Guy Turns Sibling’s Backyard Into A $35-A-Head Cookout Business, Keeps The Secret Going For 3 Years
A smiling man with glasses counting cash from his profitable backyard cookout business.

Sibling Thinks They’re Hosting Fam Cookouts, Finds Out Bro’s Been Selling Tickets To Their Own Backyard

In today’s world, where distractions are everywhere, people’s schedules are packed with work, and being busy is treated as a badge of honor, it’s no wonder families struggle to make time for each other. That’s why those who make a conscious effort to meet, at least once in a while, benefit from that level of closeness.

Unfortunately, one family who tried to spend time together paid a price of admission for their annual cookout. Even more shocking: the backyard owner didn’t know about the entry fee for 3 years, all because of their cunning sibling’s secrets.

Being betrayed by someone you love can be a painful experience, especially if they’ve been telling lies for years

The poster shared that their brother used to throw an annual family cookout at their home, but one year someone mentioned that the fee for it was too steep

The poster didn’t want to put up with their brother’s cunning scheme anymore, and couldn’t believe he’d even pull such a stunt

Getting together as a family and sharing a meal can be a wonderful way to connect and strengthen bonds. Even research from Instacart found that 91% of parents noticed their loved ones were less stressed when they ate together, and 69% of adults believe they’d feel better with a family member’s company at mealtime.

Folks seem to enjoy spending time with relatives and loved ones while eating because it pushes them to make better food choices and helps them connect. 54% of people also believe these get-togethers remind them to slow down and take breaks more often.

There’s something wonderful about family cookouts, but the experience can definitely be soured if lies are told or there is any kind of betrayal

Especially among siblings, telling fake stories or making things up about the other person can seriously damage the relationship. According to Waypoint, this kind of sly behavior from a loved one can cause a lot of pain, fracture a person’s sense of self, and make them lose trust in their other bonds, too.

It’s also very manipulative when a sibling tries to pull the wool over their loved one’s eyes, because this relationship is usually so close. It can also be traumatic to come to terms with the idea that your brother or sister has been telling lies for a long time, as it completely changes how they appear.

Manipulative siblings are difficult to deal with because they always make someone their scapegoat and try to get away with their schemes. This tactic is often effective because lies and half-truths are hard to pin down, and once family members point fingers, a person’s reputation can be ruined.

That’s why psychologists like Dr. Kristin Davin urge people to set boundaries, even with their siblings, before the behavior escalates. The problem is that putting such rules in place might feel alien to some people, who have always put their own feelings aside to appease everyone else.

Setting boundaries isn’t a rude or mean thing to do; it’s often an act of love

Folks need to understand that if they really care about their loved ones, knowing when to say no, giving consequences for actions, and setting limits will only help the relationship. Of course, it might not be easy at first, and there may be pushback, but that’s par for the course.

In this story, the poster realized 3 years too late that their cunning brother was making money off their backyard get-togethers. This obviously must have been a painful realization, but hopefully it pushes the author to take a stand against their entitled sibling.

Love the comments who says 35$ for a burger or chicken and maybe a couple of beers is a reasonable price because everything, including water, costs money. Yes, the 50 cents of water, spread over 20 people, is a significant expense that needs to be accounted for.
