30 Celebs Who Were Canceled But Didn’t Deserve It, According To People Online
Because it’s hard for celebrities to not be in the public eye sometimes, it’s often the case that we get to see much of what’s happening in their lives—the good, the bad, and the ugly.
Unfortunately, the ugly part often ends in some form of backlash from fans, followers, the general public or the industry itself, with certain celebrities getting “canceled”. But problems are never easy to unwrap and sometimes this “cancellation” is undeserved, or ends up being truly undeserved once it’s all over.
People on Reddit have been discussing celebrities who got canceled, but they couldn’t but feel bad for them and were actually saying how they didn’t deserve to be cancelled at all, or at least not any more, as asked by Reddit user u/Yung-Potter-XO on r/AskReddit.

As a male that was in a relationship with an abusive woman, this whole thing breaks my heart.
I know how hard it can be to come out about, and how hard it is to be believed at all. And then of course, as soon as someone starts to put pressure on the abuser, suddenly all these allegations start coming out about you, and none of them true or accurate, but because she's a woman, she must be the victim right?
If my ex was upset about something, she'd rub the cat on my pillow (I'm allergic) so I'd be up all night coughing and wheezing. Then she'd s@#t on me for staying up late. Then give me s@#t for sleeping in the next day.
My ex used to punch me in the face while I was sleeping. She couldn't stand my snoring. I'd go to work in the mornings with a black eye. If she fell asleep first, it was ok, but she was always up late, so I'd have to go sleep on the couch. But she'd insist on staying up late and watching TV, so I couldn't sleep on the couch. I fell asleep on the bathroom floor once out of sheer exhaustion.

JD has been through a lot. But he is too strong to pulled down by that stupid bitch amber. I really want to know the ffuckk she was actually thinking when she started with all these accusations on him.
Not completely gone, but Terry Crews has issues getting work because he spoke out about being sexually assaulted during the me too movent. People assumed a man his stature couldn't be assaulted and he gave names and people weren't very happy.
Monica Lewinsky. Judging from her Twitter account, she seems like a lovely person.
It's a shame. Dave Chappelle said it best. 'Who hasn't sucked a d#$k they regretted?' and Bill was a charismatic dude too. Lots of people get into relationships with authority figures during lapses in judgement, but Monica has been the butt of a joke because of it for two decades because of her lapse in judgement.

The problem here is that Bill Clinton didn't get so much hate!! All the hate was mostly for her and still is until now! Kind of a unique case but: Laura Dern.
When Laura Dern played Ellen’s girlfriend on the episode where she came out, she was blacklisted by the industry for nearly a decade. And some people would harass her to the point she needed protection in public.
She says her manager warned her she wouldn’t get roles if she agreed to take the part on Ellen but did so anyways. She went from Jurassic Park and being in demand to nobody giving her a call.
Obviously she’s recovered but we lost a decade of great Laura Dern performances because of studios perception that she was cancelled by public opinion for playing a gay role.
Britney Spears when she shaved her head and all that. I'm no fan of hers but she just seemed like someone who cracked under all the pressure and lost her s#@t. Craig Ferguson did an absolutely amazing job talking about that and relating it to his own life. Major respect to him for that. Kind of long but worth watching.
I dont know if he was "cancelled" but Hollywood did Brendan Fraser dirty. Glad to see him working again. I hear doom patrols good.

