The Way This Cat Returns Home After Going Missing For 5 Years Is More Unbelievable Than This Fact Itself
148Kviews
True friendships always find a way of lasting. Nguhi Muturi from Dallas, Texas, got a kitty when she was only nine years old. “I loved him to pieces and used to write about him for every daily journal entry in school,” she told the Press Association. “We adopted him when he was a kitten months after we moved into this home.” Nguhi and Panther happily lived together until the girl grew up and had to leave for college. However, during this time, Panther left as well.
“He slipped out of the house and never came back.”
After a while, Nguhi made peace with her loss and moved on. Five years and a few crazy twists of fate later, a cat resembling Panther showed up at the Muturi’s house. After Nguhi’s parents got suspicious, they organized a thorough paw inspection. You see, their long-lost feline had no claws on his front paws. And by an amazing twist of fate, the cat was Panther, hanging out in the same spot he used to, five years after he went missing.
It turns out that after he ran away, Panther was taken to a shelter in a city 15 miles away. Whilst there, a woman adopted and kept him for a few years before giving him to her parents. As luck would have it, the woman’s parents also turned out to be the next door neighbors of Nguhi’s parents.
“I can’t believe this is real because I am still in shock,” Nguhi wrote on Twitter. The neighbors insisted Panther should stay with her former owners, but they decided this was not possible and gave him back, since a new cat and dog were already growing up in their home. “It was heartbreaking but I can’t even be sad [because] today was truly surreal.”

Nguhi got a kitty when she was 9-years-old and called him Panther
They lived together until 5 years ago when Panther just disappeared
After a while, Nguhi made peace with her loss and moved on. Until this happened
Gladly, she was able to find out the truth behind Panther’s unbelievable reappearance

Wait.....what? Declawed the front paws of your cat? That's terrible. I so want to be touched by this story, but can't get over this terrible kink in the story. Declawing. Why would you want your cat to suffer just so he....what? Doesn't accidentally scratch you? I'm just flabbergasted. Please read up on what you do to your cat when you declaw his paws, even if it's 'only' the front.
I completely agree with you. I cannot be "touched" by this story after knowing that these people declawed the poor animal. The procedure is inhumane, painful, and should be illegal. It's exactly the same as if a doctor were to cut off the final phalanges off your fingers: your entire fingertips! Fortunately, it's illegal in Catalonia, where I live (cutting dogs' ears and tails is also illegal--any form of mutilation). Another thing: didn't the family try asking at shelters if anyone had found their cat? No, I just can't with this story. This beautiful creature deserved much better.
Same in Germany. And I'm really grateful for that.

There is nothing inhumane or painful. Why must people always shout animal abuse? If it's a full time indoor cat there is nothing wrong with declawing them so they don't ruin your furniture, claw kids, etc. There's nothing wrong with it, this cat wasn't abused or it OBVIOUSLY wouldn't have returned to the house...seriously people calm down...
Her twitter suggests she now knows better than to have cats declawed. https://twitter.com/ngvhi/status/974889796962316288
Probably only because she got so much reaction to it. its not something you learn later, its consciousness.
That's great. It's not a crime to do something because you think it's the right way, but it's boarding on criminal if they keep on doing it even though they know it's wrong.
I didnt continue reading after I read they declawed the cat...
Neither did I.
Same here.
Declawing is the equivalent of taking away a human's fingers up to the top knuckle. Incredibly cruel!! And yes, duh, microchip your pets!! I'm having a hard time with this supposedly heartwarming story.
Ok, I hate declawing too, but keep in mind she was a young child when she got Panther. It wasn’t her decision!
I was thinking the same. I know my furniture will always be ruined but I love my cat's little claws.
Yeap. Same thinking. I stopped reading on that part.
I felt the same way. It would be a touching story but it is the story of an abusive person who mutilated their cat and was happy when he appeared alive and well at her front door. The miracle is him being alive at all.
Here we go....
That happens to me sometimes

And you miss out on seeing the bliss of a cat making biscuits on their favorite blanket or climbing their cat condo.
We have 4 cats. Our oldest catis
I totally get your confusion. We have cats and would occasionally look after our friends' young children, and we'd run into the same problem: the kids would bother the cats and the cats would scratch the kids. Our vet won't declaw cats, so I also thought I had no choice but to have the cats euthanized at a the shelter, but then it hit me, "Kids can't get scratched if they got no skin, right?" If my only two choices are between having an individual killed vs. removing an individual's body part, the latter is a no brainer, right? Anyway, long story short: there was a lot of screaming and the cops got involved, but when all was said and done, I learned about an amazing new technology called 'doors'. Remarkable things, these 'doors'. They can keep kids and cats separated, and that's only one of their many uses. And the best thing: if you live in a house, rather than say a parking lot or the middle of the ocean, chances are you already have several of these handy devices just waiting to be
Regarding your second post about the two choices: If you're too willing to cripple an animal because it has body parts you don't like - yes, then please, give it away to someone else. IN Germany, it's not allowed to de-claw cats at all, also it's not allowed to euthanize them jsut because they have claws. And lo and behold, people arranged themselves with the terrible inconvenience of separating animals and children if they don't agree with each other.
Anthony K, I want to upvote your comment 10 times but sadly it's not possible. Yes, dammit - keep your damn cat away from the kids or better yet, keep kids away from cats if they can't handle a scratch. If the cat is really aggressive - shut the damn door!

Our oldest cat is 19. When we adopted her, our kids were 2 and 3 years old. Kids would come over to play and the cat would scratch them. Rather than face a potential lawsuit from kids' friends' parents,, we had the cat declawed. She is a healthy, happy elder cat and my now-adult children still love her. We didn't need to get the younger cats declawed because our kids were older when we got them. We love our cats and chose declawing our sweet cat over giving her away.

So, I'm curious. People who downvoted my comment about declawing my cat - would they prefer I gave her away? Shelters are full and lots of cats are euthanized. Isn't keeping a cat in a family that takes care of her a better option? Or let little kids get scratched up? I'm a little confused.
Beautiful story, but all I can thinki of is, that you declawed the poor bugger :(
Perhaps you may let the cat decide where it wants to live. And it could also be a parttime cat. And ... please please please never ever declaw a cat! They can't climb without claws, they can't defend themselves outdoors, they can't catch their prey. They can't be cat!
