50 Works Of Wood That Are So Awesome, They Ended Up On The “Woodworking Ideas” Facebook Group
It's wonderfully fulfilling to have a hobby where you have to use your hands. For one, it forces you to take a break from looking at screens all day long. Working with wood, for instance, is incredibly meditative and is a great outlet for your creative ideas, barring the odd splinter here and there. And if you’re anything like us, the smell of sawdust makes you smile, too.
That’s where the popular ‘Woodworking Ideas’ Facebook group comes in. Uniting over half-a-million members, the community focuses on sharing imaginative, unusual, and clever designs to inspire both DIY amateurs and professionals alike. We’ve collected some of their top posts for you to enjoy. Scroll down, upvote your fave pics, and be careful where you put your hands, Pandas—the varnish isn’t dry yet!

I'm not one for expensive stuff, but I would pay a lot of money for that one, extremely worth it
This crib is made by a company named Stokke and was available for purchase at buy buy baby in the United States in 2000 The mattress height was adjustable for both the smaller bassinet and the crib size they used two different mattresses.
It's beautiful but when it becomes a regular crib does is go down farther? You normally don't take an infant who barely moves and then put them in a toddler bed right away. When it's a regular crib it's just not deep enough and a baby can easily climb out of it and fall.
That wad my thought as well. Also those chairs look Hella uncomfortable.
Load More Replies...But where does the oval mattress go when not in use, isn’t this a space saver? It is cool though
Beautiful and creative stairs, but wth happened with the floor? It looks like a concrete truck tipped over and spilled.
Load More Replies...the stairs are magnificent. the floor however is a trip&fall nightmare of uneven surfaces.
It certainly is wonderful, and I'm intrigued to find out how on earth is was fabricated. Is it rolled, bent, or carved?

Every family home should consist of several small houses each person occupies individually with a communal area for eating and watching TV
OMG, that is exactly what a house I want 😆 - weird-looking, away from people, with a lot of woodwork.
I love this, but my knees are protesting the thought of climbing all those stairs with the vacuum cleaner.
If you can afford this, you can afford more vacuum cleaners.
Load More Replies...My only question is about those trees with no greenery. Are they healthy? If you build a home like this, what happens if supporting trees do become unhealthy? What does that bode for the integrity of the structure?
I think the "trees" with no foliage are stripped down because they're structural. That's what it looks like to me, anyways.
Load More Replies...If you’re completely new to working with wood, the first step you should take is to sit down and do some research. Think about what it is exactly that you want to accomplish. Do you want to create art? Do you want to craft a piece of furniture that could become the centerpiece of your home? Do you want to learn some tips and tricks to maintain the wooden features in your home? Or do you simply want to create some simple knick-knacks so you have something to do in your downtime?
Whatever your motivation, it’s best that you figure it out sooner rather than later. That way, you’ll know what to focus on and you won’t have to switch between vastly different projects.
I just woke up and my brain skipped, "even." So I thought you wrote you'd use it to only go up LOL
Load More Replies...Love the notion of not carrying a full laundry basket of dirty clothes down the stairs.
I think sliding down while standing in sock feet is the way to go. If you did it multiple times daily, you'd have pretty good balance.
Sorry, had to scrape my jaw up off the floor. I did NOT see that coming. My life would be complete if someone made this for me.
They really should mass produce this design. With people being driven into smaller and smaller spaces, we need as much room and storage as possible.
They do mass produce them. Quite popular in Asian countries.
Load More Replies...I see a lot of cold mornings. Coffee thermos. Whittling away for months. Nice job. I assume that is a permanent art installation, since it seems connected to the stump...
There are a few in situ carvings like this outside the hospital I work in. Always make me smile. Such amazing pieces. 👏
is he one of those chefs who creates ice sculptures for the buffet every Sunday?
I wanna pet the Dragon. You know humans love dragon. I wonder how long before some mad scientist genetically engineers one.
Naturally, what project you’ll undertake will depend on a lot of different factors. Like the space you have available for the hobby (we’re jealous of anyone with massive garages and sheds), how much free time you have after all of your other responsibilities, what tools you already have at home, and how much money you’re willing to spend on new gear and materials.
