“In That Time We Had Finished The Meal”: Guy Is Furious At His Wife After He Misses Dinner Because He Was Scrolling TikTok In The Bathroom
While most adults are known to be little kids in disguise, one woman has had enough of her husband spending hours trapped in an endless TikTok scroll.
“My husband has an obsession with TikTok. He’s 40, btw, not 14,” the woman who goes by the nickname BraveField explained in an Ask Reddit post.
The last drop in her patience was a family roast dinner during which she “saw him heading off upstairs.” Fast forward two hours and ten minutes, the husband comes back. The only thing is that at that point, there’s no trace of a done and gone dinner.

The woman later added an update about the whole situation
If the use of social media impairs a person’s important life areas, they may be addicted to it
Among the 7.91 billion people in the world as of 2022, 4.62 billion active social media users, the average time individuals spent using the internet was 6 h 58 min per day with an average use of social media platforms of 2 h and 27 min, according to the 2022 global overview report.
Despite countless advantages they have, a growing body of research has linked social media use to negative mental health consequences, such as suicidality, loneliness, and anxiety. Recently, more and more attention has been given to social media addiction and its potential treatments.
The US Addiction Center defines social media addiction as follows: “Social media addiction is a behavioral addiction that is characterized as being overly concerned about social media, driven by an uncontrollable urge to log on to or use social media, and devoting so much time and effort to social media that it impairs other important life areas.”
Some estimate that between 5 and 10 percent of social media users are addicted, according to Newport Institute.

Whenever we log on to our favorite apps, dopamine, which is associated with pleasure, increases in our brain
Kristeen Cherney, PhD, a mental disabilities scholar, explains that our brains are compelled by social media because whenever we log on to our favorite apps, dopamine signals in the brain increase. These neurotransmitters are associated with pleasure.
“When you experience more dopamine after using social media, your brain identifies this activity as a rewarding one that you ought to repeat. Such a reaction may be more felt whenever you make a post of your own and gain positive feedback,” Cherney argues.
The problem lies in the fact that these positive feelings experienced during social media use are only temporary. “The way your brain engages in this positive reinforcement is also seen in other addictions. Thus, as the feel-good dopamine wears off, you’ll go back to the source (in this case, social media) for more.”

Share on Facebook"Toilet gargoyle"....I freaking love this! My middle offspring would literally spend 3-4 hours in the bathroom with a book. If I'd had knowledge of this term then, I would've put it to good use!
That's only a problem if there is only one bathroom in the house!
Load More Replies...It's been a year since this post was made - brand-new top-quality AITA posts are made daily without the digging - but supposing this man is still on tiktok for 2+ hours while sitting on the toilet, he is going to suffer many bootyhole problems in his life. He is the real AH, while he ruins his AH.
Hey everyone. He made changes once he saw how much of a problem this was. He's not a total AH and this just proves that people can change and be better than they were yesterday. And that's a goal everyone should strive towards.
Great to hear, also if the issue ever resurfaces you can program your phone to lockscreen and require you to input your passcode after a certain timeframe on specific programs to prevent getting caught in a doomscroll. It can feel a little silly but for most androids it is in parental controls and iphone i think its under screentime. I use parental cobtrols on myself because I easily lose track of time, the brief lockout is enough to cue me to stop if I wasnt actively intending to engage in a longer use of insta or tik tok.
Load More Replies...If ever there was a clear example of social media addiction, this is definitely it. I hope that DH gets the help he needs.
Does anyone actually bother to read the whole article before going off? This only happened for a few weeks before he admitted to having a problem, deleted TikTok and got therapy. People in this comments section are crazy.
I noticed that too. For once a positive story.
Load More Replies...I have bipolar disorder. I've suffered chronic suicidal depression and anxiety for over 40 years. I have hypersensitivity to light, sound and touch, especially when I'm on a manic phase. I'm also a recovering alcoholic, though I haven't been a drinker in over a decade. Trust me: I understand having mental health issues. BUT, it's not an excuse. It's not a get-out-of-jail-free-card to do whatever I want. "I'm having a lot of stress" doesn't make it okay to treat other people like c**p, nor to "check out" of being a parent. Kids are only young for a little while. Spend "quality" time with them while you can.
Knowing what some of the content on tiktok is, I'd highly suggest she look at his viewing history. The watching in the bathroom is highly suspicious
Violating someone's privacy is never a good advice.

