They are small, extremely delicate and fearful animals who have no interest in biting a human. Only two Australian spiders are even very dangerous, while most spiders can't even hurt you as much as a rabbit or a gerbil could.

There was also a story on the news a couple of years ago about a man who had unknowingly moved into a house infested with a brown recluse spiders in my state, one of the two deadly types we have. He lived in peace with a few hundred of these spiders without ever getting bitten. Yeah, they do have toxic venom that can cause serious harm if you are bitten, but they are reluctant to bite, and rarely have cause to target a mammal unless they feel threatened by it. They are overall peaceful creatures. It's the wind scorpion/sun spider you gotta look out for. Those things are vicious. I had two in my house before and they RUN. Seriously, look them up. They are amazing, though kinda terrifying, due to the fact that they are so tough. But again, pest control. They kill off flies and other smaller insects, primarily, and can help limit the risk of parasites in a given area, so i don't mind them. I have considered getting a tarantula as a pet before, but didn't for the sake of arachnaphobes.

I live in a place where there are two potentially "deadly spiders." The brown recluse, and the black widow. Obviously, these are highly dangerous and all that, but with modern medicine and the fact that these spiders rarely ever bite mammals, the odds of any actual harm befalling a person is unlikely. There was once a spider nest above my bed in the very room I still sleep in now. A hundred baby spiders hung from my ceiling and I felt so guilty for killing them. Honestly, I used to be afraid of spiders, and snakes, and other supposedly dangerous creatures, it's the natural instinct of humans to be cautious of them, but I've done a lot of research on them, and now that I know how to identify the dangerous ones, I have no quarrels with them. If I see some in my house, I usually leave them be for a few days unless they become a problem (I had a pet false widow for about a week in my bathroom. A female, I believe). They kill parasites and real pests.

You should look up jumping spiders with water drop hats. Adorable. I showed them to a friend of mine with horrible arachnophobia, and he agrees that they are adorable. He actually tried to protect a crab spider he found in his house shortly thereafter. They are more precious than people would think.
