I don't think it's unpopular, just that it can be more complicated than that. There's stuff like ease of access to contraceptions and abortion, cases of sexual assault (including marital rape), religious bs - and then on the other side the fact that if you go so far as to say "only the rich should have kids" that veers into eugenics even if it's meant well - and in our deeply broken society, only the rich can truly afford to have kids. Everyone else is really one paycheck from everything crashing down around them.

I had a coworker whose husband didn't have a steady job, and neither really did she, but yet they had two kids within two years. It's the most irresponsible thing people can do.

So I 100% think this parent is a jerk for stiffing the babysitter, but keep in mind that circumstances can change. Like, a family can be financially stable and “able” to afford X number of children, but then bad stuff happens and they don’t have as much money. Job loss, divorce, serious illness, etc.

Well it didn't say "several". Could have only been 2. As for easy kids, many kids are easy to look after. Doesn't mean child care should be cheaper. Ages are typically the factor in cost per day.

@Tobin Cost of living does vary from place to place. $15 may seem like a good wage where you are. Where I live, it's less than minimum wage. Your top offer would actually be illegally low here (though still 50% more than she's willing to pay). It may not be a hard job, but it is a job where the employee has to go to their home and forgo doing other things that might make more money or be more enjoyable. If the market rate for a private sitter is $15-$20 where she lives, then that market has spoken. People have better things to do with their lives than take her $10 to watch her kid. It doesn't matter how hard she thinks it is. That's the going rate where she lives to buy a chunk of someone's irreplaceable time. She wants 20 hours per week at the start of the work day. That's not side money time. That's prime money making time. Apparently she didn't learn about the concept of opportunity cost at her CORPORATE job.

I kinda agree with her. I am a dad and I watch my son while I work 50hrs a week... its not hard. Anyone demanding over $15 an hour to feed and watch a baby is out of their minds.
