Lovely photos, but this is not okay. Even if the owner is experienced with big cats, exotic pets are a bad idea. This is not a domesticated animal, it should not be in a house, or a car, or used for pretty photos. It should have been rehabilitated for release in its natural habitat, or if this was not possible, a nature reserve, or big-cat sanctuary. Buying an exotic animal to keep it as a pet is not saving it, it's selfish, and even if the woman is well-meaning, it's dangerous, and possibly cruel, if she isn't as expert in caring for big cats as she claims.
I have to agree with you. Although Luna is beautiful, keeping a wild animal as a pet is never a good idea, because you can never fully domesticate them. I feel sorry for Luna.

It is adorable!! But let´s keep in mind Luna is a wild animal... They have strong bonds, I know, but she is still a wild animal. Anyway, Im happy to see her safe and with ppl (and doggos) caring for her.
This is just a baby still. Luna will turn into an adult cat and she will change from "cute and cuddly" to demanding and hormonal. She might see the dog as a competitor for food or she might see doggy as food itself or she might be so confused that she'd see the dog as a mate, even. Neither of that is good for the dog. Or Luna, for that matter.

To all those saying it is sad Luna was adopted, I call nonsense. If you just go and check the daily videos you will see the big cat has free walks, animal friend, doesnt live in a cage and is in excellent health physically and mentally. There is no zoo or sanctuary which can provide such care and love . Even in San Diego zoo where cub cheetahs are hand raised by humans in fact don't enjoy such freedom as Luna. The fact that this woman decided to dedicate her life to the black cat is obvious . I love Luna is in the best hands possible. Keep up the excellent family and ignore all those naysayers . Luna is already an ambassador for big cats. (There is no need to advertise that ). Any human with love for animals will appreciate there is one more panthera enjoying life and living best possible life considering the context.

One day something terrible might happen like the "pet" chimp that was like 200 lbs and almost killed the owners friend. The animal ends up being put down. It's terrible.
Domesticated house cats are wild cats that are accustomed to humans through socialization with humans and training. If it's never been around humans, it will be just as wild as any big cat will be. And, it's been two years since you posted this comment. How's your prediction working out?

Luna grew from a cute kitten to gorgeous cat. Venza is sweet too. I understand that a panther is a wild animal, but this might be the best viable option in a bad situation. Luna is alive, happy and healthy, and has a friend in Venza.
We still have circuses with animals and mobile zoos in Russia. Due to the low standard of living and weak interest in the problems of animals, and people from the state, many animals die from the conditions of life in captivity and through the fault of people. They are being exploited. Such a life for this cat is the best outcome of events. Believe me...
She has done the right thing. A baby bonded to humans even if taken early to a park will not be accepted by another panther pride. Releasing into wild with no pack nor hunting skills mean certain death. The panther is beautifully bonded and socialized and has animal companionship a secure home nutrition and a genuine life. This is not being treated as a pet or exotic pet. It’s a human bonded panther who is happy healthy and beautifully cared for. Well done! Not for anyone without this ability follow thru and clear sense of responsibilities

