Who thinks BP should take into account context and upvotes when considering banning people for 10 downvotes?

#1

Of course if it's hate speech or trolling, banning is quite right and proper - but a comment that 10 people (out of 8 billion) disagree with, is that so bad? Should there be a chance to delete the comment before being banned? How can one always know in advance what people are going to object to? A lot of the enjoyment of the site comes from the comments - ban people and not only do they lose comments, they're likely to lose visitors and precious clicks.

Yeah, deleting people's accounts is a bit extreme. If you wanted, you could make 10 accounts and get someone banned. That's really not ideal.

Depends on the comment. If it’s hateful or something of the sort then absolutely they should get contacted. If someone is simply sharing their opinion, then I think it’s fine.

Yeah! BP should definitely take context before banning a person! If somebody is just voicing their opinion and people don’t agree, they should not get banned. But if somebody is just being mean and hateful, then they should get banned

Thank you for your responses. It appears we are in agreement. My question is therefore - how do we persuade the Admins at BP to do something about it? Either a direct change of policy, or even a poll to see if everyone else agrees? I'm not sure what the mechanism is. Any admins on here who can advise?

The other bizarre thing is that my profile is showing 1090 points, in the top 1% overall - yet I am unable to comment. Somebody do something!!
