Vilnius Airport Puts A Christmas Tree Made Of Confiscated Items To Highlight The Importance Of Aviation Security
94Kviews
Here at Lithuanian Airports, we are certain that you have seen many different Christmas trees: natural, modern, innovative, and simply quirky. However, we can guarantee – you’ve never seen anything like this one.
With the winter travel season well underway, the Aviation security officers at Vilnius Airport opted for an unusual take on the classic Christmas tree, aiming to send an educational message on the importance of aviation security. Using items that are prohibited to carry in hand luggage and which were taken away from passengers during screening, the lads at the Aviation security unit of Lithuania’s main airport created a truly unique educational masterpiece.
Knives, scissors, lighters, blades, and all sorts of other dangerous goods – this Christmas tree has them all. So if you don’t want your personal, yet prohibited, belonging to land on our next year’s Christmas tree – better check out the baggage requirements before you pack for your next flight.
Take a a closer look – now you will remember what not to take on the plane!

coooooool. but why dont they have water bottles on it?
Also, the snow globe they took from me.
Pretty sure this is items you're not allowed, but not many were actually confiscated. What are the odds of that many identical cheese knives or hundreds of scissors so alike?
you're not allowed to take liquids through security, in most airports, unless they're under 100ml. So, unless you're willing to drink the entire bottle of water in one hit, and put up with the people behind you getting annoyed, most people just hand over their bottle.
Pseudo Puppy, right. The tree is made up of things that aren't allowed to go through security.
The only real and informative answer was downvoted. Oh, my... Trolls are at it again. Anyway, yes. That's correct. So, whoever downvoted you needs to take notes if they plan on travelling by plane someday.
I would hope that they chose to recycle them literally instead of as ornaments on this tree that will eventually get thrown away lol
Why are so many people transporting scissors??
I think these Christmas trees are made from purchased scissors to prove a point (no pun intended). They all look the same and have green handles. Also, I've had scissors in my backpack and forgot about them - a few times. So yes, I've had to hand them over at TSA. I'm an artist and scissors are very useful on a daily basis, so they're with me all the time... Now, my packing list includes items to uNpAcK before I get started.
When you look closely, most of the scissors have different finger hole size, blade length, and middle screw size. Though they look like they've been all spray painted green and silver, probably to get the effect of a Christmas tree. What I'm wondering is why so many cheese knives! A set maybe?
I used to work in a cheese shop that mainly sold to tourists, and the amount of cheese knives I sold was unbelievable. I did always tell people not to put them in their hand luggage, but you know how well people listen.
I work at airport security. You cannot imagine how many scissors are confiscated and thrown out by us. So the airport staff only used the ones, which used to belong to passengers. And the scissors and cheeseknives are sprayed with paint if you take a closer look.
Green PlastiDip is what you're looking for.
They're painted. You can clearly see in the last photo and also, scissors don't have green blades.
I agree with Lara, a lot of them look very different. Totally get how a few might end up accidentally going through but this is a lot! Lol Lara, same thought about the cheese knives, too haha
Yes officer I have a knife.. no no officer.. no it’s a cheese knife.. whadda mean I can’t take it with me!?
