“Here Is A Toy So He Won’t Forget Me”: Boy Leaves His Helpless Puppy At A Shelter So His Dad Can’t Beat It
1.8Mviews
Sadly, the world is not always fun and bright. Sometimes hard decisions have to be made, even if they break your heart. A few days ago, this 12-year-old boy had to make one just like that.
On February 13th, a shelter called Xollin found an adorable puppy at their doorstep with a letter from a boy. The shelter said on their Facebook page: “Someone left this dog at the door of the shelter, inside a box, with a plush toy and a note. The note was written by a kid and he explained his dad was always beating the dog and was planning to sell him. So, in such a state of despair, he left the dog here to save him.”
After they shared this story, people from all over the world wanted to help, donate, and adopt the puppy.

The shelter’s first priority was to check the health of the puppy.
“We need to take the dog to the vet so he can check his tail, which apparently is fractured. We also need to remove parasites and get him a check-up. This means more expenses and work for us, but luckily the dog will be safe.”

They found out the 12-year-old boy named Andrés was from México state. Not much more information is known about him.

The letter says: “My name is Andrés and I’m 12 years old. My mom and I decided to leave him to you. All of this is behind my dad’s back, because he was thinking of selling him. But he is always beating and kicking the dog. Once he kicked him so hard that his little tail got injured. I hope you can help him and take care of him. Here is a plush toy so he won’t forget me.”

The shelter named the dog Rene. They are looking for the right family for the puppy—they have many choices because they got over 300 messages with people wanting to adopt this beautiful pup.

The shelter also mentioned that they wish more people would adopt animals, not only when they go viral. There are millions of abused animals in the world and they all need love and a happy family.
“If you all opened your heart and your home to all and not only to this dog, all our animals in the shelter would have been already adopted twice. Thanks to the few people who came to the shelter offering their help to protect other animals suffering abuse or being abandoned in our district and surroundings.”

What do you think about this story? Did the boy and his mother do the right thing? Let us know in the comments.
Please consider adopting an animal or donating some money to a shelter. Every penny counts!

God I hope the dad doesn't see this post. May endanger the boy and his Mum. But what a brave and loving act on behalf of them both. Xx
Well BoredPanda has broken new ground for me personally. I didn't think it was possible to weep while my blood boiled. I'm sure that beautiful dog will find a loving home, but I have concerns for the boy and his mother.
Me neither but it did..I hate hate hate people who abuse an animal! I would love to get hold of this son of a b***h and see how he likes having his a**e kicked. Any a*****e who dares to abuse an animal should have the same thing done to them, so that they never do it again. I hope this doesn't get the boy and his mum into trouble and I hope the puppy finds a new loving home
"weep while my blood boiled". Best description I could never have thought of or how I felt about this (and I'm a writer). Can I quote you on my Twitter account?
So do I.
Yeah, maybe that shelter should have kept it quiet!!
Or blurred the name and age or something like that
Totally agree. Care should have been taken to protect the boy and his mother. This pup should have been quietly adopted, same as the rest of the shelter's animals. This story put them on the radar.
Couldn't agree with you more. If someone can do this to an animal, chances are they'll treat people like it too!!
300 people wanting to adopt the pup. How many are looking for this poor kid and his mother? So sad.
No kidding. Many abusive spouses/parents mistreat pets to frighten their family members into submission.
I was thinking the same damn thing. I cant even believe someone would be so stupid to go public like this.
Thinking the same thing
My first thoughts exactly, i think we should all ask for it to be removed, I for one are going to.
Rachel Stern please don't broadcast it on twitter as well.
I doubt he can read...
I hope the same thing Rosesinmyhair. That was my first concern. For the little boy and his mother.
I agree too, well said. The shelter could find a loving forever home for Rene without going viral. God bless Andrés, his Mom, and Rene. I hope Andrés can adopt another dog as soon as he grows up and is living independently........................http://www.cash95.com/

thank you for the article you are an inspiration to us all. Heres a great way i found to make money work from home. I hope it helps some others! www.indeedmoney.com
Great that the dog is now safe, however the shelter, before making this go viral (or even sharing it publicly at all) should have really thought about the safety of the mom and boy. If the father sees this, and recognises the dog and the realises then story is about him and his own family it will have terrible consequences. The shelter really should have thought a bit more about the circumstances and not so much about online attention.
I totally agree!
Unfortunately true. It really scares me silly to think what happened to these two after the husband found out what they did. So, shelter now contact authorities to alert them to the possible violence that may have been incurred.
Oh! I didn't consider that. Let's just hope that this boor of a "man" is illiterate!
Indeed, really stupid imo they made the note and the story public -_-
I am so proud of the selfless boy who knew this was wrong and decided to protect the dog he obviously loved but i have to agree, I am extremely concerned for the boy and his mother. Can the shelter reach out to authorities to make sure this does not end horribly?
there was no name or info...
Sounds like the 'dad?' Is from the old school of ignorance... just tell him the dog ran away and he would swear and curse and believe it...
true....
I agree! Why show the letter? Geez!

How about dropping their names?!?!?!
Something tells me this guy is not a Bored Panda reader. There aren't many news papers to pick up the story in Mexico. My greatest fear is them living in an abusive environment.
You add hope that they will not be killed.
And the thing is this is just one website. What about if the local news picks it up (which is likely they will as they run stories like this all the time) and report it in the local newspaper or news bulletin?
they are in danger no matter what. Once the dog wasn't there any longer and how aggressive this man is, they both got beaten before it went viral. They also need help.
RIght on . Desperately!
I agree. But online attention is necessary creating funding and awareness. They should probably have used a fake name/note and different dog for the pics.
I totally agree with you Jennifer. This could put the boy and his mother in harm's way.
You’re so right.
Jennifer Those were my thoughts exactly!
Letter is in Spanish. Likely neither boy nor father speaks or reads English. The ‘online attention’ has probably covered the vet bills as well as getting this pup a new home, and it is possible several others from this shelter. More importantly, it might make other people think about how their actions negatively affect their families . The outcomes are not just about ‘likes’
maybe pic & letter is fake...what's done is done. now we pray for the mother& son. pray that father runs away and never returns..
can't point fingers. what's done is done. all we can do is pray for the best for mom & son! fur baby out of it forever. he will have his day.
What an heroic act. I truly hope there is another heroic act that frees the little hero from the abusive person in his life.
Yes and I hope the abuser pays! How awful!!
