Not all days were made equal. You see, while sometimes everything falls according to plan, other days turn into 24-hour-long grueling benders that make you question why you even dared to get out of bed.

Blame it on bad luck, your daily horoscope, Mercury in retrograde, incantations, karma, or anything you want, but it doesn’t change the fact that misfortunes and fails do happen. Think of them as compulsory reality checks that remind us we are mere human beings with little to no control of greater things happening in this world. But philosophy aside, if we can’t change anything, at least we can have a good laugh at it.

Bored Panda has compiled this list of people having a worse day than you so you can feel slightly better today until your fail day comes, and when you’re done with this post, check out our previous features here, here and here with more failure.

It’s only human that things sometimes fall out of our hands. It feels like the world is against you for some unreasonable reason and to call it irritating would be a hefty understatement. But if we can’t change a bad day, we can always change the way we look at it. And here we’re going to need some help from a professional. So to find out more about resilience and the power of positivity, we spoke with Susan Petang, a certified divorce coach and the creator of “The Quiet Zone Coaching,” who teaches people how to stop feeling overwhelmed and start waking up happy in the morning again.

The first step towards building mental resilience is instead of viewing these unfortunate moments as "failures" or "misfortunes," view them as learning opportunities, Susan argues. She urges us to think of a couple of things: “What can we learn from this? How can we use this to become a better human being/worker/parent/partner?” and added that crucially, it's a matter of mindset.

Poor baby! His life is going to suck for a long time! I remember many times when I lived in NM and would go party out in the desert. Guys had it easy but us womenfolk would have to squat while drunk or buzzed in the dark. I fell on so many cactuses in my day. I would have to have my friends pull the stickers out of my butt before I tried to sit down. Not fun at all!!!

This happened to me as a child. We were at the lake and my dad was at the bottom of a big hill putting the boat in the water. I got excited and started running full tilt down the hill, which turned into a series of somersaults through a cactus patch. Spent the next hour floating beside the dock on my back so the cool water would soothe me while my dad tore them out with pliers. It was awful, still have some scars.

These look like the jumping cholla cacti. They are nasty little buggers and have spiny segment that detach so easily that they seem to "jump". They are covered in sharp spines an irritating barbs and are a nightmare to remove. This poor guy is in for some pain.

These are jumping cholla cacti which are common in New Mexico and Arizona. They are actually quite dangerous to hikers, runners, and animals as they are covered in large spikes and barbs that break off and get stuck in the skin at the lightest touch or breeze. Think of them like a porcupine if that helps.

Those Lacholla cactuses are a b***h to get out once you’ve been stuck by them. The barbs are like little tiny fish hooks in your skin and all you can do is yank them out one by one.

I have never seen this type of cactus, but it looks very painful! When I was a kid, I was chasing a dog thru the woods and kicked a prickly pear cactus with full force, sticking a giant spine straight in to the end of my big toe. It cost a fortune to get that sucker removed, because they couldn't just pull it out. OUCH. This guy has my sympathy. I wonder if he fell off a bike.

It turns out that some people are more naturally resilient than others. “But it's because they learned to think positively at a young age,” Susan said. “Our attitude towards life - the good, the bad, and the ugly - is formed before we go to kindergarten. Positivity isn't about putting your head in the sand and singing 'lalalala' when bad things happen; it's actually just the knowledge that we'll be OK no matter what,” the life coach explained.

According to Susan, positivity and resilience are very closely related. “Positivity is the understanding and belief that you'll be able to bounce back from anything; resilience is when you actually do it.”If your day is going against the plan and you feel like you could blow up anytime, Susan shared some very useful insights on how to put yourself together and get back on track.

“I teach my clients to use The Power Questions. It's a great way to interrupt the spiral of emotions when everything is hitting the fan!” They are as follows:

“How important is this, really? Don't make mountains out of molehills.

What is something positive and constructive I can do about this? Be solution-oriented instead of blame-oriented.

What emotions am I feeling right now? By identifying and labeling them, we shrink their power over us."
