Ah, the neighbors. We all have them, and not all of them are necessarily our favorites. Especially when they literally invade our personal space, litter in our backyard, and simply don’t know how to act like a decent human being. Such neighbors in our books are listed as terrible, and today, we intend to expose what behavior is strictly a no-no.

If you happen to come across a post that seems to attack you and your past behavior toward your fellow neighbor, maybe it is time to take a moment and self-reflect. And if you are familiar with a neighbor that fits the description, this is a sign to take action and deal with the problem because you deserve better.

To learn more about neighborly disputes, Bored Panda reached out to Dr. Kinga Mnich, a social psychologist, who kindly answered our questions. Read the full interview below.

I mean, you can’t really park like this on accident. She either drove home hammered drunk or just didn’t care. Sucks to suck.

I really wish that in the UK you could call someone to immediately come and haul away a car blocking a drive, instead (in our area) you have to fill in an online form then it gets looked and and only then will they see about sending someone to LOOK at but not haul away the vehicle, instead they might issue a ticket and only then, maybe later, will they see about sending a vehicle to remove it.....providing it is done in office hours.

Been there, done that. Not one f*ck given. I had politely asked the neighbor's friend to not park in my assigned spot. 2 weeks later and I not so politely tell her if she parks there again, I will have her towed. 2 weeks later, her car got towed. It cost her over $250 to get it out of impound. She and the neighbor come pounding on my door ranting about what a jerk I am. I don't put up with that kind of sh*t, so I asked her, loudly, "What part of I WILL HAVE YOUR F*CKING CAR TOWED did your little pea brain not understand?". Now, I'm a big gal and can be scary AF when necessary, so they just walked off muttering. A different neighbor had her car towed the following month. He didn't give her a warning & I thought it was hilarious.

I don't think it's unreasonable to ask neighbors not to interrupt A WEDDING. It would have been, what - maybe half an hour of keeping things down a little? Oh, right, fanciest house so of course we have to be d!ckheads about it. For shame.

I kind of get it just because I get the urge to do the opposite of what I'm asked/told, even if it is what I planned to do already. But unless the request was written rudely, it seems like a basic request for courtesy. It's not like they asked for quiet at 2 pm every day moving forward because they want to meditate in their rock garden

If they weren’t awful people why wouldn’t you just be quiet for a couple of hours while they had their special ceremony? I guess it depends on how it was phrased but even then why would you mow, I get letting your kids play outside or whatever but mowing is just mean.

That's just a total d*ck move. However, the neighbor should have reached out to the neighbors before allowing the wedding, to ensure everyone was ok and willing to comply. Just because they have a fancy house doesn't mean they r automatic jerks. If I had a beautiful home, I would love to host my families wedding to save them some money. We don't have to just all b jerks. I'd say the neighbor that chose to intentionally ruin the wedding of someone they don't know, just because they know someone with a "fancy house", is the AH neighbor

Having an unpleasant neighbor can be challenging, and it is one of the most uncomfortable things about living in a community. The conflicts can range from noise disturbances to property boundaries and even different life virtues. However, if you plan to live where you do for a long time and the neighbor feels the same way, it is probably worth investing your time and energy to resolve the neighborly disputes.

If the case is a milder one, and you haven’t approached your neighbor about the issue yet, the first step is to try and engage in open and respectful communication. The main key is to share perspectives with one another and try to understand the reasoning behind their actions. You never truly know what the other party is thinking of unless you ask.

My neighbor let's her German Shepard poop in my yard. She also lets it run around unleashed. I finally got to talk to her 2 days ago when I was checking my mailbox and the dog barks and runs at me. She comes over to get the dog and apologize so I tell her that if her dog does that when my dog is around (always leashed and in his own yard btw) her dog will get attacked. She actually said "Is your dog small? He won't do anything to it. He's afraid." I bet my eyes were bigger than my face when she said that. I told her that my dog was big and dog aggressive. She just kinda walked away and I felt dumbfounded that she gives that little of a c**p for her dog. A loose dog is considered "at large" in my city. I feel so sad for her dog.

