Today the UK celebrates its second Ferret Day, an annual event held every May 5th to raise awareness about the domesticated ferret. This mischievous animal has has been working with humans for over 2500 years, and ferret racing is still popular in rural fairs.

The name “ferret” comes from the Latin furittus, meaning “little thief,” probably because the animal is known to steal small objects; today, trained ferrets are used to lead wires and cables in confined spaces.