Because I want to go there. The planet I live on has endangered wildlife in literally every corner due to human activities on every level: corporate, governments, and individuals. If you really care so much about wildlife being wild and free, I hope you are advocating strongly for the environment and against trophy hunting and killing wildlife for fun and sport and even doing so for entertainment on television. Absolutely Beautiful story. Luna is where she belongs, and receives the attention love compassion nutrition and companionship she needs. Bonding with a big cat has happened time after time with great outcomes for cat and human. Thank you for this editorial and photos, and the feeling in my heart because of your work.
I see the comments about it not being fair to Luna because she is a wild animal, but she was rejected as a baby and raised by a human. This human has the knowledge and the love to raise this beautiful creature. Ideally no a wild animal should remain wild, but in Lunas case I doubt she could ever survive any other way. I bet if we could ask Luna she would tell us she's very happy. I truly wish Luna and her family all the best. I'm the daughter of the original cat woman, LOL. My mom and I gave taken in some many abandoned cats and dogs over the years. Sadly I lost her in 2018, but her legacy lives on with me.
I've watched most of the videos and have nothing but praise for the young couple that have saved Luna's life. Stop your criticism! None of you could do what this Lady has done. This large cat has been raised with the utmost care and it shows in her demeanour and calm gentle personality. This was an exceptional case and this couple has had to make some changes, at least for the next 15 years. Putting Luna into a "Sanctuary" would be cruel and unusual punishment. Luna has turned into a gentle lovable cat which will always be under the supervision of this lovely Lady, so stop your pompous self righteous criticism!
Well, I have read most of the comments on Luna and it seems to me that 80% of the contributees are incorrect. Luna is now a fully fledged mature cat and noting has changed in her character. Also, Luna is not being raised by one woman, it is her and her partner who have raised this kitten into a beautifully natured adult. I have the tendency thinking of wild horses who are actually fierce fighters especially when it comes to the mating season and stallions. Now, those horses are truly wild but can be domesticated to which I think Luna is of the same situation only better as she doesn't know of any other situation. People say the exact same story of wolves that can not be domesticated, well they can be the best of pets and I know that first hand. A friend raised a lone cub that was not much larger than a man's hand. This beautiful male wolf (neutered) grew into the most lovable adult and adored by all.
Obviously, Deborah B. has a little jealousy thing going on for this remarkable lady. What part of the story didn't you get? The lady provided life-saving care for the small leopard, and clearly gives the cat a very loving environment. And a best friend to boot! Of course nobody should just take such a tremendous responsibility on if there's any doubt. But your comment smacked of just plain hating!
I don’t see what the problem is. The panther seems happy and to be well taken care They are being poached in the wild. Can you imagine that beautiful panther being killed for its coat or fake medicine? This panther jumps in trees and has a lot of room to run and play. Are you sure you are not just jumping on the bandwagon ? Now Orcas belong in the Ocean and there is no way they can be captive. There is a huge difference.

I can understand the concern of people over this situation but if the woman has professional experience working with big cats this is going to be the best situation for the leopard to live. They wouldn't be able to release her into the wild even in her native habitat.

Ok ok I read more into this and apparently she got Luna from a 'zoo on wheels' in Russia. Their rules about exotic pets are different then in other countries, so that may be why they were so willing to give Luna to that woman. Also according to her, she didn't want to give Luna back to the zoo in fear that she would be mistreated in one of those 'zoo on wheels'. I'm not saying it's ok, but the rules are different there and if anything, I'm just glad that the panther wasn't left to die

This cat is with someone who has experience and is super happy with it's rottweiler brother. She has a huge backyard and as we can see through the videos she gets tons of exercise. The cat has an exceptional life.
Luna has a much better life here than in a traveling zoo. I think the woman did a wonderful service for Luna. Look at the photos. Luna has more freedom than any zoo. However, at some point, Luna will need a great sanctuary, which I'm sure they are aware and know when it will be time.

Many comments display disagreement with this wonderful woman and her husband's efforts in raising a panther as a cub abandoned by its mother. On the legitimate grounds that exotic animals should not be kept as pets. However, the woman didn't actively set out to purchase a panther on a whim, but acted out of sincere concern for a cub that would have died while in captivity w/o human intervention. With humans encroaching more and more on shrinking habitats for such animals, it's our responsibility to intervene when needed to ensure the survival of as many of these species, whether is captivity or in a living space with wide open spaces such as this woman has. If naysayers are so opposed to what this woman is doing then they should better spend their time in addressing the bigger and more important issue of habitat loss and mindless human population explosions that unrestrained will force all existing species to become extinct due to habitat loss.
I see no difference between a handler at a zoo and this woman who is experienced. Actually I think this woman is better for Luna than a zoo. The space Luna gets the room is bigger than any zoo I've been to offers. Both panther and rottweiler look healthy which is a sign of a very responsible owner. Any domesticated dog or cat can be dangerous, we should not kid ourselves about that. I've been bit twice by yorkies and twice by dobermans due to irresponsible owners. She has a panther walking on a leash! I can't get my domesticated cat to walk on a leash. I don't have the patience. She's got it together :-)
Can't believe how people are acting. This cat was abandoned by its mother, never taught anything about the wild. This beautiful lady gave her life to raising this cat. Doesn't look like there is any suffering to me. Be happy that she is willing to do this and help. This takes a lot of time and energy. They are best friends and I couldn't believe that Luna is such adorable and domestic until I followed her pages. They love each other, I guess Luna thinks she is a dog coz she is so unharmful to an extent that you wouldnt believe it.

