us. I have genuinely never been so utterly intimidated. It would have killed us all in a heartbeat and my ears were ringing for hours. Plus we totally reeked. Dam those animals have a deep growl

Mars is no place to raise a kid. It's cold, no breathable air, frequent dust storms, and almost no water period (let alone useable water). That said, it would make for an interesting visit. This is worse than it sounds- he was in the cold and dark in the capsized boat which sunk at a depth of 30 metres. When rescued he had to stay in a decompression chamber for 3 days before he could breathe normally again.

    WildBerry
    Community Member
4 years ago (edited) Created by potrace 1.15, written by Peter Selinger 2001-2017

Andrew - he could breathe normally in the chamber. The reason he needed to be in it is because his body absorbed so much nitrogen from being at depth for so long. If he simply tried to be on the surface, he would get 'the bends', a condition that happens to scuba divers when they over-stay their depth limits and then come up or when they come up too fast. It's like a soda in a bottle fizzing out after you shake it... the gases (mostly nitrogen) can 'hit' any part of the body and case death or cause disability. So they regulate the pressure in the chamber and 'bring him up' slowly, as if he were doing the required decompression stops on a long dive. Many divers who work salvage and such routinely spend time in a chamber so they can lessen their underwater time to decompress.

I went to school with a boy whose Granny served with her. She came in to the classroom one day during the schools Open History day and told us all about it.She said the Queen just sat and talked to everybody like they were her equals at meal times and was always happy in her work and never complained. She was just "Happy to do her bit". She get's her attitude from her mother, who said "I am sort of glad that Buckingham Palace got bombed as now we can look the East end in the eye". The east end of London was heavily bombed during the Blitz.

No, she used her gender. The National Service Act - not a draft - only applied to males between the ages of 18 and 41. So, she wasn't obliged to do anything but she did it anyway. Next time you try to criticise someone, perhaps review the facts first, that way you are better equipped to make an informed comment. She hasn't served in the military. It is an honorary rank, one of many that gets given to them, and means absolutely nothing. Kudos to the Queen and all and I have nothing against Princess Anne, but it is meaningless.

he just seems like such a decent guy and awesome dad. I remember when Nirvana was first doing well and someone asked him what the 1st thing he'd buy with his newfound riches and he said a nice BBQ grill. He wanted such a normal thing, a thing you enjoy with your family and friends while you feed them.

Trent Reznor of NIN does this - his band is just the musicians he hires when he has to tour and can't do that. On another note, I've met Dave Grohl and he is the nicest guy, has a contagious energy and is very funny!

Yes! How I miss that man. Did you see him, or the video, play guitar with Tom Petty, Steve Winwood, Jeff Lynne, Dhani Harrison at the 2004 Hall of Fame Inductions? They played "While My Guitar Gently Weeps". I loved the story I heard about his performance - no one could get a hold of him, he never came to practice, they didn't even know if he was showing up. He just showed up, blew the sky open with his playing and went home. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6SFNW5F8K9Y If he never had done a thing other than play guitar, he would still be a legend.

Do prisoners receive free health care in the US? If so, I can see why someone would go to these measures. I've seen how much hospital bills can be, that must push many US citizens into bankruptcy. E.g., What's an elderly man with cancer going to lose by doing this?

I would personally like to thank all of the politicians, other government employees, pharmaceutical companies, and insurance agencies for making it this convenient to obtain health care. It's great knowing the patient's wellbeing is the primary concern as opposed to the millions or even billions of dollars there are to be made.

Makes sense, since we also choose our actions, whether we’re conscious of it or not. That’s the reason why it’s a good idea to take a moment to let your better sense catch up with your knee-jerk emotions before acting on them. Takes a little effort—-or CBT—-to retrain yourself to do that, but it’s worth it.

I once fell off a bike backwards after hitting an unseen obstacle (low branch, it was pitch dark). Back of my head hit the pavement but I was saved by my dreadlocks which I had in a tam. It was like wearing a cushioned helmet. Only damage done was my clothes were all muddy and I scraped a knee or something.

I would ride it, good privacy! Also I think the seats are not as small as they seem, there only being 3 seats in a row as opposed to 4 in a regular bus.