Spoke out against corruption and pedophilia in the catholic church very blatantly in a SNL act. Was completely removed from anything in the entertainment industry. Turns out instead of moral outrage people should have listened. I've seen in somewhat recent interviews that she is somewhat well adjusted despite it all. She knew it was going to cross a line when she did it, but she believes it pushed any investigation into such things forward and possibly gave people courage to speak up.
Elizabeth Olsen. Her co-worker died and she didn't post to social media immediately as it was happening. So people bullied her off of her Social Media accounts.
YOU KNOW WHO YOU ARE. If you were part of that mess, you don't deserve to watch WandaVision or Doctor Strange 2
Ashley Judd. Harvey Weinstein blacklisted her for years. She’s an incredible actress IMO.
Janet Jackson after Nipplegate was a travesty in how she was treated like a pariah afterwards. (I know, timing with Timberlake's apology and all).
Just want to throw in here that I really don't care whether it was planned or not, I'm talking purely the reaction, which was incredibly stupid.
Mira Sorvino. She went from one of the most in-demand actresses after winning her Oscar, to being completely blacklisted because Weinstein was telling anyone who'd listen that she was a diva and impossible to work with.
When Peter Jackson was still making LotR through Miramax, Weinstein told him not to hire Judd or Sorvino, and Jackson believed him. Even when the movies eventually moved to New Line Cinema, he still believed what Weinstein had told him, and wouldn't work with them.
When #MeToo started snowballing, Jackson remembered what Weinstein had told him about the two and apologized to them for it.
Dixie Chicks. This one still infuriates me, how come they got banned from country music stations but Hank Williams Jr. didn't after all that racist garbage he spewed about president Obama, I still listen to classic country but people and the stations are hypocrites.
Yeah this one was infuriating. They rightfully criticized a sitting president. Country music fans at the time were incredibly stupid.

I think Wynona Rider got cancelled from the spotlight for a long time (until Stranger Things) for some shoplifting. Sure, its s#$%^y but we’re all human.

When news of the affair broke she lost all her contracts, her husband took her daughter, and the scandal was so intense US senators gave speeches condemning her on the Senate floor.
Because of the fallout she wasn't allowed to see her daughter Pia for seven years, and didn't make a Hollywood movie for seven years as well (She returned in Anastasia).
Corey Feldman. Truly breaks my heart. I had the chance to get to know him when I was a kid in 2000. He was pretty normal then. Because of what the industry did to him he always made sure that i was being taken care of on set and that I was protected from the same monstrosities. I think Haim dying really f#$%@d him up again. I will always be so grateful of how he looked out for me and I hope he gets the help he needs.
Hayden Christensen did nothing wrong. No actor should be maligned for decisions made by the writers and director.
He got cancelled after the mess that was the Star Wars prequel trilogy. It really was awful, but it was not his decision to have a monologue about sand.
It’s more than that, and still not his fault. There was a lot of bad editing choices made by Lucas that made his acting look horribly wooden. Those movies had a great cast, and the end result was not great. And most of that can be attributed to Lucas.

Just because he got lucky and got the Anikin role doesn't mean that he is guaranteed future roles. He's not a very good actor and there is lots of competition out there.

Acting is a rough business and an actor's career can rise or fall because of factors beyond their control, like George Lucas being the worst actor's director ever. Christiansen isn't the only one to give it up and find something better to do with his life.
Honestly, he's just not a great actor. SW aside, he's kind of wooden and not expressive.
I think he kind of got the short end of the stick. Anakin was not made to be a likable character. Neither was Luke...and notice how Mark Hamill's career never really took off either.
Part of that was because Mark had a catastrophic accident that changed his face. and his voice acting career did take off. Best damned Joker out there.

