25 Guys Are Sharing The Exact Moment They Decided To Be Gay, And It’s Irony At Its Purest

Believe it or not, some people still believe that homosexuality is a choice. They somehow deny the possible genetic, hormonal, developmental, social and cultural influences that come into play when developing one’s sexual orientation, and reduce it to mere thought. To illustrate the absurdity of this claim, Twitter user Simon H has decided to ‘share’ the exact moment he decided to become gay.

The tweet resonated with other homosexuals on the social network and they quickly joined the fun

Research over the last several decades has demonstrated that sexual orientation ranges along a continuum, from exclusive attraction to the other sex to exclusive attraction to the same sex. However, sexual orientation is usually discussed in terms of three categories: heterosexual, gay/lesbian and bisexual. This range of behaviors and attractions has been described in various cultures and nations throughout the world and many cultures use identity labels to describe people who express these attractions. In the United States the most frequent labels are lesbians, gay men, and bisexual people. However, some people may use different labels or none at all.

According to the American Psychological Association, sexual orientation is commonly discussed as if it were solely a characteristic of an individual, like biological sex, gender identity or age. “This perspective is incomplete because sexual orientation is defined in terms of relationships with others,” they write on their website. “People express their sexual orientation through behaviors with others, including such simple actions as holding hands or kissing. Thus, sexual orientation is closely tied to the intimate personal relationships that meet deeply felt needs for love, attachment, and intimacy. In addition to sexual behaviors, these bonds include nonsexual physical affection between partners, shared goals and values, mutual support, and ongoing commitment. Therefore, sexual orientation is not merely a personal characteristic within an individual. Rather, one’s sexual orientation defines the group of people in which one is likely to find satisfying and fulfilling romantic relationships that are an essential component of personal identity for many people.”

Interestingly, there is still no consensus among scientists about the exact reasons that an individual develops a heterosexual, bisexual, gay or lesbian orientation. “Although much research has examined the possible genetic, hormonal, developmental, social and cultural influences on sexual orientation, no findings have emerged that permit scientists to conclude that sexual orientation is determined by any particular factor or factors. Many think that nature and nurture both play complex roles; most people experience little or no sense of choice about their sexual orientation.”

Also, it’s important to remember that research has found no inherent association between any of these sexual orientations and psychopathology. Both heterosexual behavior and homosexual behavior are absolutely normal aspects of human sexuality. “Both have been documented in many different cultures and historical eras. Despite the persistence of stereotypes that portray lesbian, gay and bisexual people as disturbed, several decades of research and clinical experience have led all mainstream medical and mental health organizations in this country to conclude that these orientations represent normal forms of human experience. Lesbian, gay and bisexual relationships are normal forms of human bonding. Therefore, these mainstream organizations long ago abandoned classifications of homosexuality as a mental disorder.”

Ever wonder if the people that think it is a choice or a lifestyle think this way because they themselves are closeted homosexuals and have "chosen" to live a heterosexual "lifestyle" because of their own prejudices....scary but it kind of makes sense in a twisted way. If they chose then so did the rest of us.
Yep, I think you're definitely onto something there!
I remeber i was homophobic because i was fucking scared of myself, but when i finally exepted who i was i was at peace
EmoExtremo, I think the word you're looking for is "accepted". I mean no offense, but it seems that English is not your native language, so I'll take the chance and help you rather than put you down like a grammar snob would. Excepted means to separate from the group, while accepted is to say, "This is who I am." I hope that I have explained it well enough for you.

Almost every time I read an article about a politician toe tapping the stall next door in the bathroom, or hiring muscular young men to help with their luggage or are just so goddamn spiteful about something that doesn't effect them, I know it's some conservative who's been campaigning hard to do away with LGBTQ rights. It's almost like they go overboard to prove how non-homosexual people would act in any such case, therefore they just can't be gay (Mike Pence, I'm talking to you).
Always look at the things people are fighting most for a view of who they really are. It's projection for sure
Absolutely. That's also why they think it's a choice to be gay and gay people are just choosing to sin - because THEY are choosing to try to NOT be gay.
Wow. That's a great explanation. Though it could be that some straight people think everyone is born straight and some choose to become gay. Still, what you said is a good hypothesis.
Oh...You mean like Larry Craig? Those creatures haunting anything "men only" but who's main penchant is the old "standby" (pun intended); the airport bathroom.