There used to be a great UK tradition called Gut Fawkes Night which was celebrated on the 5th of November. We’d have a bonfire, jacket spuds, Parkin and of course fireworks. One night, and that was it until the next year. Now the blasted fireworks begin in October and continue on and on, and on. Me and my cats hate this time of year. Not forgetting the fireworks to celebrate the new year. The various times the fireworks are set off makes me think they’re celebrating new year where they once came from.

Fireworks are entirely random and some of them round here are awful big. And as you say it goes on a couple of weeks either side.

It’s not just pets that are affected! It’s a stupid and dangerous. They are explosives for f**k sake, yet asshats with a case or two of beer in them are allowed to fire them off in their backyards! It should at least be required to have a goddamn license and some training! A few years back, sister and her family were barbecuing in their backyard when they heard fireworks going off in the middle of the day on a Sunday in July. They went to the front of the house to investigate, found the neighbour across the street, stinking drunk, firing the poppers off into the side of my brother-in-law’s brand new pick up truck! Buddy, thought it was funny. Brother-in-law is a cop. Did not end well for the neighbor.

Dr. Kinga Mnich explained how being part of a group, like a neighborhood, affects the way we view and interact with our neighbors, especially when there are problems: "Biases and cultural differences, also even the cultural differences play a significant role and how we judge our neighbors actions."

She also added: "This can make us hesitant and having open conversations, asking questions, or even how we set up our security system."

Not every neighbor agrees to settle disputes over a cup of peaceful tea with cookies. Sometimes the tension is too high between the neighbors for one reason or the other. Therefore we asked Dr. Kinga Mnich to share a practical advice that could improve relationships with difficult neighbors and promote a more harmonious community.

"Sometimes it is unclear if the neighbors are difficult right from the start and just unfolds overtime. Keep your conversation cordial and polite,” shared Dr. Kinga Mnich.

They have repeatedly thrown trash into the window wells, but this is egregious. They scream, yell, and constantly get into fights and arguments, but every time they are confronted they just deny it.

Window well cover. Cost may come out of your pocket but it will close the "trash chute" and cut down the annoyance factor. How about some documentation to be given to DCFS? Record the fighting if you can. I fear for that poor baby.

Just the very wording "in our little corner" sets me off. You know that these people consider themselves to be the self appointed version of a HOA (home owner association). Something tells me that they nit pick and have their small minded opinions about others but this letter is beyond reasonable. Maybe they can reschedule the photo shoot with House Beautiful magazine if they have such an issue with your property.

My level of petty would be to block of the path. If, while doing so, Snow gets packed hard around the tires, well, isn't that inconvenient? Yes, I've done this. Our sidewalks don't get cleared regularly. Right after they were cleared one day, some numbnut clears off their car, dumping all the snow on the sidewalk in front of my house. Sidewalk awas clear up to my house, after my house, but in front of my house it was impassable. It took about an hour and a half to clear the 25 ft frontage and pack it all in around the car's back, front, and the side by the sidewalk. I whacked it in hard with the shovel. But at least once I was done, you could walk through without too much difficulty.

And though sometimes it seems impossible, the goal should always be to find a friendly solution that benefits both parties. Neighbor disputes can become emotionally draining, yet by approaching them with patience, empathy, and a willingness to compromise, you can work toward a resolution that preserves the peace and harmony of your community.

The Neighbors Cut Down The Shade Trees In My Yard Without Permission And Now I Have To Look At Their Ugly Garage Which Was Not Visible Before

The Neighbors Cut Down The Shade Trees In My Yard Without Permission And Now I Have To Look At Their Ugly Garage Which Was Not Visible Before

I am a renter in this house. Last week the neighbors (whom I have a good relationship with) told me they were having some people come by to do some yard work/trimming and asked if they could access my yard if they needed to. I said yes, but I had no idea they were planning to cut any of the trees down. This morning I came outside and it looked like this.

Chopping down other peoples trees needs to have bigger legal penalties. It takes decades to replace a shade tree.

If they pursue it, the owner can require the people who destroyed the trees to replace them. And I don't mean plant saplings. Transplanted full-sized trees, and budget to care for them for at least a couple of years. It can run well into 6 figures.

