Bridesmaid Backs Out Of Wedding On Last Minute After Bride Demands She Dyes Her Hair

Where there’s a wedding there’s bound to be drama. And all too often, it’s because of a bride that seems to have lost their marbles. It’s become so commonplace that we even have a name for these entitled creatures. Bridezillas exist in a diamond-encrusted bubble, where their every whim must be catered to, even if it means losing a few friends along the way.

In this case, a bride has demanded that one of her bridesmaids dyes their vivid hair because she wants the wedding party to look more ‘uniform’ in photos. When the woman refused, she was told she can’t attend the ceremony. However, the bride still wants the bridesmaid’s 10-month-old daughter there, so that she can be a flowergirl.

Why are brides turning people into props for the sake of a more ‘uniform’ or perfect production?

What happened to the good, old days of choosing bridesmaids based on the fact that they’re the people you want by your side on one of the biggest days of your life?

Nowadays, it’s become like a casting for a Fashion Week runway show. We keep seeing stories about entitled brides taking ownership of other women’s bodies and looks, all in the name of a more ‘uniform’ or perfect production. When did a special person become reduced to a prop?

At the end of the day, bridesmaids (and people, in general) should always have authority over their own bodies and hair. Yes, a bride is entitled to choose her wedding party’s colors and theme. But there’s a limit.

Many experts agree that it’s important to adhere to the bride’s vision, that doesn’t mean you have to do or wear anything that makes you uncomfortable.

“If you already know what you’re uncomfortable with, it’s totally fair to bring that up,” says Jane Yu, the co-founder of YU & US Events. “Just let the bride know before they pick anything, so you don’t derail plans.”

The team over at For Better For Worse, an online wedding vendor platform, warns that brides need to think about more than just how they want their bridesmaids to look in the photographs.

“You need to consider your friends’ feelings towards their different body shapes, their personalities and their usual style,” they explain. “While you probably think they all look amazing in their clothes, many girls will have insecurities about certain parts of their bodies, so have a candid conversation about what they might like to avoid.”

The same applies to hair and make-up.

The experts at Bella Bridesmaids agree… “If she’s chosen you to be a bridesmaid, you’re probably one of her best friends, so don’t be afraid to share your honest concerns,” they say, adding that you should always address the issue respectfully.

Another thing to take into account is that if a bride expects the bridesmaids to pay for their own hair and make-up, she automatically gets a bit less of a say. Allowing bridesmaids to pay for their own hair and makeup is the “more cost-effective” approach, says Mazz Hanna, a celeb nail artist and co-founder of L.A.-based nail artist agency, Nailing Hollywood. However, the expert adds that while this will “give your bridesmaids freedom to see who they want,” it will require the bride to be more flexible about the outcome.

Either way, the key as a bride is to remember that you don’t own anyone else’s hair or body.

Many agreed that the woman shouldn’t attend, and some had questions about the strange courthouse wedding
