Since the invention of the laser pointer, cats and dogs alike have been asking themselves two questions: ‘What is that red dot?’ and, more importantly, ‘How can I get it into my mouth???’.
For Jimmy Jazz and Larry, the cats of Richard Mitchell (trumpet player of the Vancouver band, The Brass Action), the question has become a life long saga.
Richard was so inspired by the duo’s unwavering determination and perseverance in trying to catch that red dot that he decided to write the song, Seeing Red, to offer their perspective on the struggle. Though dark and angry at times, their story proves to be one of hope, hard-work and unbreakable spirit. Wanting to take their message to a wider audience, Richard cast Jimmy Jazz, Larry and their pal Rosie the Dog in the song’s music video.
As a side benefit, Richard hopes that this shows his aging cats (Larry and Jimmy Jazz, now 11 and 15, respectively) still know how to rock – Larry performing as the story’s protagonist and Jimmy Jazz channeling her inner Joe Strummer in those choruses!