My SIL was asked if the workers could come into her yard. "Why?" She asked. The neighbor hired them to do landscaping in their yard, which apparently included my SIL's tree. The tree wasn't even over the property line in anyway.

Did they have a permit? In my town, you need a permit to cut down a tree taller than six feet. If you do, it’s a fine plus replacing the tree. Mature trees can be worth thousands of dolllars. If I were the landlord, I would be pissed.

In the UK that is illegal. You are allowed to trim overhang only. Any trimmings have to be given/offered back to the owner. We often have the opposite problem of people growing large or fast growing trees and not keeping them in check and then the neighbouring property is forever in the shade.

You have to really aggravate honey bees for them to sting you. I'm terribly allergic to bees and I never have any trouble with the neighbors honey bees when I fill the bird bath which is often surrounded by the bees. You can tell they know why I'm there because they step back from the waters edge and wait for me to fill it. Also, I guess this idiot has no concept of how pollinazation works.

I don't know, you can definitely get stung by a bee by accident. Many of us have experienced being stung by a bee when you walk barefoot in the grass, or by sitting down without seeing that one is resting on your chair.

This has happened to me twice. Once, it was a guy who parked like that right behind me in my garage area (the rest of the parking lot was near empty), and he came running to me when he saw me and said "I was just throwing something away in the dumpster!". The dumpster was at the opposite end of where I live, therefore he could've saved him a walk and my annoyance and just, I don't know, DRIVE there instead.

This one just make me more sad than angry. So I had to do a bit of research "Trees usually take 20-30 years to reach full maturity, but the growth rate depends on the species, where you plant it, and several other factors." - Quote from https://8billiontrees.com/ This one also reminds of my childhood home. We had a huge cherry right in front of our porch (at least it seemed big as a kid). Every fall my sister and i would get a bucket each and climb up to collect and prepare cherries for marmelade and fresh cherry juice. After we moved i hadn't been there for a year or two but came back to visit the some of the neighbor kids from the street i saw that it had been cut down by the new owners ... I assume the shade was to much for them those 3 months it's summer in Denmark .. sorry for the long post

It sucks sometimes, (especially with trees that were there long before you or your neighbor were) but overhanging branches are your problem, even if it’s your neighbor’s tree. This can sometimes be a good thing though, as you’re allowed to do with the overhang however you (legally) want.

Although the owner of the tree should have trimmed it back so that it didn't overhang the property line, the neighbor who cut it is liable for theft and property damage. Call the police and take them to court. Also find out what they did with the cut wood. I will bet they sold it.

I have a rescue pit mix. Animal control has little power and reporting it does nothing. People continue to breed these dogs and shelters are filled with them. They are difficult to adopt out due to breed restrictions and the breed attracts the s****y, criminally inbred people. I worked in shelters/vet clinics for 30 years. Too many weren't fixed or socialized. The overwhelming majority people who want these dogs are lowlifes, and the rest of them were rescues from crappy situations.

And when two or more dogs come together, bully breeds or no, they can adopt a pack mentally which can be deadly. I wouldn't trust a pack of poodles in this instance. Breeding while neglecting social skills is asking for lots of trouble.

Guys with self esteem issues, and those who don't "measure up" are the ones who give these wonderful dogs a bad reputation. Backyard breeders cause horrible over population of unwanted animals who must be destroyed by the thousands. These types of people shouldn't be breeding themselves let alone dogs.

I’m not sure where this, but in the US, there are leash laws. Nobody’s dogs need to run at large. They don’t have to be vicious to be harmful. They could knock over someone on a walk, run onto the street and get hit or cause an accident, get into neighbors garbage or be senselessly beaten just for the fact they are pit bulls. Animal Control won’t put up with this sh!t

If you have to (and it seems that you really do) call Animal Control and have them picked up. Not all Pits are dangerous, but their reputation makes them a dog that is better on a leash or behind a fence. Let the neighbors deal with the blowback. Free-running dogs are a thing of the past.

When my cousin got married some joker thought it would be a good idea to paint ‘just married’ on their slate roof. In outside gloss white paint. Took years to fade and eventually disappear. Despite what my family might think, it was not me.

