I Photograph The Innocent Moments Of Children With Animals (30 Pics)
I'm an international award-winning children’s portrait photographer in Beaver, West Virginia with eight years of experience in the field. I'm also a mom of four who loves animals.
I have a deep love for animals. There is something magical about the connection between children and animals, so I focus on capturing the innocence of the bond between them. Each image highlights this bond with a vivid, yet almost fairytale-like feel that's both fun and creative.
I am inspired by paintings, color, light, and my kids. I put a lot of work into every detail in my image—from the wardrobe and location to hairstyles. There is so much that creates the perfect image; even the tiniest detail can change a photo from good to amazing.
I shoot with a Nikon D750 and use a 35mm sigma art or 85mm 1.4 Nikon lens. I prefer to shoot mainly outdoors and love to find new locations with pretty light.

I truly believe that if we can teach children how to respect, love and take care of animals we would have a much happier world! There's still hope!
Holy cow I don't think you can get any more adorable than this! Beautiful little "kids!"
Please teach the child to support the kitten's bottom. It can damage them to be held around the middle like that.
So many "people" let their children not only handle pets incorrectly, they let them abuse pets, and I'm sure it will come to them - these children will grow up to be disrespectful, hardhearted, and even violet not only to animals but consequently to people, including their parents.
Load More Replies...the picture looks clean and crisp, and the coloration of the Goat's fur adds to this. lovely photo.
this is exactly what I said when I had the first glimpse at the picture! lmao
Load More Replies...The children's skin tones in all your pictures are just gorgeous!
She looks like a live Mabel Lucie Atwell character. https://www.mabellucieattwell.co.uk/when-folks-arent-as-nice-mabel-lucie-attwell-postcard/
Gorgeous photograph- there is a lot of love in the yes of that kitty.
"What do you mean, 'what am I doing'? I'm teaching ducky to swim!"
Nothing else in the world matters but us! I love the contrast of the kitten whiskers and the boy's gorgeous eyelashes.
I used to do this with our cat when I was little too—-and I’m 59 now! Only difference is I also had our best friend St Bernard dog following us both around. We were a tightly bonded trio.
When my daughter was 2 my Siamese cat let her putt him in a toy buggy like this one. She'd cover him with a little blanket and sometimes a baby bonnet. His front paws would be showing and the look on his face was priceless...a serious "I'm only putting up with this for the baby".
I tried to get my Cat into a Barbie Doll Case. You should have seen the stinky mess, paint right off the floor ! Poor Kitty !
Excellent, Andrea, did you have, your children,on another post in the past ? if you did, I recall the wonderful shots, and you stated, you made all your children;s clothes, I am curious, these shots are amazing, beautiful children !!!
For added comfort let the kitty sit in your hand while you support him.
the child is a CHILD. It doesn't matter... He wouldn't know better.
Load More Replies...Excellent, I love this shot, it is so natural, that sweet boy, has had some fun !!!
Rats make the best pets! Clean and smart, and very personable. That little guy looks a lot like a rat I had in college named Dave.
I have 3 rats! Their names are George, Harry Lloyd, and Vigo.
Load More Replies...I love how photos like this change people's opinions about rats. Many people still see only their awful and inaccurate stereotype but more and more realize what amazing and wonderful rats are every day.
Also contrary to popular belief rats are NOT dirty they are actually a very clean critter.
Load More Replies...I just love the fact that she doesn't freak out and neither does the rat
So glad you included a hedgehog. They are so adorable and she is cute too.
vow! beautiful. this is the first time I'm seeing this pet with a child.
A Hedgehog I would really like to have one. But I always wonder if it's fair to the critter. Wonder where all of these creatures come from?
it's so adorable, magical, and beautiful at the same time <3
I just love the way your pictures show a little girl being so gentle with creatures great and small and those creatures showing trust with a gentleness of their own. Your photography shows so much beauty and love with an incredible understanding of your craft. Thank you for sharing. :)
Are you related to this photographer? I see comments throughout this thread.
Load More Replies...Geesh. I know you love me, just ease up a bit. "But hugging you makes me so happy."
When I was about 3 my older sister, who hated that I was born, took my few toys, my blanket and dolls and put them in her little suitcase, walked to the end of the street where there was a deep ditch, and threw it in. There went all my toys! Mom never bought me another toy as they were broke, and I was the disposable child. Not the son daddy wanted so a failure from birth. Grandmother sent mom money to have my portrait done a few weeks later for my birthday, as I was named after her. I had ear infections and had been whiney for a few days, but Mom bundled me into the car and drove me to the photography studio. To my delight, the man handed me a stuffed black scotty dog! I was thrilled and he got the best photos of me with my white blond hair in soft baby curls, and my little white shoes. But then he wanted the doggy back, and I cried for hours all the way home and after. This picture reminds me of that, with a real puppy!