There are very few individuals or families who are suitable to raise and keep a wild animal like Luna safe, secure and healthy; it is a tremendous, lifelong endeavor. BUT I am a wildlife rehabber and i am so very grateful that this young lady has Luna! It was warranted and, indeed, indicated in this instance.
Say what you will, but this is one very happy cat. I think she is quite happy right where she is.
It's all moot now. Why dwell on what isn't? It's not like she's out trying to amass wild animals. They asked for her help and she gave it. How about applauding that? If you haven't kept up with the videos, you wouldn't know how well she is living. She is living and eating and getting lots of exercise. This is One extremely happy cat. She loves her lady and her lady loves her. Maybe it's wasn't the ideal situation but this lady did a wondeful and kind deed. This kitten would have died. Much better to be with Victoria and Venza, then pacing back and forth in a cage and never having affection. Victoria did not set out to do this but she's given this beautiful cat, a wonderful life. Luna is a leopard. Lions, tigers, jaguars, leopards, and snow leopards, are part of the genus panthera. Any with a black coat is considered a panther. The most common panther is the leopard and the jaguar. There are white panthers too, when their coats are white.

Guys, listen. I get that everyone is really worried that the owner and the doggo will get hurt one day, and that Luna deserves to live in the wild. But first: Luna would not have survived without a mother. Taking her in from the wild was the right thing to do. Second: this woman does have experience. “Experience with raising big cats” does NOT mean that she has bought other exotic animals, it means that she has worked with animal conservationist societies to help nurture and rehabilitate big animals. Third: animals that grow up WITHOUT a mother to teach them proper etiquette for mating and such will not have a large chance of survival, so they are mostly put in conservationist controlled forests/habitat nature reserves to live with other animals of the same species and be taken care of. I think this was the equivalent of that, since Luna seems to live and play outside a lot. The woman was not being selfish, she was saving her from the zoo that was so stressful that her mom rejected her

Luna is such a gorgeous majestic cat, and her friendship with the dog is beautiful. There's a couple big cats at The Bronx Zoo that had to be hand raised and they brought in a dog for each of them to bond with, with the same results. The dogs are fantastic for the cats. I am glad that she has a animal friendship.

Okay, I get that. I understand that the woman wanted to do good by the cat and I don't blame her for her good heart - but it is a leopard. Luna will grow into a leopard, a very competent, strong and wily predator who is also completely solitary in nature. She will need tons of meat (I don't know where the woman is getting that? But okay...) and she will be able to kill the dog with ease if there ever is conflict. She might kill or injure the woman who is keeping her, or guests who want to come visit. Leopards are not domesticated. Dogs are the way they are because they lived alongside humans for thousands of years and turned into the perfect companion for us. They know us better than their own species, sometimes. You can't compare a dog to a leopard. So... I won't tell you what to think, but think about what kind of animal she is keeping right now, and if you don't believe me, read about it. And then decide for yourself.

for everyone saying that "Aww I pity luna she's not in the wild wah-wah" literally, the girl found her, had experience with cats, has another animal in the home, the zoo KNEW she was fit enough to raise this animal. And I bet the girl would not have taken Luna if she wasn't abandoned by her mother. I pity Luna because she was abandoned, but she is happy now. And I am guessing Luna will get fixed so that will help with the hormones. And if Luna is too out of control for the girl to handle, I am sure she will give Luna back to the zoo.

Luna is beautiful, gorgeous but she is not a pet There is a positive side to this story - it's a wonderful reminder of how sweet and loving Rotties are. Every one knows that this is a wild animal and anything can happen but I hope it doesn't. How many dog attacks have there been that are not expected that don't turn out well? I would enjoy the beauty of Luna a lot more if it were in the wild or in a good, adequate sanctuary. it's not a pet. And people already are too often too blind to what their DOGS tell them, how do you think people (not necessarily this woman, but those that say "How beautiful - I want one!" and buy a leopard from a zoo) will be able to judge if their 'pet'-leopard is in a bad mood? MOST of the dog-attacks you mention could have been prevented by people ust paying attention to body-language.

I've been reading through the comments and so many are disappointing. I'm emphatic and have so much love in my heart for this beautiful individual that rescued this gorgeous creature. Maybe the Mother didn't want the cub because of some maternal instinct that the cub had a disability. There is a parallel to humans and animals. What can happen to us in life can also be of animal life. I admire this beautiful human that had the training and means to give this precious cub Luna a home. Also in the same way we have relationships with all walks of life, who's to say that's not possible with animals. We should pause before second guessing a kind person of not being realistic. Who knows who she is, what means she is capable of giving Luna. Maybe Luna now has her own animal sanctuary with a beautiful human. I'm grateful there are still those precious souls going above and beyond to bring love, compassion and a special friendship to Venza to happen. It's a loving relationship between two very different animals, and that's the true amazing things to focus on, about this story. I'm an animal lover and took in a baby goat, the mother did the same. We use to rock and bottle feed him. Bucket and my Son were best friends, he died at 10 months old because of a neurological problem. He was loved. God bless this whole very unlikely family and watch over them. This story was one of LOVE. Don't judge, be grateful there are empathic souls out there. Stole my heart! Just love!

