Man Helps Immigrant GF Get A Degree And Watches Her Succeed Just To Let His Ego Ruin Everything

After being in a relationship for 7 years, one would think that you’d know your partner pretty well. But alas, that’s clearly not the case, as one woman was mortified to learn.

The Indonesian national fell in love with an American man and they’ve been living together for 6 years. Marriage had always been on the cards… Until it wasn’t.

The woman says she brought up the topic again recently. Imagine her shock when her boyfriend looked at her with disgust and told her he’s no “visa mule,” and would not be tying the knot until she secured her green card by herself. In a plot twist, it turns out the real issue had nothing at all to do with her immigrant status.

Want to legally live and work in the United States? Here are some options

A Green Card is officially known as a Permanent Resident Card, and allows you to live and work permanently in the United States. Immediate relatives of U.S. citizens, including parents, siblings, children or spouses of a United States citizen can apply for a family-based green card. There’s no cap on the number of applicants who can be admitted each year.

“Marriage is just one of the many pathways that one can follow to obtain an immigrant visa, pursue lawful permanent residence, and eventually seek naturalization,” explains the U.S. Law Center. “Other options include work-based visas, the visa lottery, and asylum or refugee visas, among others.”

One route you could take is to get an employment-based visa, of which there are different categories. Each has its own requirements. You might need sponsorship from a company, and as a Department of Labor certification.

The United States also has what’s known as a Physician National Interest Waiver. According to the official U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services site, you’d be eligible for this if you are “a physician who agrees to work full-time in clinical practice in a designated underserved area for a set period of time and also meets other eligibility requirements.”

People who have relocated to America as refugees or who have been granted asylum status while living in the country are also eligible to apply for a green card if they meet certain criteria.

And if you’ve invested, or are actively in the process of investing in America, you could be eligible for an investment-based visa. However, the Citizenship and Immigration Services site notes that you’d need to invest at least $1,050,000 (or $800,000 in a targeted employment area or infrastructure project), and that money would have to go to a “new commercial enterprise in the U.S. which will create full-time positions for at least 10 qualifying employees.”

Another option is the Lottery Visa. “Each year, the United States picks 50,000 applicants at random to receive immigrant visas into the country,” explains the U.S. Law Center site. “Applicants from countries who have been historically underrepresented in the immigration process are chosen from a pool of millions of applicants.”

Ugh! I wish ex boyfriend would move away and you could stay in the U.S. We need more hard workers and fewer guys who are so fussy about their masculinity. But France will treat you better than Dump's g**n patrol. I'm so ashamed of the ICE bullying. I hope you find a great man who'll be a terrific husband and father.

It's mind-boggling that a man would care that much about what his friends think, more than his family adoring the OP and having a good lifestyle. One of my colleagues dated a lovely woman that others said wasn't good-looking. He vented to someone about it, then moved in with her.

No one mentioned that this man, with his ego, is teaching children. He is passing his personal views onto children. I was a teacher for 20 yrs. and unless he’s teaching kindergarten, his beliefs will spill out in little ways in many things. Teachers spend a lot of time with kids every day, we can’t help but draw from personal experience. Thankfully she’s free of him, but I wonder how his teaching will be affected.

He was feeling "reasonable"??? How in the fuckkety f**k is it reasonable to want her to be lesser in order for him to feel good about himself? You want ppl to be "lower" and claim to love them? I never understood that...It is such an ugly thing isent in... I would understand the visa mule thing... But with all the details shown here, it could not be further from that. ZigZag wondered explained it perfect... After 7 years??? AND she offered him to move to Indonesia too, she was in it for love. I really feel bad for this woman. She deserved better. Hell, she reminds me of myself and some of my classmates in away. She 100% left Indonesia cus of Islam... I am a guy and I could not stand that cult...and I know for a fact that women have it worse under it. This guy has NO IDEA how insanely lucky he is that she was willing to go back there for him...

The dude is stupid about being a "provider". In most times and places, both the man and the woman in a marriage provided things for the family. I mean, it's a rare marriage where the wife gets to sit on her a*s all day and eat bon bons. Before 1800, the vast majority of people were hunter gatherers or small farmers, so of course the woman provided (by gathering food, fishing, making stuff farming). It's only office jobs where people rely on making actual money that this idea of the man being a "provider" and that is a teeny, tiny percentage of all the people who have lived. Why on earth don't they teach cultural anthropology 101 in all high schools? Should be mandatory.