that's what I was thinking! The most I've ever been in that bathroom was at MOST 1.5 hours. It was a rough day and I needed a bubble bath
Load More Replies...It seems like so many men revert to sullen teen after they become fathers. Suddenly they don't want the responsibility, must have their "alone time", don't want to get involved, etc. More women need to think long and hard about this before deciding to have a baby. Too many new mothers end up with one extra kid -- the manbaby they married.
I seems for once the story has a positive outcome, as it says he uninstalled Tic-Toc after reading all the comments. I also think, that while often the text on these post just repeats the posting and I skip it, in this case there's actually some valuable content about social media addiction. You can read yourself if you have not already done so, but it's good to know that social media usage contributes negatively to mental health. I only use BP and only for about 3 months now, but even I feel some negative effect and addiction, like you just spend too much time and it becomes an escape from reality because it requires no effort. Studies say about 2.5 hours per day on average on social media. It seems there would be so much better usage for this time. Like learning a new language, learn to play a musical instrument, become an expert at skateboarding, take a degree online...
Holy c**p, there are still wives like this out there?!?!?! Maaan, she cooked a roast dinner, did dishes, cleaned the kitchen and did laundry. DEALT WITH THE KIDS! Her patient a*s didnt even flip out or nothin when he had his little mantrum. Dude won the damn waifu lottery and he be pissin all over it. Prime example of a failure of humanity.
yeah he should be reallllllly grateful, I'd have been served divorce papers after that incident.

What the hell is a PITA? Enough with the abbreviations. It's an annoying trend that's been happening lately.
As much of an a*s as this guy is, I'm really glad to hear that he now understands it's a problem, has figured out the root and is seeking help. I just really hope he can stick with it.
related to this story very much. when we relocated the house we got had a small room inthe basement. my now ex had set up a computer, a t.v., a phone line, and his wine collection in it. at first, he would go down for just a little bit but eventually he stayed hours in that room. i got tired of going up and down to tell him that dinner was ready and resorted to just pounding on the floor with the broom handle. after a while, i just stopped notifying him at all. he got upset about it but after i told him why he didn't make any changes. after a while we separated and i moved into a house with basically a small living area in the basement-all it lacked was a stove as i had a mini fridge down there. once when he came over to discuss some issues he said he was hurt for not inviting him to live there with him. i told him why would i do that? had he come to live there he would have installed himself downstairs and would have been a tenant.
NTA but I downvoted the thread because I'm sick of AITA threads as filler on BP. Also, if he is obsessing over his phone, no need to go upstairs. Just send him a text. Less work for you and then it is on record that you notified him (of whatever thing)
One of my partners will sit in the toilet for 4 to 5 hours, making us all late for everything. Royally sucks.
But why tolerate that behavior? Try giving them a warning and then leave.

ohh look another dead beat that uses "mental health issues" as an excuse to get away with being a dead beat
Honey! F**k this guy... Take your kids and RUN!!! FAR AWAY! Sorry! He is a total a*****e. I feel bad for you and any kids.
Op married a 14 year old boy in a man's body. Too bad for her, her life will sick
I imagine that when he got up from the toilet, the seat got stuck for a few secons on his a*s and when it got unstuck it left a temporary donut tattoo on his derriere accompanied by a loud pop sound. My dad used to read a lot in the bathroom and because I was a shy child I used to exercise my sphincters.
NTA My wife was the same way, one of many reasons she's no longer my wife.
I feel lots of information is missing. From perspective of dealing with ocd and getting yelled at for similar behavior when literally I needed help to break free of a cycle, asked for it, and them out of nowhere setting a trap for me despite agreeing beforehand. Here on this situation it appears you could have had a conversation about his unhealthy compulsion rather than blindsiding him. That would cause some yelling and feeling left out sucks.i know I can't do things without help and I'm punished for my disability constantly.
OMG what a child. And she reproduced with him? When he always behaves like this, it would be divorce for me.
nah it is quite believable. My ex partner would sit on pinterest and instagram for 3 hours if I let her.