Watch a few YouTube videos, Google some tutorials, and be honest with yourself if you’re hyped or underwhelmed by a particular project. It’s very helpful to consider whether you’ll have enough patience to finish everything.
Yes, this is too nice to allow rodents to play in. A child would adore having a play house like this
Load More Replies...All I can think is what if the wood burner caught fire. All that work up in flames
It looks fairly safe not perfect, but I think it the walls around it are aluminum and heat resistant tile on the floor.
Load More Replies...But before you go all out and get a wood lathe, several sets of sparkling titanium tools, and a shirt that says ‘I Love Wood,’ try to contain your enthusiasm and start with the basics. Find a teeny tiny project (whatever you're thinking of right now, go smaller), grab a few simple tools, and just get it done.
That way, you’ll figure out a couple of things. Namely, whether you genuinely enjoy woodworking (and if you might need to find a different hobby). And how much time and energy you’ll really have to dedicate to this.
The thoughts in my head are telling me ride the bike in that position lol
At first, I thought it was a gorgeous rug (it flows from the doorway)! Fascinatingly talented creator!!
The forced perspective of the photo makes it look as if it's flowing from the fireplace. 😮
Yes, but I hope they bought a number of spares. Imagine it breaks and you can't find one that fits again!
Load More Replies...I wish my bits were this organised, there's always a least one missing from every box.
Are you kidding? This looks like something Adam Savage would MAKE! (…and then possibly blow up …)
Load More Replies...Well, it's impossible to have too many tools, so...
Load More Replies...It’s perfectly fine to be passionate and enthusiastic about a project, but remember to stay grounded before you spend a sizeable part of your treasure hoard on something that you might drop in a few weeks or months.
It’s one thing to be inspired by pics of beautiful projects on social media where you can imagine that you’re going to be the next global DIY superstar. It’s an entirely different thing to get your hands dirty and diligently learn from failure after failure after failure.
As a musician, i really want to play it to see how it sounds. It looks so beautiful!!!
We watch a LOT of YouTube videos involving woodworking, guitars like this and my all time favourite - epoxy river tables. But one of the best woodworking videos I've ever seen on it was a guy making a bench out of oak with a gorgeous unicorn design on it! It was stunning and the tools he had made, or maybe he actually bought them I'm not entirely sure, they were extraordinary! I can't remember his channel name but you might be able to do a search for it using keywords like unicorn oak bench or whatever. It's worth checking out!
Took me a while to realize they carved the exterior texture! Thought it was the original tree!!
Lol me too. In fact it took me til I read your post.
Load More Replies...That's an entrance to the tree house, of course. You just can't see the ladder from this angle.
Why do I have a feeling that I would roll this bench forward and backward just because...
I can see many dumb ways to die on this one lol I really like it tho
Doesn't matter how you put it. Each way is the right way. Perfect for today's world.
As we’ve covered on Bored Panda before, what truly matters is having the right tools for getting the job done. Just because something is expensive doesn’t mean that it’s going to be quality. And though it’s important to take good care of your tools, a craftsman’s skill is still more important. Having the best gear in the world won’t make you a grandmaster at carving more than a lumpy, misshapen figurine if you have no experience to back it up.
Great for Designing and Drawing out 3 Dimensional Homes or Offices maybe like an Architect Does!! Or Perfect Easel for Painting on!!
That's a lot of dedicated wall space. I'm sure there was a good reason for it. Seems over-kill for just affixing to a wall. Seems like it would be even more practical if it were free-standing, capable of being moved as needed. I guess having the ratchet slots go all the way up is for laying the table flat to the wall? On a side-bar, my first impression of the overall design was reminiscent of some sort of medieval torture rack, or something, lol...
Loft beds are a truly genius way to increase usable space, but they are a Cocker Spaniel’s Mommy to make the bed!
Hehehe took me a couple of seconds, I'm stealing Cocker spaniel's mummy!
Load More Replies...Yes, it is quite beautiful but it appears to be only an artists rendering.
Load More Replies...Very nice woodwork. Very nice and clean. Would work great until the kid reaches head-knocker height... 12-13yo? I could see this working well for a little person too.
