I’m Kat, and I run Swell & Stone, an adventure wedding photography business. I’ve been an “adventure photographer” since 2009, but in the last few years I’ve decided to add adventure weddings into the mix. What is an adventure wedding, you might ask?! Well, it means eloping in the outdoors in whatever way feels like an adventure to you. Some people bring their families and some close friends along. Others make it just the two of them. The day usually involves hiking and exploring a place they love or a place they’ve always wanted to explore. And sometimes they have their first dance out underneath the starry night sky. Those are some of the photos you see below.
I create these unique wedding images by positioning the couple in the right spot. Then I have them hold still for a photo or two. After that they can move and re-join the party or head out, but I stay and let my camera shoot for anywhere from 30 minutes to a couple hours. When I feel the scene has been effectively time-lapsed I stop the camera and I also head out. Later in post production I am able to stitch the images together to create what you see here.