Lovely photos, but this is not okay. Even if the owner is experienced with big cats, exotic pets are a bad idea. This is not a domesticated animal, it should not be in a house, or a car, or used for pretty photos. It should have been rehabilitated for release in its natural habitat, or if this was not possible, a nature reserve, or big-cat sanctuary. Buying an exotic animal to keep it as a pet is not saving it, it's selfish, and even if the woman is well-meaning, it's dangerous, and possibly cruel, if she isn't as expert in caring for big cats as she claims.
I have to agree with you. Although Luna is beautiful, keeping a wild animal as a pet is never a good idea, because you can never fully domesticate them. I feel sorry for Luna.

This is just a baby still. Luna will turn into an adult cat and she will change from "cute and cuddly" to demanding and hormonal. She might see the dog as a competitor for food or she might see doggy as food itself or she might be so confused that she'd see the dog as a mate, even. Neither of that is good for the dog. Or Luna, for that matter.

If you just go and check the daily videos you will see the big cat has free walks, animal friend, doesnt live in a cage and is in excellent health physically and mentally. There is no zoo or sanctuary which can provide such care and love . Even in San Diego zoo where cub cheetahs are hand raised by humans in fact don't enjoy such freedom as Luna. The fact that this woman decided to dedicate her life to the black cat is obvious . I love Luna is in the best hands possible. Keep up the excellent family and ignore all those naysayers . They are being exploited. Such a life for this cat is the best outcome of events. Believe me...
She has done the right thing. A baby bonded to humans even if taken early to a park will not be accepted by another panther pride. Releasing into wild with no pack nor hunting skills mean certain death. The panther is beautifully bonded and socialized and has animal companionship a secure home nutrition and a genuine life. This is not being treated as a pet or exotic pet. It’s a human bonded panther who is happy healthy and beautifully cared for. Well done! Because I want to go there. The planet I live on has endangered wildlife in literally every corner due to human activities on every level: corporate, governments, and individuals. If you really care so much about wildlife being wild and free, I hope you are advocating strongly for the environment and against trophy hunting and killing wildlife for fun and sport and even doing so for entertainment on television. Absolutely Beautiful story. Luna is where she belongs, and receives the attention love compassion nutrition and companionship she needs. Bonding with a big cat has happened time after time with great outcomes for cat and human. Thank you for this editorial and photos, and the feeling in my heart because of your work.
I see the comments about it not being fair to Luna because she is a wild animal, but she was rejected as a baby and raised by a human. This human has the knowledge and the love to raise this beautiful creature. Ideally no a wild animal should remain wild, but in Lunas case I doubt she could ever survive any other way. I bet if we could ask Luna she would tell us she's very happy. I truly wish Luna and her family all the best. I'm the daughter of the original cat woman, LOL. My mom and I gave taken in some many abandoned cats and dogs over the years. Sadly I lost her in 2018, but her legacy lives on with me.
I've watched most of the videos and have nothing but praise for the young couple that have saved Luna's life. Stop your criticism! None of you could do what this Lady has done. This large cat has been raised with the utmost care and it shows in her demeanour and calm gentle personality. This was an exceptional case and this couple has had to make some changes, at least for the next 15 years. Putting Luna into a "Sanctuary" would be cruel and unusual punishment. Well, I have read most of the comments on Luna and it seems to me that 80% of the contributees are incorrect. Luna is now a fully fledged mature cat and noting has changed in her character. Also, Luna is not being raised by one woman, it is her and her partner who have raised this kitten into a beautifully natured adult. I have the tendency thinking of wild horses who are actually fierce fighters especially when it comes to the mating season and stallions. Now, those horses are truly wild but can be domesticated to which I think Luna is of the same situation only better as she doesn't know of any other situation. People say the exact same story of wolves that can not be domesticated, well they can be the best of pets and I know that first hand. A friend raised a lone cub that was not much larger than a man's hand. This beautiful male wolf (neutered) grew into the most lovable adult and adored by all.

