Woman’s Social Experiment Reveals How Men React When Women Accept Their Compliments
1.1Mviews
Just recently, author, social worker, and activist Feminista Jones tweeted the most brilliant way to piss off men, and it’s genius.
Jones realized that every time a man compliments her and she replies with a simple, straight-faced ‘thanks’ rather than a squeaky ‘thank-you’, men get upset. Simply accepting their compliments is something they don’t expect and it pisses them off (not all men, of course). “It’s the idea that they bestow the compliment on you, and you’re not supposed to be aware of it,” Jones told Buzzfeed. “Generally we’re taught that we’re not supposed to compliment ourselves. When a woman does that, she needs to be humble.” Jones’ tweets have gone viral since with tons of women sharing their own experiences. Keep on scrolling to check them out!

As a man: The responses of the guys is disgusting. But then again I think she picked out the bad answers and left out the normal ones.
Also I wonder what the answers / reactions would be if they swapped roles.
the difference is that most women actually like men that feel good with themselves and sure/proud of their aspect or not caring about it at all
Anyone who makes random personal remarks to strangers isn't "normal". Smart men know better than to make comments like that. They deserve a smack when they do.
This is a very insightful comment. I do find the men's responses very strange, so at first sight I thought exactly what Gerry wrote. It is very true however that I never in my life commented on a body of a stranger. So it is entirely possible that close to 100% of the men who do that are also just too stupid to respond properly when someone just says "thanks."
Offcourse. That is the internet of today. Real statistics, real people and normal reactions don't matter. And they sure as hell won't get you views or clicks. So you pick and choose all the odd people and/or odd reaction and then generalize entire groups. Like this title does. Notice how she conveniently chooses the word men for her conclusion in the title? Never ever will you see a boredpanda post say something like. "Some men", Some women, some dads, Some hairdressers or "the people I interviewed". They are all bold claims to envoke discussion and emotions.
The kind of man who feels entitled to make a sexist comment as a conversation starter is also likely to be harsh in his replies
You are correct Captain Planet... the sample size is definitely a issue but the results are the results "IN THIS CASE". To generalize ALL men is just as insulting as when it is done to women.

You could ask her or do some research to find out.
Excuse me? She picked out the bad answers and left out the normal ones? In other words, it isn't okay for a woman to be aware that she looks good? That's mysogyny at its' best, and exactly what she is pointing out.
How in the hell did you get "isn't okay for a woman to be aware that she looks good" from what Gerry said???

Gerry I'd have to agree, I really don't think these dickheads represent guys, she must have cherry picked to make it newsworthy.

Personally, I think it is made up bullshit. Sure there are asshole guys- the sort that stand on street corners yelling inanities- but fortunately, that is not as common today. Seriously now, we are going to take as gospel something someone allegedly named "Feminista Jones" would say? Oh please, it is a cry for help, an in your face, i hate men and i am better because i am a woman let me show you why men suck sort of name. I am a woman. A very happy woman who is pleased and not at all resentful to have been born a woman and therefore, have zero to prove..

I bet. I wouldn't be upset if a woman reacted like that when I complimented her. She's trying to make men look bad...
No. She's just telling jerks that she knows their game and that it won't work.
The responses are so weird... Usually when I agree with someone (like "you're smart - I know :)"), it starts the conversation, no one get aggressive. Maybe choose better friends/dates.
Agreed. I'd love to know who these men are, relative to Jones. I think they may be total strangers, not her friends/dates.
Regardless of who they are to her, they shouldn't act so entitled. What makes anyone so special that because they like something about someone else, that the person themselves shouldn't like and/or be proud of that attriute without being judged, called names, or in any other way insulted? It's just another way of trying to crush other people's self confidence.
It's because you included a smiley face.
Ugh the comments here lool. Well I did it all my life, whenever someone comments with "You're smart huh?" I say "Well yes, otherwise you wouldn't talk to me, would you?" I simply question their intelligence :) It's different when it comes to looks though. Men who are afraid of woman that recognize their beauty aren't interesting to me anyway. So when a guy tells me "Your hair/face/legs/eyes/whatever is/are pretty" I usually reply with "Thanks" ... usually you get three different reactions .. 1) almost none 2) wow you're narcissistic/cocky/full of yourself OR 3) Wow finally a woman that does't have confidence issues. And the last guy is the only interesting one, at least to me ( I don't generalize) because he can deal with a personality that doesn't need to be fake-humble or fishes for compliments with "Oh I'm so fat/ugly/whatever" just for people to say "NOOO you're not". My 2 cents about that :)
I have gotten a fourth reaction, laughter. They think I'm being pretty funny when I answer like that and that usually starts a conversation. I think her answers are hilarious. Of cousrse she likes her own hair!
When they* sorry lol autocorrect
Oh that! Yes haha, but I usually put them into type 3. And yes, women change things, especially hair, when then don't like it, it's obvious she likes her hair. Would be kind of awkward to go out with a hairstyle, you don't like and tell everyone how you don't like it
I am curious, is the second type common? Also, do you think there is a real difference between the 1st and the 3rd type? Maybe the 1st type is just someone who thinks it's natural that a woman doesn't have confidence issues...
Funny thing is that the 3rd type is most common to me. I tend to think that the first type is someone who just accepts it and doesn't make a fuss. However to me I wouldn't know if type 1 is actually type 2 or type 3 inside, or as you said thinks it's natural. Type 2... is not that common where I am from, I'd say, however when I travel the world I encounter them more often than in Austria. (which I am really greateful for!)
The second type IS the most common, sadly. You have to consider the personality of anyone who would say that out loud.