Guy sounds like an idiot. Who cares if their partner makes more? And she is even willing to do things proportionally, so a huge release of his financial burden. No idea how his friends even know what she makes, and she is the "sugar mommy". Do people really tell their friends how much their girlfriend makes? Not that it matters, if your friends' opinions matter more than your relationship, you deserve to be single. Hope OP has a good time in France.

So he had an educated, successful woman in love with him, willing to carry the majority of the financial weight, with the capital to buy a house, and all he had to do was say "Let's get married immediately, I don't know what we're waiting for." and he chokes on the fact that she's earning $300k a year. Dude, you should have got new friends, and kept the financial security and loving spouse.

That guy has no idea what a partner is... I made 2.5x what my wife made when we first got together. Eventually, she lapped me and made way more than I was making. I had some co-workers ask if it bothered me, I said "Are you kidding? My team is WINNING!"

This is an aside, but teachers are extremely important in modern society, yet here in the USA they are paid a pittance. Why would anyone want to become a teacher and deal with unruly kids, cliques among the teachers, administrative nonsense, endless bureaucratic interference from both the State and Federal governments, uninvolved and hostile parents, shortage of supplies, etc, etc. And all for substandard pay. I wanted to be a teacher at one point to inspire minds, but I feel like that career not working out was like dodging the magic bullet. As far as the story goes, that guy was a fool. He let others dictate his opinions. What a weak and stupid mind.

Literal GC mule here. I married my Venezuelan ex- almost 40 years ago and it was largely so she could stay in the US (she lives in Canada now). It was the smartest (& luckiest) thing I ever did. We have beautiful 36 y.o. daughter who's much more financially successful than either of her old hippie parents. My family isn't especially close but even when she & I were having troubles and getting divorced, her family still considered me part of the family. That may have been, at least in part because of our child but I don't think so. I have pointed out though, that marrying into a Latino family is like joining the M@fia: Easy to get in. Impossible to get out.

The best part about this story is she's getting the f**k out of the US. Seems like a good idea, or she could end up being jailed for weeks with no period products or clean water, or access to a lawyer. And then they might deport her. All this even though she was here in the US legally, because Trump's administration is breaking the law left and right, and use ICE to terrorize people.

Trump and Obama did the same thing regarding immigration... and She is not an illegal immigrant and as far as I know Ice is no gestapo. This is a politically motivated thing I think ppl should move past. Iwill never understand why ppl celebrate smuggling humans... Why is it the "moral" thing in the usa is beyond me... I recommend looking into immigration and crossing borders illegally from the perspective of the immigrant. I mean fully. Not the bleeding heart virtue signalling fantasy of being the "saviors". I mean the 90% being sold as a s*x s***e or gang soldier reality... To think my own little brother would have been nudged by ppl repeating this nonsense... it is harmful. First to the immigrants. Second to the neighbour who has to "welcome" the illegal ones. I have lived this... Lived through the neighbourhood boys that drowned as they were being sold in the mideterrainian seas by human traffikers... That is why i did things the legal way. That is why I assure you that if you could see the unbiased pictures away from the disgusting USA two party system. You would be grateful for Border police or ICE or whatever you guys call it... The first thing you can do is imagine the scnario of being an illegal immigrant...Take 4+ seconds to imagine living in a country where you have no papers... You did not drown. You did not die crossing a desert good. Now you are left with joining secterian cults or gangs the smuggeler mafia will hook you straight up to them! Ohh and you have no choice at all you are a kid... You are "merchendise"... That is why i see this "ohh ice baddd" and immigrants need to be saavve bleeding heart naive b******t as extreamly harmful, condecenting to the immigrants and above all unbearably naive... So yeh admonish orange all you want i dont like the guy either but this whole save the poor subhuman immigrants at the cost of any sense of law and morality is sickening to me...

Bruh unless you live somewhere with a really low cost of living you ain't "providing" for anyone on 60k. You're barely providing for yourself