The fact that there are queer people existing in countries where it's punishable by death is proof enough that being queer isn't a choice
your sentence says it all
Queer? I thought that meant strange. Nothing strange about being homosexual or heterosexual or anything in between. Most animal populations have individuals with more than just heterosexuality. I'm sure I read recently of a zoo in Russia blaming homosexual men for corrupting their male lions, after the make lions were seen mating. Nuf said.
Queer is an umbrella term for all the non-straight sexualities, so gay, bi, pan etc
It did originally mean strange. A long time ago it started getting used as a an insult to LGBTQ+ people, but later LGBTQ+ people reclaimed the word. Nowadays it's pretty much accepted as an umbrella term for everyone who is not straight or not cisgender, although there are definitely still LGBTQ+ people that view the word as an insult. And you're right, there's plenty of homosexuality and bisexuality in animals.
The term "queer" is often used in the LGBQT+ community, usually as a term for either being gay or for beginning to question your sexuality. (Sorry if I got this wrong! 💛)
Exactly
Conservative Christians always think that gay is a choice and that, if you treat them badly enough, a gay person will voluntarily go back to being straight again. This is my philosophy..you can't help who you fall in love with. And when it comes down to it..if you are strict enough of a Christian to believe that being gay is a sin, then you should also be a strict enough Christian to realize no one else has the right to judge another persons life except God, Himself. Funny how these so called Christians will commit one sin to call out their perceived view of another. Hypocrites.
Love this post. I'm a Christian, big believer in God. And couldn't agree with you more. Find it hard to believe that God would hate people for being in love and wanting to care for each other. He has bigger issues to worry about. I had to leave the church I attended because I was getting so angry with the hypocrisy. You're meant to love thy neighbor as you love yourself.
Love U think that way Tracy.
I'm a firm believer that the bare bones of the Bible are true and that the parts that say you can't wear this or you can't hang out with them have been added by people that re-wrote the Bible to fit their own agendas. Let's not forget that the Gutenberg Bible was not available until 1455, and even then, many people were unable to read. They had to rely on what was told to them by the church. A church that was so bent on turning a profit that they created holidays to lure Pagans to the faith and they pre-sold absolutions to sins that were yet to be committed. I would like to see early Christian writings before it passed through all of those hands. I think many would be surprised at what is and isn't in the original scriptures.
@ Master Markus - Actually, no one knows when that was added to the Bible. When the Roman Empire was in control, they encouraged gay relationships amongst soldiers because they felt that, if you loved the person next to you, in battle...you would fight harder. It is also why the Roman Empire made it illegal for soldiers to marry women. Their tactics gave strength to Christianity because the churches would marry soldiers in secret to their girlfriends. One such famous Christian did this so well, that when he was eventually caught and jailed...the people whose lives he touched sent him messages tied to rocks through his cell window. That priest was named Valentine. I suspect that, when the Roman Empire fell, the passage of gay being a sin was added to the Bible, perhaps in defiance of the leadership that targeted and killed Christians by the thousands. As seen today, politics and religion have a tendency to co-mingle. If it happens today, it probably also did so back then.
Thank you.
Well, the Bible DOES tell you to kill guys if they fuck each other in Leviticus. A problem with the Bible besides being historically and scientifically inaccurate is that it repeatedly contradicts itself due to being a collection of stories written over hundreds of years. In a lot of the older stuff, Yahweh is clearly a warlike god (and in fact, is shaking off the polytheism that predicated Judaism), but he got "chilled out" as the Jewish society became more "progressive".
Yes, and the bible is very concerned with wealth--as in, you cannot be wealthy and get into heaven. Conservative Christians behave as if wealth is a god-given duty.
Conservative Christians pick stuff from the bible that suit them, but ignore the things that would require for them to change their lives
Agreed Kaisu. Like Kim Davis..the county clerk that refused to issue marriage licenses for gay couples saying it went against her conservative Christian beliefs...this coming from a woman that was divorced 4 times...something that the Bible also says is a no-no. vegan-prot...912f21.jpg
Purely as a side note....in old literature from the USA from pre-1920s, you sometimes read a character talking about falling in love with or being in love with someone where there is no sexual element. I always found that interesting....We equate love of that level outside of family as only occurring with a romantic partner. This is purely a tangent. Just thinking out loud.
"Love thy neighbour as thyself" the Bible says., "Unless he/she is gay" the christians read.
I carpool and my friend who does with me is strictly christian and whenever we talk about it she always says it is a sin and that she doesn't support it, me being an atheist thinks that the whole message of the bible is love and happiness so why would you condemn someone for loving who they want. It just doesn't make that much sense
Hate those types of Christians. To the point where I don’t even wanna be call a Christian. I just say I believe in Love.
Wow I honestly never thought of that. I'm using that next time.
