When planning a trip I use a combination of Google Maps, Bing Maps and MapQuest - and in the end I rely most on my hand-written notes. However, Google Maps has saved my a**e on more than one occasion.

What's the deal with Apple maps? I've never used it, why do they suck so bad?

It's always a fight in the car, my android that never fails and his iPhone which needs to start using Google maps because its got a habit? of taking the long, zig zagging route and really never knowing where its taking us. Also, the map app in my 2013 Toyota Rav4 does a better job than the iPhone map, and that's saying a lot.

It's not fastest if you die in the middle. That would be a major delay.

This happened in QLD a few year's back. A carful of tourists decided to follow the gps over to Stradbroke Island, over the water in their hire car. The car got bogged in the mudflats and was a write off. The driver's excuse was "But maps said there was a road!"

We rented a Tomtom GPS unit to go with our rental car when we went to France some years ago. It did the same thing, kept trying to send us down one-way streets. We gave up on it when it directed us 200 km south to connect with a highway to take us 300 km north again.
