My daughter (12) is getting better at tennis so she needed a new racket

The coach wanted to buy it himself so I don’t buy the wrong one or get scammed… so basically weeks go by and he still hasn’t bought it, I tell him I’ll buy one, just tell me which one to buy. He goes oh, no, I’ll buy one soon.

Fast forward, he buys it and asks me to Zelle him $300. I do with no hesitation… first mistake

By the way, money is not a problem at all. If $300 was the price, I would be fine.

Just to check, I searched up the exact racket and it cost $150!

I asked the coach for a copy of the receipt and he said he lost it… then I asked for the store and, I quote, he said “I’m hurt you don’t trust me. I don’t think we should work together anymore.” Now my daughter doesn’t have a coach?!? Eventually, his WIFE sent me back the money. So, pandas, AITA??

Start looking for a new coach. If anyone asks you why a new coach is needed, let them know the previous one tried to charge you double for a racket, and when you questioned it, they decided to terminate the coaching relationship. When re-telling the story, keep it totally factual. You don't want to be charged with slander.

You did the right thing, but maybe in the wrong way. If you wanted to continue with this coach (I can't imagine why) you could have confronted him by saying "I found the same racquet at a better price- so I want you to return the one you got." Of course, he won't be able to and you will have to watch him like a hawk for further cheats. Really, finding an honest coach is better than working with this guy.

I had already thought about leaving this coach he was not warming up my daughter and she was getting injuries. I should have added this on the post.

I used to play tennis at a regional level and had coaching associated with that as well as private coaching. This is not OK on ANY level.