It doesn't have to fall. It will fix itself even if you don't do anything. There may be regional drying on the leaves, do not worry. If the wounds are not closed well with pruning paste, water begins to enter the tree through these wounds during rains, causing the trees to rot from the inside over time. Pitch and wax are broken into small pieces and melted by heating them in a container over a flameless fire. In another bowl, the tallow is melted over the fire and then added to the pitch and wax plums. Finely sifted wood ash is poured over these, mixed thoroughly and continued to be heated. It is poured into containers. The paste solidifies when it cools. When used, it must be heated to soften it. However, care should be taken not to use the paste too hot.

Property damage by your neighbor. Call the police to document it, and then contact a lawyer. They will have to pay either to preserve the tree (unlikely?) or have it cut down and replaced with a similar item. Costs for large trees can be significant.

I lived on PCH in South Laguna in the 90s and a new cafe paved their parking lot right up to my driveway. Every time I came home my drive was full (it's not like there was anyplace else to park, even then). I paid the city to post signs, towed. Apparently my highway side rantings and fits became Laguna lore. It was such a magnificent place. Prewar, enormous, stained glass skylight and walk-in fireplace. cute as hell, and the view! Floor to ceiling windows everywhere and nothing to see but blue water. But I couldn't park my car. My last oceanfront pad. Still miss it.

In my state, I would take the tags off the car every time and put them on their stoop. You are not damaging the car or stealing the plates. You would be creating a nuisance for them directly related and in proportion to the nuisance they are to you. They would have to put them back on their veh every time they wanted to leave or get a ticket.

Next Door Neighbor Took Down His Deck And Put The Old Wood With Rusty Nails Sticking Out In The Woods That My Kids Play In

Next Door Neighbor Took Down His Deck And Put The Old Wood With Rusty Nails Sticking Out In The Woods That My Kids Play In

There’s a lot more that is mildly infuriating like his two-foot-long grass or his collection of pallets and old grills in his yard or his neglected dog that howls all day alone in his house (we’re attached, townhomes)… But this one really got me. We’ve got a little patch of woods behind our house that my young kids play in all the time and he dumped all this stuff back there with the nails sticking straight up. Of course, this is what separates my kids from a fun little creek back there so they’ll want to find a way around it. I already caught my 5 year old trying to climb the pile once.

Anyway, just felt annoyed and needed to vent. Carry on.

If the property is owned by the county or the city, let them know about this and who is doing it. It is called "illegal dumping". They will at least be fined and the city will have to clean it up and send them a bill.

The only time I could see this being even remotely okay is if the dog owner is recovering from an injury or illness and has nobody else who can or will walk the dog. Even then, they'd have to seriously know their dog well to be sure they won't dart in front of or under the vehicle, stay in an area with little to no traffic, and just barely press the accelerator. Even then, it's still risky because $h1t happens.

I broke my ankle and was lucky enough that our daughter was able to walk the dogs for me. However, there was one occasion when she couldn't as she had an early start at work, so I took them to the park and hobbled around on crutches with them. Where there's a will there's a way.

We know nothing About this situation. I don’t even want to list the many ways this dog owner may need to walk the dog this way at this time. There is not enough contacts this photo to charge this dog owner.

I know someone who had a foot problem for six months. They would walk their dog this way while they healed. Dog loved it because it could really run instead of keeping with it's owner.

Obviously, we dont know the situation so mYbe we shouldnt judge. There could be illness or injury. Maybe the dog escaped and was too dirty to get in the car?

Exactly. They might have a morning "phone" meeting that they are required to take - easier to do in the car than while walking.

I am disabled (recently) and have a very active hunting dog that requires long walks. I do this but in the country. Even if I wasn't disabled, I wouldn't be able to keep up with his 3 mile runs (he hardly walks). This seems very dangerous though. We don't have him leashed and he runs along side the truck on state land. I do shorter walks with him around the neighborhood but sometimes they require more than we can give them and have to improvise.