It’s pretty but as a child I knocked myself out running up a ramp. I hate to think what another child could do.
And it has RAILINGS. Hand rails AND saftey side rails. Something so many "artistic" staircases lack. All the other staircases I've ever seen featured here or anywhere else for that matter seem to scream "Oh no, art in architecture can't be inclusive too!"
Load More Replies...Am I the only one who can see that the two halves of that staircase don't fit together? It's not a little landing in the middle as you can see the handrail from the top just dwindling down. It's some manner of composite picture.
That's just the design of the staircase. It's the House of Small Wonder in Berlin.
Load More Replies...Created nearly a year and a half ago, in January 2022, the ‘Woodworking Ideas’ Facebook group has since then grown to house nearly 520.4k members who enjoy the creative inspo meant for DIY hobbyists and expert contractors.
However, it’s not just them who love the community. Artists can also find some motivation among the photos and videos. Even people who have never held a chisel or saw in their hands can still appreciate the amount of effort, sweat, and tears that went into the craftsmanship.
It looks like a banana hook! Too bad there’s not a banana that big to use for scale. LOL
No it would Tip over Backwards too Easily Breaking somebody's Hip in the Process!
Rather odd, though... where the back slates and seat slats meet... How the back slats flow towards the body rather than away to cradle the butt. Seems like it would be a bit uncomfortable in that respect. IMHO
Load More Replies...I’d have to plant wildly roaming rose bushes to go up the sides. (And maybe over the top.)
It's a gabezbo! (I know that's not the correct spelling of gazebo, but that's what my family always called it.)
What I learned from experience is unless one has wood working equipment that has a vacuum system, all of these nice looking places to hang your tools will get covered in sawdust. Having all tools in closed drawers makes cleanup much easier.
The team running ‘Woodworking Ideas’ wants to make it as welcoming a space as possible. As such, the admins and mods ask their members to treat everyone with respect and to ensure that everyone feels safe in the digital space.
“Healthy debates are natural, but kindness is required,” they urge folks to be polite, even if they might have different opinions. (Pro tip: that works in all areas of life, too, not just on social media.)
I hope those gaps have glass in them as I just know I'd knock, phones, pens, mug etc through the gaps
You aren’t allowed to have any of those things on the table - it’s too pretty.
Load More Replies...Maybe the side we can't see has a hidden roomba door? Nah, wouldn't work for dropped items. You're right. Glass would be helpful. I
Yup, but the weak link here is the Kwikset door handle/lock hardware. Using lockpicks on this lock is as quick as using a key.
Load More Replies...Looks Great for The Jolly Green Giant to Peak out the Door Window! I on the Other hand would need a Ladder!
So what holds you back, except maybe you yourself? :)
Load More Replies...These are absolutely gorgeous projects when they are first done... I wish they would stay beautiful. The thing that always seems to ruin these efforts is the dissimilar coefficient of thermal expansion. Resin wants to expand when warmed. Even slight micro expansions, over time, will cause the resin and wood to delaminate. So, the key to long-life projects like these is to keep them in a cool room, away from sunlight, and fairly stable temperatures.
Love that Beautiful Live Edge Dining Table!! What a Masterpiece to Keep forever!!
I normally don't like the wood/resin look at all; but this set would be gorgeous in a beach house with a view of the ocean. Not that I'd ever see/be in one... but that's where it's be best at home. 😂
Members are also urged to “give more to this group than you take,” so as to help build a genuine community. As such, self-promotion and spamming really don’t have a place here.
“Being part of this group requires mutual trust. Authentic, expressive discussions make groups great, but may also be sensitive and private. What's shared in the group should stay in the group,” the admins and mods explain that a sense of trust is vital in this space.
You would have to be careful as it might run around the room at night. At least the cord would let it escape.
Kids are fine, we all grew up climbing something similar, unless you had overly protective parents I guess. It looks fun for a kid tbh
Load More Replies...That will be fine in 8-10 years, but those littles are still just babies. Plus, what Mom in her right mind is going to climb that to change the bedding, and retrieve odd socks and sippy cups? Not I.