He was amazing in “Life as a House”, with Kevin Kline. I highly recommend that movie, if you haven’t yet seen it.
Hayden maybe didn't have proper guidance in Star Wars. I mean, his acting was great in Life as a House. But in SW...yikes
I think they just failed to get him properly in to the role; Hayden was for example a brilliant actor in Life as a House. But in Star Wars he was just...meh
i've seen him do a great job in some movies but he's still called a bad actor because of the horrible dialogue in the prequels, hopefully the Kenobi series will allow him to show his actual acting range.
I still think he did good as Anakin despite the scripts' issues. Attack of the Clones is my least-favorite of the eleven live-action films (still enjoy it, though, with an eight out of ten), but for the most part I thought his performance was good…besides the whole monologue about sand, even if I do understand what they were going for.
One of the few reasons I want to watch new SW episodes and shows is to have Hayden in them. He needs redemption as an actor
Liam Neeson. The man isn’t just an incredible actor he’s an amazing human being who gives selflessly and asks for nothing. But because he admitted to having a racially violent thought way back when, when he was much younger and much more naive, a thought he literally said he was ashamed he’d ever had in the first place, the piece of s#$t journalist interviewing him twisted the narrative to make Liam look like a racist just to make a name for himself.
It wasn't just a thought he actually went out with a weapon to find a black man .More than once. But also dumb ass for talking about it publicly.
Megan Fox deserved better than the way media constantly sexualised her and ignored anything she had to say. She has numerous interviews trying to talk about being uncomfortably sexualised by Michael Bay when she was a teenager but the audience and interviewer would just cheer as if she wasn’t talking about predatory behaviour. Megan Fox is so smart and eloquent NOT the bimbo Hollywood would have you believe.
Correct me if I'm wrong. I but I remember reading Megan Fox was cancelled due to her calling Michael Bay ‘Hitler.’ I believe Steven Spielberg fired from the Transformers franchise and then she was blacklisted.
Rebecca Black. Everyone was so mean over Friday. She was THIRTEEN and deserved better.
If you actually listen to her recent stuff, she's actually pretty damn good. Her most recent single "worth it for the feeling" would have millions of views if it was ariana grande. It's fair to say she's pretty underrated.
Hana Kimura. She was an Indonesian-Japanese wrestler who often played the heel, and she wanted to be an actress. When she was offered a chance to be in the reality show Terrace House, she jumped at it.
As we all know, reality shows are scripted. In a scene, Hana (remember, a professional wrestler on a reality show) "slapped" removed another contestant's hat1 and scolded him. Her twitter and instagram accounts were overrun with awful comments, racist criticisms, and death threats for weeks, but over time it tapered off.
Part of a reality show producer's job is to know how the audience thinks of all of the stars. The company monitors media coverage and social media trends. They knew.
But right after quarantine started in Japan, they re-aired the episode.
Hana lived alone. When the abuse began again, it must have seemed endless. She apologized on social media, took her kitten to the Stardom Wrestling office, and went home to [take her own life].
She was 22.
Somebody should be punished for that. People who took these decisions should be told that they did wrong and failed their position of trust and knowledge. But as always, nothing happens, case closed, 90% people watching reality shows are still not correctly made aware that it's scripted or staged. And there's no limit of what human beings can be forced to do to each other...
Not too sure cancelled is the right word for them but Lindsay Lohan. Phenomenal actress and started at a young age. Had really messed up parents, no guidance from anyone and too much money.
Amanda Bynes. If you look into the reality of how creepy and awful Dan Schneider was, it all starts to make sense.
I have no idea what happened to her, but she looked sad. Like she just needed a few good friends or family or something.
Al Franken. Several Democratic Senators told Jane Mayer in 2019 that they regretting forcing Franken to resign without an investigation. (He wanted to appear before the Senate Ethics Committee but he was not allowed).
Ahmed Best played JarJar Binks and nearly killed himself over how hated the character was.
I hated JarJar to the core of my soul. But I am sorry the actor suffered. JarJar is in no way his cross to bear.
As an 80s kid who loved PeeWee’s playhouse, remembering how my parents tried to explain Paul Rubens getting canceled is hilarious. My dad told me “he took off his clothes in a movie theater” and kid me was like “wow that’s really weird but I guess he is kind of crazy?”

Basically people were angry at her old content that she made 10 years ago and while she's already apologized for her actions and addressed how she now understands why it's inappropriate, she felt that her presence on YT was causing more harm and it was too much to keep rehashing the same issue. She still streams with Julian all the time.
I miss Jenna. Grew up as she grew up and her ability to mature and grow helped me do the same.

