While I understand your point of view, I agree with Daria B. Mrs Chattopadhyay is well educated and she knew what she was doing. And about imposing their lifestyle - well, I agree that if two cultures meet, they always impact each other. However, there IS difference between observation and impacting your lifestyle. If we did not interact with other tribes, we would never know anything about them. If I understand correctly, she restricted any invasive actions to minimum - she was rather watching and trying to understand. Maybe she affected them somehow - but her influence was minimal. And we know so much more, thanks to her.

She knew what she was doing and how. She came there because she was in love with these kinds if cultures, not to try and change them. Please, read more carefully and don't pretend you know better than somebody who studied the given subject for her entire life and earned her degrees.

This is really, just...stunning! Great story-telling with superb pictures. I have never had any interesting in insects before. And I had no idea that any insect cared for their young at all. This is definitely in one of my top 5 favorite BoredPanda posts ever. I wish I could like this 100 times.

These pictures are great. I don't remember ever seeing those, but they look like ornate cicadas. Beautiful insects. Do their mating calls sound similar to the ones that cicadas make?

Oak treehoppers have a mating call, but it's nearly undetectable to humans. These insects are much smaller than cicadas, but they do look very similar - both are true bugs!

I live in Wooster, Ohio.

Hehe, I think more like brother/sister, but I'm not convinced that matters in the insect world!

I Spent All Summer Photographing The Diversity Of Bugs In My Hometown

I use a Canon 70D, a 40mm pancake or 24mm pancake lens, and a Vello Macrofier reverse adaptor. I also use my camera's built-in flash (it's good for something after all!) and a Graslon spark flash diffuser. It's a fairly inexpensive set (compared to dedicated macro lenses) and the results are awesome!

If you ever get the time, check out my blog chasingbugs.com. It's not the best, but I try to write about my inexpensive macro techniques. I'm a firm believer that macro photographer can be accessible to anyone with a passion for the subject! My personal favorite technique is the reverse lens technique!

Hi there! I'm a hobbyist photographer. I work as an Educational Technology Specialist for OSU as my day job. I've been photographing nature since I was a young girl, but I started focusing on macro insect and spider photography about 8 or 9 years ago. I've taught some local macro photography workshops here in NE Ohio and I'm always looking for additional opportunities to teach and share my techniques. I've explored numerous macro photography techniques and my favorite is the reverse lens technique. I use a Canon 70D with either a 40mm pancake lens or 24mm pancake lens and a Vello Macrofier reverse adaptor (the wider the angle lens, the more magnification you'll get when you mount the lens backwards on your camera). I also use my camera's built-in flash with a Graslon Spark flash diffuser.
