Baroque-Inspired Portraits Of Black Girls Highlight Their Amazing Natural Hair So Other Girls Would Stop Hiding It
We are all full of natural beauty, we just need to bring it out. Regis and Kahran, a husband and wife team behind CreativeSoul did just that, only for young black ladies. Focusing on their hair, the duo created Afro Art, a series of gorgeous portraits that has cast a spell on everyone’s eyes.
The stunning photos feature girls in elaborate costuming and hairstyles, from the Baroque period (roughly, 1600-1750) to steampunk clothing and fierce high-fashion ensembles. “We feel that it is so important for kids of color to be able to see positive images that look like them in the media,” Kahran told My Modern Met. “Unfortunately the lack of diversity often plays into the stereotypes that they are not ‘good enough’ and often forces kids to have low self-esteem.”
“We hope that viewers will see the beauty and versatility of afro hair and we hope that girls around the world will be inspired to love their unique differences and beauty within.” They have worked on the series in various states in the US, and even though the preparation was meticulous, the duo managed to maintain a level of spontaneity.

So many times when someone talks about natural kinky hair it's the loose curls that's shown. So happy to see type 4 hair here too. And their edges are laid! Slay!
I have like 5 hairs in 3 rows so this is really amazing to me. But i guess if you have hair like that, you really start to get annoyed by it. See, i can easily wash my hair and go to bed without drying it, in the morning it is all fine. I just make a pony tail and off I go. But this kinda hair is (i guess) pretty high maintenance. But even though i would like to experience to have hair like that once. Long story short: Sorry for the bla bla bla. These pictures and all the girls are absolutely gorgeous!!!
High maintenance or not I still envy their gorgeous hair. I look like Gollum after a shower.

oh my god their hair is slaying me! i love how inspiring this is especially to young girls
I'm not getting much of a Baroque feel, but that doesn't matter because they're all well-done and damn stylish.
How beautiful! I grew up in the 70s when most of my Black peers wore their hair in afros. To me, that just looks normal. I'd love to see more natural hair now; of course, I'm not the one taking care of it.
I think it beautiful that They are telling girls (mostly black girls ) it’s ok to show off their. Hair I know from My own problems I always hide my hair but know I’m showing it off Afro and all😜😜
I love this, it is so great, and I have nothing against Afros, and honestly no one should
I’ll be Showing this to my GRANDDAUGHTERS! They have been sold a bill of goods! Rapunzel was a fairy tail!
A lot of ladies have very different textures of hair. I do admire those who go natural but I can certainly understand why so many decide to go with the wigs and weaves. I think it may because its just easier to deal with than their natural hair. On the other hand, I do know so many ladies that wear wigs because they want "good hair" I saw this when I watched Chris Rock Docudrama on "Black hair". It was amazing that so many are willing to pay thousands of dollars to get that hair, but sometimes they put their hair expenses before household ones. It is there that I think it all falls down. A woman, no matter her color, should not feel this kind of pressure in her quest for beauty. Go natural, it is after all, beautiful in it's own right.
I have just read the text. Honestly I am quite sad, that this is necessary. Please do not misunderstand... You are all VERY beautifull. The sadness appears because you have to. I am a white woman living in europe. I am SOOOOO tired off racist people who can't accept people for who and what they are in stead of their colour. I congratulate you on your beautifull shoot. And I hope that black people soon will be able to ecperiense the same benefits as white people. All the best
Whatever hairstyles these women wear, they are all just gorgeous. But it is nice to see black women featured in "classical" European art styles. And to see that they look as "native" (in the true sense of that word) in these poses and costumerie as any white woman would.
I would like to congratulate the author or authors of this matter. She is simply wonderful. The girl in photo 1 is a true work of art. I thought it was a realistic painting.
Apparently I had a comment that people are replying to, but I can’t find it.... but they had beautiful black boys also
My favorite hair is Afro hair. I used to babysit a little boy and would pick his curls to make a fro and his mom hated it lol.
Well she was my best friend and she didn't hate that I did it.. she just hated his hair like that. His Father did it to.. she just preferred the curls.
Load More Replies...As a very white person with very straight blonde hair, I am so envious of the glory of dark, mad, bonkers kinky afros. I care nothing for the colour of the skin but the beauty of the wildness and movement is marvellous. Never be ashamed because it’s bloody brilliant. Although it must be hell to comb. Good luck!
nice pics... but those white balls kind of make me shudder because they remind me of some eggs...
The Flexin' in my Complexion girl is #3!! All of these girls are beautiful!
These ladies hair is beautiful, I remember a episode of Wendy Williams show where she mentioned people of color hair is delicate so I guess these styles would not be to practical but it may just be me but it also serms that some people of color rock the no hair look really well as well.
I'm sure people will think I'm being incredibly dumb but surely all hair is natural hair if it comes out of your head.
I love the hair, some of the adornments are over the top, to each his own.
Why in the world would a pro photographer use a dark background for these shots? The hair is fantastic---once you discern it.
🤗 "I am beautiful No matter what they say Words can't bring me down I am beautiful In every single way Yes words can't bring me down Oh no So don't you bring me down today" [Thanks: Christina Aguilera]
Wow there are some ignorant people on here. If you want to ignore a complaint from another race about the way they're treated you're part of the white privilege problem. It's literally all over the internet - doesn't take much to google it and educate yourself to being just an iota more sensitive to the world around you. Easier to call someone triggered on the Internet instead *rolls eyes*.
I LOVE this and the hair. Just AWEsome. Yet once again the models are not smiling. They look like they are under suffrage and this to me is not sending the full positive message... why not show some happiness in the positiveness.
