If toddlers can pick up on traditional gender roles that young, they can pick up that reacting that way will lead to punishment, even when it's valid

I of course still appreciate the gifts and I love to see what people think to get me, but the best part is finding the perfect gift for someone and wrapping it up and seeing the look on their face when they open it. Its sad when you hear a frustrated parent say "I swear he is doing this just to get back at me" (then proceed to treat the child as such) ...kids can totally be manipulating at times but since they can't predict consequences the same way that adults do, rarely are they trying to teach their parent a lesson and it's more likely a frustrated child not knowing how to communicate what they are feeling. :(