I think the fisheye makes it look taller than it actually is. I am guessing this is a reasonable height for most adults to just reach in to the top level.
Load More Replies...Pretty sure. No way this guy/girl got all 3 kids to poke their head out and actually smile at the same time
Load More Replies...Jeez people, you don’t need railings- kid holds on to next step as they go. As long as they take their time, they will be fine. No different than some playgrounds- they good ones at least, that offer kids actual challenges, which they crave for healthy physical, motor and brain development.
The secret is that there's a door and hallway on the back side of the second level. The ladder is a fake designed to freak out visitors.
I like the storage on the side. I would have loved one of these as a child!! Reading nook up top!
Wasn't this the place that Arnold and his daughter lived in in Commando?
Yeah, crude is not quite the right word... but I get the jist.
Load More Replies...My sister has a house similar to that in Banff, Canada! 🇨🇦 She turned it into a luxurious B&B. Nice going. Stay away ‘forest fires’!!!!
Does anyone hear that? I think it's the Bonanza theme... Very cool, rustic, and a whole lotta work.
Which of these woodworking ideas did you find to be the most inspiring, dear Pandas? Have you ever worked with wood before? Have you ever made any furniture or art that you're extremely proud of? Please put a handrail on those stairs for those of us with accessibility issues
That's a hunka-hunka lota wood. Supreme sense of stability, durability, masculinity, and good 'ol Tim Allen grunts.
Love it!! Those Stairs will Never ever Wear out for Generations!! Looks like Something Built by Our Canadian Timber King Builders! They are from Williams Lake Area!
looks like a job for waterjet or CNC. A little bit further with the design and you could do a Hans Ruedi Giger piece (i.e. Aliens set theme designer).
the idea of curved frames and join it with multiple pieces are unlimited applications, same as #14 on this list
That looks great. Although I would have some questions about dissimilar coefficients of thermal expansion. Over time, it seems like it would begin to delaminate. Also, I would not let it sit in the sun or experience significant temperature fluctuations.
That is simply Gorgeous! And Yes Cabinet Doors Like that would be Gorgeous!!
took the word right out of my pie-hole. Advanced fancy. Oooo.
Load More Replies...Wow. So many pieces and yet it still SEEMS seamless somehow. This is stunning in such a subtle yet striking way. I'm not much for the modern touch but this is A LOT of skill and labor.
Beautiful but they should’ve somehow incorporated a tasteful slide somewhere in there!
for as well built and the time it must have taken to build it I think I would have chosen a different wood to start with
Why? How do you know it wasn’t specifically chosen to match the decor? I think it looks perfect.
Load More Replies...This.... this is like stepping into one of my dreams. I don't have any words!
Most house's and hotels in zakopane, Poland, are like this, tremendous craftsmanship 👍
This is a concept, it has yet to be built. The square section of glass and steel below the main floor is part of an open tube which starts above the roof and allows rainwater to flow into an open collecting pond at the base. Seems like the perfect spot for mosquito cultivation, and the fact that you can't clean that glass would drive me nuts.
very nice but two thoughts immediately come to mind. First, nice work, but a bit of a waste of space. Second, if they were going this route, why not finish the theme all the way up. Why leave that last area begging for completion? Very nice wood work though. My concerns are in the design.
Can't say i see it as waste of space bcoz otherwise it'd just be a plain wall without shelves obvz
Load More Replies...So, are the books on the top shelves the ones the owners really, really hate?
*me reaching to grab something* *vaces fall down and broke* my mind : hAiL nAh
Impressive and super handy. If it is made with a CNC machine it should be mentioned because that is way easier.
French Cleats - very nicely done. Looks like they used Baltic Birch plywood!!
Mine too, I just wouldn't be able to put anything on the shelves
Load More Replies...Everyone's dear sweet kitty/kitties would just LOVE this 😻😻😻😻😻😻💖💖💖💖💖💖
My cat too, but it would have to be modified a tad. Has potential of being the best cat wall in the world!
I actually had the pleasure of using a wood fired hot tub in the Ecuadoran Andes quite few years back. First time I had ever seen one !