Cute picture and subjects. Just wondering why so many people have their babies' ears pierced - better to leave it til they're older and can make their own decisions about such things, I would have thought...
What beautiful shots n moments. No one would deny it it. But I am shock an international award winning photographer views and is of the opinion ONLY children of ONE color can gave beautiful memories with animals. Does this world consist INLYcwith children of one color. Children are innocents souls.lets leave them alone. I am shocked that such pictures are admired and no-one had the sense to see that only one color was represented here. This world celebrates DIVERSITY , multi languages, religion, color and creed. Social media is accessed by EVERYONE around the globe. All I can say is SHAME ON YOU to EVERYONE involved in this photography and beyond.
I do sessions of kids of all color. Most of these are of my own kids because I don’t have everyone’s permission to share their images on social media. International doesn’t mean I travel I internationally it means I’ve been awarded through photography organizations that are open world wide. Thanks for your observation. But one article doesn’t show much at all so If be careful not to base my judgment so quickly.
Load More Replies...Well, actually it's a baby sheep. But hey, who cares? They look adorable together.
Load More Replies...Nope not a goat it's a lamb goats even young ones have horns or the horn bumps that will eventually be horns
Load More Replies...I do believe that's a lamb not a goat. Goats have horns
Load More Replies...Cat being carried is like put me down and pick him/her up =D
Load More Replies...I hope these kids were coached on how to pick the animals up in a way that was comfortable :)
Great shot, the cats look natural, they are not always pleased !!!
If you do not have anything nice to say...don't say anything at all.
Cat in his arms: I shouldn't have took that catnip in exchange for this. I wanna walk!!!! Cat on the floor: I'm so mad! I wanna be picked up!
Children strangling animals aren't cute. They shouldn't pick them up if they don't know how to do it properly.
Every dog should have a kid, and every kid should have a dog. Or cat. Or any kind of pet. I don’t understand parents who won’t have animals in their family’s home—-extreme allergies or other prohibitive conditions aside.
When I was 3-6 my parents lied about having allergies, now I know it was all the work and responsibilities, me being a gamer I wish I was less of a gamer
Load More Replies...Love your title. I too love Dragons. I have a wonderful collection of them as well as Wizards and Castles. I have a question though. What does "&It;3" mean?
Load More Replies...Little goat is tasting her dress... guess he hasn't discovered the flowers yet! Love it! <3
A great shot, the children, must spend much time with the animals, it looks natural !!!
Great shot, children are fortunate, surrounded with animals !!!
Yes, chickens are intelligent, adorable sentient creatures too.
Load More Replies...ALL those pictures are precious and sweet. Thank You! for sharing. Have a GREAT Day!
I love all these pictures and the clothes you have the children wear makes it all the more precious.
Andrea Martin you are an outstanding photographer. The eye of a true artist.
Everyone needs a Duck so that every time You see the duck you can say, "Hello ducky".
So glad to see she’s holding the cat properly! Parents, please teach your children things like this, and be sure your children are careful and gentle around animals. It instills in them the virtues of kindness and respect for living things.
Excellent shot, a young child, she holds the kitten, with love !!!
A little delusional on this one sharron she looks like - do I really have to do this now!? I just want to go play. The kitten though seems to be quite content.
Load More Replies...If they are taught how to properly hold the kitten this picture would have been a masterpiece. Not harping just informing.
IS THAT A KANGAROO? YOU CAN HAVE THEM AS PETS? i have never seen a pet kangaroo
It is ! They are legal In some states. This one was in its was to a wildlife reserve.
Load More Replies...Ok so I'm a one eyed pirate now. But I gets a cheezburger for it later.
hahahahaha/ cats make kids happy with their simple presence//// PRESENCE
Load More Replies...Beautiful shot....but I prefer lil ones.... basically same age with the children....
Well I just had this idea of a series....kid holding egg....kid witnessing the egg breaking,.... kid gazing at a little puffy puff sticking its tiny head out of the shell...etc etc
The photos are amazing but children and animals have to be supervised. Children have to be taught how to be gentile and not annoy animals or both can be harmed. Adults get careless and too often the animals pay the price. PLEASE teach your children how to interact with animals.
From what I have seen, it is apparent, that the children are taught, and experienced with animals !!!
Load More Replies...Very nice. At the risk of seeming to be a grumpy old woman, please, PLEASE teach the children how to hold a cat. Especially a kitten.A cat has its heart in the middle of the body, so holding it tightly around the middle can seriously damage it. Please don't let your children hold very young cats like that. It quite spoiled what was a lovely set of photos.
Wonderful post, excellent photography, great shots with children and animals, many in nature, was fabulous !!!
I love the innocence of the children and the animals. These are beautiful, heartwarming photos. Thanks for sharing them.
