According to Tim Antoniuk, an Associate Professor of Design Studies at the University of Alberta, we can all intuitively sense what good design is and isn't.

"Quite often, this relates to ergonomics and the usability or functionality of the products and services and systems," he told Bored Panda in one interview.

For Antoniuk, good design is "intuitive, [...] deeply sympathetic and empathetic to the user at all levels, and at some level, it is emotional."

So as much as we at Bored Panda like to make fun of crappy design, this time we decided to compile a different kind of list. Whether it's a space-saving Tetris cat tower or a skatepark shaped like bacon and eggs, continue scrolling and check out these prime examples of human ingenuity.

I make more then $12,000 a month online. It’s enough to comfortably replace my old jobs income, especially considering I only work about 11 to 12 hours a week from home. I was amazed how easy it was after I tried it…GOOD LUCK..===))> 𝐖𝐰𝐰.𝐖𝐨𝐫𝐤𝐢𝐛𝐚𝐫.𝐂𝐨𝐦

I bought these for my Japanese friends and they were obsessed. They only put a little bit of sauce in the dish here in Japan, compared to the West, so it works out really well because you need to pour very little to generate the effect.

Back in the late 1970s, Dieter Rams, a German industrial designer, was becoming increasingly concerned by the state of the world around him. He called it "an impenetrable confusion of forms, colors, and noises."

Realizing that he was a significant contributor to that world, Rams asked himself an important question: is my design good design?

His answer is expressed in his ten principles for good design.

    1. Good design is innovative. Technological development is constantly offering new opportunities for innovative design; innovative design always develops in tandem with innovative technology, and can never be an end in itself.

    2. Good design makes a product useful. People buy products to use them. It has to satisfy certain criteria, it has to emphasize the usefulness of a product whilst disregarding things that could lessen it.

    3. Good design is aesthetic. The beauty of a product is integral to its usefulness because the products we use every day affect us and our well-being. A product can't be well-executed if it is not beautiful.

    4. Good design makes a product understandable; it clarifies the product's structure. Better still, it can make the product "talk." If a product is designed flawlessly, it is pretty much self-explanatory.

    5. Good design is unobtrusive. Products fulfill a purpose. They're like tools. They are neither decorative objects nor works of art. Their design should therefore be both neutral and restrained, leaving room for the user's self-expression.

    6. Good design is honest. It does not try to manipulate the consumer; it doesn't promise what it can't deliver.

    7. Good design is long-lasting. It avoids fashion trends so therefore it never appears like an antique from the middle ages. Unlike fashionable design, good design lasts many years – even in today's fast-paced world.

    9. Good design is environmentally friendly. It conserves resources and minimizes physical and visual pollution throughout the lifecycle of the product.

    10. Good design is as little design as possible. You've heard it a thousand times, less is better. As cliché as it sounds, Dieter Rams believes it to be true. Good design concentrates on the essentials and does not place unnecessary burdens on the product.

Great, now they just need to change the proportions of the dolls to make them look like real women. Otherwise its just a doll with vitiligo and without organs again.

It only has one "hand" - so it indicates full hours and intervals of 15 min. in between.

Shaming or scaring people addicted to cigarettes doesn't work as a strategy to help them quit. Positive, encouraging, accessible options for cessation and an emotional support system are what it takes for a suffering human being to break an addiction. This illustration is disgusting, but also not effective except to reinforce judgement and negative feedback, especially from smokers about themselves, which can perpetuate the cycle of addiction.

    •LeXi•
    Community Member

This doesn't really help an addict of cig smokers really. It can help them visually see what it can do for sure. But remember, lungs can regenerate and can heal if you do quit. Encouragement and helping someone quit is the best remedy to quit. Doing stuff like this, just irritates the addict and they won't even second guess of continuing to smoke. Just sayin...

No. Sadly. Got a relative with emphysema from smoking and vaping. Every time we talk on the phone I hear her sucking on that vape pipe. It'll kill her but "quitting is too hard." I guess dying is easier.

Good. Now we need the same 'healthy messages' on every product that has too much sugar in it. Put some obesitas on ur McDo burgers, heart attacks on meats and salt and butters, Decaying tooth on coca colas and other sodas and juices. just for starting.

You mean "These bollards shaped like pencils outside a school" -(I'm really sorry, I can't help myself, and I can't get the image of a pencils shaped school out of my mind).

This is really common in the UK. We also have bollards shaped like children which is supposed to make you think and slow down.

I’ve not seen these, just those weird little kid bollards that make you think a child is about to throw itself into the road.

I don't understand this. The Fibonacci sequence doesn't have these numbers. It goes 0,1,1,2,3,5,8,13,21, and so on. Each successive number is the sum of the previous 2. Is there another Fibonacci? Or am I missing something?

Think of the shape of the spiral rather than the numbers. That is the shape utilised for the hour hand.

I have one of these in a more brassy color, they're quite common embroidery scissors nowadays! Very cute. (AFAIK they were based on the clamps midwives in the 19th century usually had in their kits, and they were used to stop the bloodflow to the umbilical cord. They're shaped like storks because of that association between storks and childbirth. Tbh I prefer to see them as a crane, personally.)

So everyone in your office needed a brain scan? Maybe the office should be checked for toxicity? OR everyone is getting a free scan for the fun of it, in which case......wow....that is a pretty expensive "fun" to do. Brains scans cost how much?? People get in trouble just for copying their hands (or whatever) on the office photocopier ffs. Maybe this place should offer free scans to all the people that unfortunately really need them. (don't know why this bothered me so much, I'm going to shut up now)

Uh, well ... roots, yeah, but nothing more. A few design resemblances, that's all - drive a Mini and a MINI and compare for yourself - the slower, more dangerous old one is unique, the modern ones are just some compact size vehicle with severe overweight. Not bad for what it is, but devastating for what it is advertised as.Nothing Mini'ish whatsoever.

Kind of yes, kind of no. They made them as a *tribute* to Pride Month with this message on the back of the bag: “During Pride, only one rainbow matters. So we’ve given up ours to show support.”

I've heard that circular playing cards are common in India. However this is only something I've read, so I could be wrong. Any Indian readers able to confirm or deny?

Just like with a D6, the number that ends up on top is the result of the roll. I don't remember if it rolled away a lot from my old dungeon master, but it's more common to use 2xD10 for percentage rolls in my experience.

You'll find that very high end designers make "anti-pap" scarfs that light up really bright when a camera flashes them, basically ruining the photo. They make these so celebrities can wear them to avoid paparazzi's.

Im not sure this is more eco friendly... It contains painting, some kind of also plastic cover (or layer) inside and outside that keeps the water away from paper, otherwise the box would not last too long, some glue, and plus the pastic opener.. the idea is good, but I think (and this is just an opinion) the overall production is less eco friendly.

Why do all of our paper cartons have plastic caps on them these days? It never used to be like this. We used to just open up the carton from one of the sides and drink straight out of it.