Clever, but I'm too OCD for this. I'd want to straighten it every time I looked at it. 🤪
The middle drawer offset look like it might be just the right height for an outlet. If positioned right, it would tuck up under the overhang. I don't know why I thought of that. ...and, yeah.... the OCD thing would always be triggered.
Wicked. You know how hard it is to get the curves and contact points to come out exactly right to allow the tabletop to come out even close to level and at the desired height?
You can book a stay in this treehouse here: https://www.quirkyaccom.com/woodman-s-treehouse
clever wall idea. The gaps... I assume they are simply left open or are they filled with something?
Let's see how many margaritas it takes to fall out of one of these swings! Looks like FUN!!!
Ten bucks says I can fall out of one dead sober!
Load More Replies...I don't understand the point of putting swings in places where you can't swing.
Im a little perplexed. I can see eight kids sitting here. swing back away from the table fine, but coming back hit the table. I see any food or drinks getting knocked, I hear children screaming and crying. I hear the words no and stop repeatedly. Its a lovely and clever design but for some reason I see a nightmare.
Those look a little unsteady for anyone not over 12 and/or stone cold sober.
No, you’d plunge headfirst into the moat. If you couldn’t swim, THEN the aforementioned death thing would come into play.
All of these creations are done by very good and creative craftsmen, the others are Artists !
And yet are still using a sleeping bag in the middle of the floor.
Load More Replies...Not sure why but the wall sculpture behind the headboard reminds me of that sculpture in The Devil's Advocate.
Even Todays overbuilt Homes couldn't Accommodate a Room this size in Them!!
I’m not sure you could seal it well enough to be used as sinks, though. It would be cool if they did.
The tough part is sealing between the metal fixtures and the wood. Once that seal is breached, then rot begins.
Load More Replies...really freaky cool design. Not sure how it will hold up in twenty years.
If it is properly sealed with marine polyurethane, it cures to a non-porous surface, disinfect as usual.
Load More Replies...A Dentists Sink for Chairs on Opposing Sides? I would have Used it for Something else!
How do you turn the water on? Industrial soap dispenser with a sink like that? Nope.
Not safe at all. The central part of a cement block is not that strong and definitely not made to support anything from the side, it’s meant to be laid flat.
yeah there's some details missing. also the back would fall over if anyone leaned on it.
Load More Replies...There has to be more to this than meets the eye, structurally... Otherwise, nope. Fail. First time someone leans back... CRASH. The way it looks, anyway. Unless there is a sub-structure supporting the seat shape, and then that is secured to the beams. The beam extensions also serve as more beer holders. Need to be Forstner drilled for cup holders. lol... kinda red necky ⥀.⥀
Totally agree :-) The whole thing just looks sloppy - they haven't even removed the labels from the end of the wooden beams....
Load More Replies...Wai until the First Drunk sits on it and Breaks his / Her Back when They Fall off Backwards Through the Railings!! Nope!
Those are always useful for identifying people who have never processed the concept that someday they will be old. (Of course, with stairs like this, they might not be!)
Load More Replies...Well ya sure don't wanna go staggering up THOSE stairs drunk at the end of the night...
I'd flatten my body against that wall going up and down.
Load More Replies...I love how the bench seats can move closer to farther away from the table. It’s hard to eat at big picnic tables if you’re a little person.
Except if there's a tall person sitting next to you who needs the bench pushed back further. Too bad there's nothing like individual seating accommodations which would allow each person to have their own comfortable seating position at a table.
Load More Replies...Beautiful table, problematic stairs, but a railing would solve the issue.
Are we show casing the table or The Staircase without a railing ? Either way pretty good craftsmanship.
yes it is... but DO NOT SLIDE THE TABLE. It will permanently scar that floor. Needs rollers that retract or something (like UHMW sliders maybe) or four strong men on each corner whenever to need to move it. And yeah, death trap stairs. Yikes!
Load More Replies...I think we need to admit that architects are aliens sent here to kill us all utilizing really pretty but really deadly designs. And, if you can afford the rest of this place, you can afford individual dining chairs with backs.
I just Do not Like Open Shelving!! First Tremor of an Earthquake & where do You Run to First?? What do You Try to SAVE?? Not a FAN!