I will get a lot of downvotes but I would add JK Rowling here. She did say things that weren't the politest and she might have outdated ideas (who doesn't at her age?) and be mistaken. But she was never attacking anybody and she has done a lot for impoverished women and children. Now people talk about her as if she is a monster. You can be mistaken and not be a horrible person.
I worry about this. Society has changed so much in the last twenty years, and unless you spend 24 hrs a day on the internet it’s impossible to keep up. That said, people should learn. Rosie O’Donnell got into trouble after she did an impression of an Asian person. Acceptable in 1980, but clearly racist in 2018. She apologized and learned. Judy Garland is one that should be on here. She was sexually harassed by a bunch of her costars who played the Munchkins in the Wizard of Oz, and by Louis B. Mayer. She was completely traumatized by it, and was told that if she said anything, they would ruin her.
I would really like to know why people keep holding people's actions from a decade, two decades ago to today's standards. (Common 'misbehaviour', not things that would have still been considered law breaking). Unfortunately, ten to twenty years ago certain things were very commonplace and considered acceptable. As long as a person has changed their behaviour as times have changed, why dredge things up and ruin their lives if they live in the public eye? I'm not saying those things should be erased and necessarily 'forgiven' but acknowledged as a product of the times.

Nevertheless, this needs to be said: it is common in H-town to start off like gangbusters in your young 20s and to stop getting work, "being cancelled", by the time you are in your 30s. It is unusual for a woman in her 40s or a man in his 50s to get work even if they started off great 20-30 years before. Sorry folks, but young people buy the majority of the tickets and want to see young people like themselves on the screen, not the older crowd. Only A-list actors like Tom Cruise are the exception. The producers, directors, and financiers are very choosy because they want a successful movie that makes fortunes of money. The biggest thing that has changed in the last 20 years, with half the new young actors outing themselves as unapologetically gay, is that the producers, directors, and financiers have figured out that gay doesn't really sell very well. It really does cost in ticket sales and dollars. Some young actors have ended their own careers early by coming out before they develop an A-list following. Stay closeted, young actors, okay? if you caught what I just said, help out a friend who is just starting out in his/her acting careers by copying and forwarding this to him/her. Some people never figure this out on their own. You may never see some of the young talents again on the big screen in lead roles who did not follow this rule, but starred in these young people's movies or TV series: 1) Hunger Games 2) Teen Wolf 3) 13 Reasons Why 4) Scorch Trials 5) Death Cure 6) Any Disney Musical 7) Any gay teenager TV show.... and by the way, you don't have to openly come out in promotional interviews or late-night TV. If you put up a lot of gay-acting pictures of yourself on Instagram or your FB page, people will automatically assume this truth. If you are mostly discrete, but let it be known you are living together or dating in a long-term relationship that is publicly known, the producers, directors, and financiers will make this assumption. Seriously, don't kill your talented potential career. Stay closeted so you can keep entertaining us and have work/income in your 30s!! It is almost impossible to "in yourself" after you have publically outed yourself. Sorry, but that's just the real world. For a movie to make big money, it has to sell well in middle conservative America, not just in NYC or the far west coast.

It really does cost in ticket sales and dollars. Some young actors have ended their own careers early by coming out before they develop an A-list following. Stay closeted, young actors, okay? if you caught what I just said, help out a friend who is just starting out in his/her acting careers by copying and forwarding this to him/her. Some people never figure this out on their own. You may never see some of the young talents again on the big screen in lead roles who did not follow this rule, but starred in these young people's movies or TV series: 1) Hunger Games 2) Teen Wolf 3) 13 Reasons Why 4) Scorch Trials 5) Death Cure 6) Any Disney Musical 7) Any gay teenager TV show.... and by the way, you don't have to openly come out in promotional interviews or late-night TV. If you put up a lot of gay-acting pictures of yourself on Instagram or your FB page, people will automatically assume this truth. If you are mostly discrete, but let it be known you are living together or dating in a long-term relationship that is publicly known, the producers, directors, and financiers will make this assumption. Seriously, don't kill your talented potential career. Stay closeted so you can keep entertaining us and have work/income in your 30s!! It is almost impossible to "in yourself" after you have publically outed yourself. Sorry, but that's just the real world. For a movie to make big money, it has to sell well in middle conservative America, not just in NYC or the far west coast.
