"This land is cursed; the animals hop not run, birds run, not fly and the swans are black not white. This land is cursed and I'll have nothing more to do with it," wrote William Dampier, one of the first Europeans to ever explore the continent of Australia, back in 1688.
In case you didn't know, 26 January is the national day of Australia. And what could be a more beautiful way to celebrate the occasion than by honoring all the little things that make this country the beautiful, interesting and absolutely bizarre place that it is. With that being said, Bored Panda invites you to look through some of our favorite photos shared by people on the interwebs proving that Australia isn't just another country, but a whole different world. As per usual, don't forget to leave a comment here and there and vote for your favorite pics!

Australia-The Land of Nope.
Australia- the land of everything beautiful.Wouldn't live anywhere else! 🐨🦘
Australia does seem beautiful, but I know I'd never cope with the heat and the insects. :(
just try not to touch anything before you have checked it for anything that moves
Yup but some of the people who have lived there all their life go barefoot! EVERYWHERE it scares me
I have found several black widows in and around my house. Those are nopes right? (Not in Australia though, so I'm off-topic.)

It's funny as an Australian seeing all these non-Australians freak out over all this stuff. For real, the chances of seeing the actual dangerous animals is pretty slim, I live on a property in rural Queensland and I rarely see any of the actual dangerous animals.
Most dangerous thing in Australia is the sun. Worst sunburn of my life... Bondi beach.
Giaan, 'rarely' is still much much more than what I'll probably ever see! That said, it looks like an amazing land!
But what about the animals that aren't actually dangerous, just scary? Like those extra large bugs and spiders. I would freak out for 12 hours straight if I ever saw one.
Agree. I am from WA. And an less you delibritally go out seeking these animals you most likely won't see them. I live close to the bush way out side the city area, every so often you see red backs and snakes, but as Australians you learn to live with them. Australia is a dangoures place, but it a place like no other, and things like this should stop people from coming to this country.
Depending on what's on your property, you possibly keep the animal responsible for the most fatalities here - a horse :)
Actually no, I may have 550 acres of land but I only have 3 sheep, 4 goats, 2 dogs and 3 cats. My parents bought the land with no intention of farming it (to many hills), they just wanted to get out of Sydney. The land is all left to the native animals and it's in a protected zone so trees can't be cut down.
I'm severely entomophobic (very scared of insects), so yeah, freaking out over a good portion of this stuff sounds like an appropriate response to me. On the other hand, I find lizards and snakes kinda cute, so another good portion made me "aaawww".
Because the internet makes it out to be that way. You have things that other places just don't have. Even if it isn't frequent, we are like, "wait, wtf if that?? Why is that a thing?"
These are terrifying but it doesn't really discourage me: I'd love to go to Australia someday
yeah! i would like to see all the un-noped animals!
The funny thing is even though we have some of the most deadliest creatures in the world more people are killed by horses and other farm animals followed by wasps and bees. You have more chance of being hit by a car than being seriously hurt or killed by one of our animals.
Is un-noped the same as de-noped?
Me too! Like more Koalas, kangaroos and just generally cute animals! It makes me happy!
Are there any left? Do they have bunnies in Australia? They are about as Un-Nope as it gets. I thought Quokkas might be, When I read an article about them on mental floss. They bite and scratch. Is there any “un-nope” out there — anywhere?
There are rabbits here because the English introduced them- the worst idea ever because they destroy crops etc in huge numbers.
Cockatiels, budgerigars, galahs, koalas, kangaroos, wallabies, wombats...
It discourages me a gracious plenty. I'll pass.