I'm not sure how structural this would be, I could see it working really well using plywood though.
Kinda cool. Side bar though... I get this scrap wood pieces vibe. I have this box of scrap pieces left over from jobs. Looks a lot like these shapes. Nice wood though. ¬‿¬
I'm sure they can use that privacy glad that looks like a mirror on the outside woke you still able to see out, from the inside.
Load More Replies...Love It! sight windows for small dogs, big dogs, small children, larger children, adults & really tall people - or maybe the top one needs a parrot perch!
Your craftsman could used frosted glass or better yet create an etched design !
All of the links are welded together at the contact points so they're a single, solid piece.
Load More Replies...This is the table the dungeon guards sit at to play dice and cards. I saw it last month in Middle Ages Magazine.
Sadly, it's not tensegrity. Here are some examples of tensegrity furniture: https://www.google.com/search?sxsrf=APwXEddFUdSoxRWEmzqvP48S-OmKhlksRQ:1683660125550&q=tensegrity+furniture&tbm=isch&sa=X&ved=2ahUKEwjOt9Ld-uj-AhUYAjQIHTvEA7oQ0pQJegQIDRAB&biw=1920&bih=937&dpr=1
Here are some very similar stools: https://www.etsy.com/listing/824182426/chain-stool Description lists them as welded chain. You can also just look up "welded chain table and chairs" and find many similar items.
why do I see this and immediately think, "hope you won't be moving anytime soon."
Ok, this is the best on this list. Cat overlords can confirm.
It doesn’t have enough vertical space to be a functional litter box, and not all cats are willing to go all higglety pigglety up and around and down and through just to relieve themselves. It is a GREAT idea, with a couple of design flaws.
so if the front door is closed, how do they even get to the litterbox??
I think this may be an elevated bed tray and we are seeing one of four high density foam feet. The bottom surface looks like a sheet on top of a not solid subsurface.
It took me a minute to figure out the purpose. Certainly the most sophisticated workplace for tying flies. At least I thought that's what it is.
Now this is nice. With a Renzetti no less. But no one needs that many reels.
"But no one needs that many reels." LOL. You have no idea how wrong you are. You and my significant other :-)

Resin is expensive, so just imagine how much that table is worth with the craftsmanship and resin
Load More Replies...Just think of all the glue ups the base took and all the sanding by hand to clean it all up!!!
I'll be honest. Had to read this twice, wondering why BP hadn't censored
Load More Replies...With the ripples alone it's worth at least $2000, with the face and I don't know what are they supposed to be stars or something, I'd give them like $45.
I love that it's tied up to be suspended but still has to lay on the ground. Why.
If it isn't suspended, it falls to one side or the other, at least this way it sits straight as it would in the water.
This is pretty cool. I'm not fond of having that many wooden surfaces surrounding pizza ovens and bar-b-que/smokers. I can see that whole thing going up in flames.
Same. I worry about one stray ember from a fire just a slightly out of control causing that whole thing to catch fire. Maybe there is some sort of treatment that can protect the wood.
Load More Replies...Raw wood in a kitchen is a bad thing, so i agree with you
Load More Replies...The majority of this is not wooden, there for it does not belong on this list.
It will sink into the dirt waaay faster than we think....
Load More Replies...To go with the big lawn and most likely enormous house.
Load More Replies...The guy tall enough to reach the tools will be too tall for the work surface, no?
My mind is whirling trying to work out how they put all the pieces together
They could have made legs out of that triangle wood and gotten this thing up off the floor. But still, spectacular.
Isn't it store bought? a lot of furniture stores sells beds like this one.
I get the storage for wine bottles and glasses, but what's the top part for?
Sorry, i was never in a tattoo studio. I think it is all alcohol, an alcoholic dream.
Load More Replies...This was an interesting exercise, but one clamp isn't going to get you very far!

Looks like two.... one pocket, one barn type
Load More Replies...This might help. https://goodideatrade.com/collections/space-saving-gadgets/products/convertible-ladder-chair-library-kitchen-step-stool
It's supposed to be a step ladder / stool combo, but it's not safe because of the tiny hinges and trim boards for the structure with no bracing. This thing is garbage.