I have had my dog escape before and looked for him by car in our neighborhood. I am disabled and couldn't lift him into the car to go home, so I walked him home like this before. You have no idea why a person may have this scenario!!!! Not everything is black and white. I'd also rather see someone take their dog out like this than lock him inside or leave him on a tie out all day. I've taken my dog out on my bike, on my mobility scooter, and of course normal walks back when I could. But life changes over his 15 year life and I know my own dog - he's a son to me, and anyone who judges how I keep him happy doesn't know him or me very well.

I had a neighbor who would walk her senior dog out of a car with it being dragged behind. Also when her dog bit my little sister and drew blood and the dog had to be tested for rabies, she told my sister that my mom wanted to kill her dog.

A few years ago I had 8 1/2 acres of property that I was considering building on. My neighbor had an old beat up truck parked on the property. I asked them to remove it… They said “well I don’t see any problem with it being there“. I told them “ that’s the problem right there. Move it or I’ll have it towed.” They moved it.

You need to talk to him an see what is happening. I had my car parked in our communal garage for several weeks with no engine in it, as the workshop didn't have room to keep my car. He may have run into finance problems in trying to get it fixed. At least it looks like it is not in the way. If there is no prospect of it being fixed, then you would have to ask him to remove it.

It's possible that the local woodland creatures have discovered that your neighbors' garbage cans is their food pantry. There are trash bags that are scented with camphor, eucalyptus, and mint, which are supposed to repel the offenders. You might want to make that suggestion to them.

It is quite probable that the upstairs neighbour didn't even know they had a leak. The first I knew when the tank on my boiler split was a banging on my front door. No visible sign of a leak. Water gushing through the ceiling below. Didn't even hear water running. If you go away for extended periods of time, this is why you should have someone come and check on the property regularly.

Insurance will likely not be valid if the home hasn't been checked on. We dealt with a similar issue of a major leak from the upstairs bathroom of a property we were minding for some people who were away a similar length of time.

I’m In A Brand New House. My Neighbor Feels My Air Conditioner Is Too Loud So He Deliberately Shines His Lights Into My Bedroom

Our house is 2 weeks old and we haven’t installed blinds yet. They are Karen’s that whinge about everything and he is complaining our air conditioner is too loud when he's in the exact same spot on his side of the fence. He emailed the other day saying our air con is against the law and he had an independent assessor review the noise level. I asked for the report and nothing since. We have infant children trying to sleep in the room. Insane.

Get your own light to shine back. Prob since it's your kids room something that rotates. And yea a mirror too would work. Get light blocking blinds. As for the ac turn yours off an then be sure theirs is on an ask if they can hear yours. If they answer yes say well it's off you're hearing your own running. And you can get a restraining order for no contact an if they do just send to the pd to have them take care of it. It's malicious after that an they could be gotten on child endangerment with some of those lights. Oh and maybe a fire hazard too? Depends on the type of bulbs emitting heat.

While I don't condone the crime committed here, why do we light up our backyards like prison yards?!??!? If you're not out there, turn the lights off. If you are out there, consider getting a lower wattage. If it's security you're concerned about, install a camera that can film at night without needing flood lights. If it's for vermin and wildlife - install motion sensor sprinklers. Tons of options.

OK, just posted this comment on a different BP article and I'm posting it again. The first gender reveal was to celebrate a milestone; the mother had had previous miscarriages and this was her first pregnancy to reach the point where gender could be determined. It was a small party for close friends/family with the "big reveal" being a simple cake with pink icing inside. She posted about it on Instagram (IIRC) and it went viral, which she did not expect and now regrets;.

I had this happen when I was living in a student apartment in grad school. It was Mother's Day weekend, in fact. The upstairs neighbors got drunk out on their balcony. The balconies were deck-like with spaces between the slats. Someone got sick after drinking. The apartments had sliding glass doors to access the balconies. So someone got sick, the balcony has a slat floor, and my sliding glass door was immediately below it. Yes, it was incredibly nasty. Almost as nasty as how they'd leave a dog out on the balcony all day and all night so it would "relieve itself" on the balcony. Yeah, that place kinda sucked.

Call your municipal building dept. They have to fix it or it will be a fine, probably between $500‐750. Legally they need to have the correct building number displayed for emergency and other services. They will get a pre set amount of time to rectify this then the fines start. Also, report them for theft of property for these deliveries. I would put special instructuons to deliver to the correct house amd include a description of your house so no mistakes are made.

