Seth Gordon’s Baywatch is a comedy action thriller released by 6th of June and is based on the lifestyle of a safeguard crew named “Red band”. Inspired from a very famous TV series, the movie had lot to anticipate success with a cheesy, sexy star cast and a story loved by many in the past. But, even that cushion didn’t stop criticizers to bloop the plot, script and confusing genre. Viewers wanted a lot of broad humor and sarcasm with an air of “nothing too serious” all around. On the contrary, they found distracting elements of pertness, ugly A jokes and action in few patches.
The story mostly revolves around two elite swimmers and safeguards, who despite their own differences, are fighting an opulent shady resort owner (Victoria leeds) to save the beach from drugs. The Cocky entrant to crew and two time Olympian Matt brody (Zac efron) finds it hard to culp with the obscene bull Zack Buchanan ( Dwayne Johnson), who being the head, is only interested in Matt’s safeguarding skills and not the medals. Somehow, they together fight at each other’s back to bring out a drug revelation dangerous for the future of bay. Alexandra daddario and Rohrbach didn’t maroon well in the hot-shot red swimsuits and were left barely noticed in the action scenes too.
Binding Dwayne Johnson, Zac Efron, Alexandra Daddario and Rohrbach in a beach savior crew as the “Red band” sounds too rich and glam. In fact, the team played super sport at insulting, fighting and still somehow supporting each other. Even Priyanka chopra in a negative lead with two sidekicks, looked sizzling and elicited critics appreciation. But that too, didn’t save the film from getting low ratings and haunting flak. It becomes haywire with absurd script, Dialogues and pushed adultery to fill the void.
Viewers found it a really desperate and bad adaptation of a really scintillating 90’s TV show that once had a better virality and profits than the movie today. While, critics didn’t care to torment the movie, they hailed few performances in the film, specifically of Priyanka Chopra. The Indian international spread the vile exactly as demanded and was no less to other ‘baes’ in the movie, when it comes to beach dress-up.
Nailing the coffin, i am only able to give 2.5 out of 5. Being an optimist, i seriously couldn’t find enough elements to lift the movie to a level complementing it’s star cast.
