The first one I agree, but the middle two, with 'was calling' are not really good English. The boy slept indicates a single action, the boy was sleeping is a continuous state, both plausible, but the girl was calling, indicating a continuous action, makes no sense if we think of making a telephone call, and it's quite a stretch to think it would mean multiple calls or shouting out continuously over a period of time.