It depends. In my area are dozens of AirBnBs and the local soccer club piles their cars in the neighbourhood, too. So when arriving home after work, tired and all, or dared to go to Home Depot in the weekends, there is no space left. Tourists and players and guests from the soccer club are totally okay with me having to park 500m away and drag everything home from there. The suggestion that all of them could park there was turned down. Reason: The players are too weak to walk that distance, as 100% of the visitors and tourists. So I indeed block one space with cones. Sometimes they get stolen, but more often the people get the hint.

Not sure if they're having a party or a weekend auto repair shop. If they keep changing the cars in the garage with the hoods up, your town may have regulations about auto repair side businesses.

For what? It isn’t illegal, it’s just inconsiderate. The cars parked on the street appear to be parked legally. The cars parked in the yard (which isn’t the issue for OP) can at best be reported to code compliance if their city doesn’t allow that. (Mine doesn’t allow anyone to park anywhere that isn’t a driveway or curb.)

Some communication should definitely be happening here, to solve this, but I'm giving the late night person the benefit of the doubt until proven otherwise.

Hm... I was in that situation. When I had my 6am-2pm shift I would program my machine to start at the time that it would be done at 4am, so i could hang it up to dry before work. That is, until an elderly neighbor asked me not to, because she could hear the machine in her apartment. I never thought that this would be possible, but apparently these machines are louder then I thought. So now I do my washing before 8pm, or on weekends when I have late shift.

My work would dictate my doing laundry at 4 am, that would be the most convenient time for me to do it, it is also the most convenient time for me to vacuum. However, I do neither at that time because I am not an inconsiderate a***hole!

This is an issue where I live too. The problem here is that the drainage pipe gets clogged with hair and such (we both have lots of hair) we alternate putting Draino hair remover in the sinks - has worked for 5 years now. We just deal with it and our neighborhood is old and the pipes outside have not been replaced yet

Father said he didn't want to have to put his kids to bed early. Don't have to... just tell them to stop stomping around AFTER 10pm. He told me to go ahead and call the police. ...they were evicted

If it's loud enough to be heard through the walls, earplugs aren't going to make that big a difference. There are times when my neighbours are watching a movie that I wear 32db earplugs AND shooting range ear protectors just to keep my sanity, and I can't sleep like that. I won't hear the fire alarm if it goes off three rooms over.

So are they supposed to drive down the street with the doors open then get out and shut them? Grow up.

Are they supposed to NOT close doors on vehicles? Van doors are heavy and are loud when shut. There you go.

I am a gazillion percent with her! I effing hate those leaf blowers. It takes less time to rake and the noise is beyond annoying.

I can't say I'm very fond of leaf blowers, they make an awful noise. Just use a rake, it's just as fast and doesn't make any noise.

Whether gas or battery power, landscaping tools are loud. I'd imagine this person would complain either way.

Neighbor Keeps Parking Uncomfortably Close To My Car

Neighbor Keeps Parking Uncomfortably Close To My Car

There’s a space in front of our houses for two cars. He parks too far towards my place, making only enough room for my car to fit with it sticking into my driveway. When I parked first and got in my spot, he parked insanely close to my car with three feet in front for him to move up. He’s been doing this for months. He’s the black truck. Last Photo: my car only fits with it sticking in my driveway.

Park too close to other cars at your own risk. I had a beat up car I parked on the street. A car parked within millimeters of me in the front and another did the same in the back. Nice cars. My was not. So I moved them by ramming each one, forward and backward until I had space to get out of the spot.

And based on the 2nd picture, it's probably safe to assume that driveway leads to a garage. Plenty of parking you're not using.

It's sad to experience discomfort. When we had exactly 2 spaces in front of the house, I painted a line.

Found a McD's Door Dash bag sitting outside my sons back door about 8PM one night. It had been there since 9AM. No info on any of the labels. No idea who didn't get their breakfast. Son is a truck driver so no one home. Absolutely no way of mistaking house number with another because of the way our numbers go. So our crows got a nice breakfast the next day.