As an amateur beekeeper, you couldn't pay me enough to get stung 23 times. Over the years I've developed such an allergy that one sting on my face makes my eyes swell shut. Also, they could have just used male (drone) bees. They can't sting, only the females can.

I seriously doubt carbon levels from human activity were of any significance in regards to global climate in the early 13th century. And for the most part, the vast areas Mongol conquests wiped people off from were not farmland but grassland - rather empty spaces from the start, then. Basically the Mongols were looking for more and more pasture for their sheep herds, enhancing their nomadic way of life all around, while fighting anyone who could threaten it.They killed so many people because they sacked and destroyed the big cities of the mighty Asian empires they had as their neighbours, but I think it wasn't very long until the populations from these regions came back to normal under their rule afterwards.

From an interview with Stallone, quote: So I said to Dolph, “We practiced one thing, [but] let’s just go at it for the first 15 seconds. I want you to try to knock me out. Just bomb away.” Well, he did. And he gets me in the corner, and he’s bombing away, and I’m tryin’ to slip the punches and then he comes with this uppercut in my chest, and I went: That hurt. Okay. Cut. Let’s finish the rest of the day. That night, I felt this thumping. It was hard to breathe. I went to the emergency room. My blood pressure was like 290, and they put me on a low-level flight to St. John’s Hospital where I was put into intensive care because the pericardial sac around my heart was swelling and impeding the beating of my heart. I was there, like I said, for nine days surrounded by nuns. Source: https://ew.com/article/2006/12/22/why_rocky_iv_is/

The quote is actually from the Hindu scriptures when Lord Vishnu takes on his multi armed form and tells the prince Arjuna "I am become death, the destroyer of words" Oppenheimer used the quote, but it is not his.

Automatic Kalashnikov model 47. Designed so that if Russia were ever invaded again-the people would have something decent to fight with. Cheap to build, incredibly reliable, and beloved of dictators globally

The M16 is a subpar weapon the Kalashnikov, but hating Communism is so ingrained in the US, we aren't allowed to have them in the US Military. Instead we have black ink Bic pens as a part of the uniform (will get in trouble if you don't) to push firing pin back when it jams. It jams all the time. They'd rather have troops in combat die from jammed weapons than buy a Communist (superior) weapon that our enemies have.

It's both. The two are not mutually exclusive. The minnows can still beat the giants and that's what we love about it. You will seldom find that in business where the big fish usually wins.

Him donating $83 one time is to the rest of us like donating less than a dollar. He probably makes more than that in one minute. Doesn't mean he's a charitable hero. If anything he could be setting up foundations for others to donate to and publicising which causes to donate to. I hope he does more, he clearly can.

A male chimp is 3 times stronger than a man physically. IIRC, 75 % of proteins they eat go to their body muscles, while it is less than 30% in the human body, the rest going to our big, enlarged, demanding and rather psychotic brain. That's also why chimps and humans look so different, in spite of being genetically so close : our metabolisms are not the same at all.

It's not necessarily a bad thing either. It's awful if you feel pressured into plastic surgery to match some kind of beauty standard, but it's perfectly fine if you just want to change your face because you like it better this way. Body autonomy and all that you know?

Several years ago, a man in China sued his wife for fraud. Their child looked like neither of them, and he accused the child of being very ugly. The wife finally admitted to having had extreme plastic surgery, such that the child did look like her original self. I have no idea what was the outcome of the case though.

This seems a bit unlikely, it takes weeks for the swelling to go down from facial plastic surgery and if they have rhinoplasty with lateral osteotomies they would need to wear either a Plaster of Paris or a thermoplastic splint to keep the bones in place while they heal, it would be more believable if they had trouble getting through customs because their faces were bruised and swollen and they had casts on their noses. I appreciate new techniques such as Piezosurgery reduces the soft tissue damage compared with traditional 'cold steel' but there is still some swelling. I am an operating room nurse for facial plastics and ENT surgery. You don't wake up from surgery fully healed, and an extended stay in another country would be very expensive.

Face shape too, her face is more oval now, which matches the beauty standard in China. Not that it really matters though, as long as she's happy.