The lady provided life-saving care for the small leopard, and clearly gives the cat a very loving environment. And a best friend to boot! Of course nobody should just take such a tremendous responsibility on if there's any doubt. But your comment smacked of just plain hating!
I don’t see what the problem is. The panther seems happy and to be well taken care They are being poached in the wild. Can you imagine that beautiful panther being killed for its coat or fake medicine? This panther jumps in trees and has a lot of room to run and play. Are you sure you are not just jumping on the bandwagon ? Now Orcas belong in the Ocean and there is no way they can be captive. There is a huge difference.

I can understand the concern of people over this situation but if the woman has professional experience working with big cats this is going to be the best situation for the leopard to live. They wouldn't be able to release her into the wild even in her native habitat.
My god! !!! Luna lives the best life you miserable people will never know. She's safe, she's fed, she's the whole forest to hunt and play. Most importantly she's loved! Not every animal can be released into the wild, that doesnt mean the animal cant lead a full and happy life!! And if you bothered your asses you'd know the family lives in the house near the forest in Siberia where Luna regularly runs free. She's a full grown panther, not a cub like shown on the pictures. Ok ok I read more into this and apparently she got Luna from a 'zoo on wheels' in Russia. Their rules about exotic pets are different then in other countries, so that may be why they were so willing to give Luna to that woman. Also according to her, she didn't want to give Luna back to the zoo in fear that she would be mistreated in one of those 'zoo on wheels'. I'm not saying it's ok, but the rules are different there and if anything, I'm just glad that the panther wasn't left to die

This cat is with someone who has experience and is super happy with it's rottweiler brother. She has a huge backyard and as we can see through the videos she gets tons of exercise. The cat has an exceptional life.

Many comments display disagreement with this wonderful woman and her husband's efforts in raising a panther as a cub abandoned by its mother. On the legitimate grounds that exotic animals should not be kept as pets. However, the woman didn't actively set out to purchase a panther on a whim, but acted out of sincere concern for a cub that would have died while in captivity w/o human intervention. With humans encroaching more and more on shrinking habitats for such animals, it's our responsibility to intervene when needed to ensure the survival of as many of these species, whether is captivity or in a living space with wide open spaces such as this woman has. If naysayers are so opposed to what this woman is doing then they should better spend their time in addressing the bigger and more important issue of habitat loss and mindless human population explosions that unrestrained will force all existing species to become extinct due to habitat loss.
I see no difference between a handler at a zoo and this woman who is experienced. Actually I think this woman is better for Luna than a zoo. The space Luna gets the room is bigger than any zoo I've been to offers. Both panther and rottweiler look healthy which is a sign of a very responsible owner. Any domesticated dog or cat can be dangerous, we should not kid ourselves about that. I've been bit twice by yorkies and twice by dobermans due to irresponsible owners. She has a panther walking on a leash! I can't get my domesticated cat to walk on a leash. I don't have the patience. She's got it together :-)
Can't believe how people are acting. This cat was abandoned by its mother, never taught anything about the wild. This beautiful lady gave her life to raising this cat. Doesn't look like there is any suffering to me. Be happy that she is willing to do this and help. This takes a lot of time and energy. Please follow Luna s page on Instagram and YouTube you will be amazed how Luna and Venza interact together. They are best friends and I couldn't believe that Luna is such adorable and domestic until I followed her pages. They love each other, I guess Luna thinks she is a dog coz she is so unharmful to an extent that you wouldnt believe it.

BUT I am a wildlife rehabber and i am so very grateful that this young lady has Luna! It was warranted and, indeed, indicated in this instance.

Luna is a leopard. Lions, tigers, jaguars, leopards, and snow leopards, are part of the genus panthera. Any with a black coat is considered a panther. The most common panther is the leopard and the jaguar. There are white panthers too, when their coats are white.

Guys, listen. I get that everyone is really worried that the owner and the doggo will get hurt one day, and that Luna deserves to live in the wild. But first: Luna would not have survived without a mother. Taking her in from the wild was the right thing to do. Second: this woman does have experience. “Experience with raising big cats” does NOT mean that she has bought other exotic animals, it means that she has worked with animal conservationist societies to help nurture and rehabilitate big animals. Third: animals that grow up WITHOUT a mother to teach them proper etiquette for mating and such will not have a large chance of survival, so they are mostly put in conservationist controlled forests/habitat nature reserves to live with other animals of the same species and be taken care of. I think this was the equivalent of that, since Luna seems to live and play outside a lot. The woman was not being selfish, she was saving her from the zoo that was so stressful that her mom rejected her

Luna is such a gorgeous majestic cat, and her friendship with the dog is beautiful. There's a couple big cats at The Bronx Zoo that had to be hand raised and they brought in a dog for each of them to bond with, with the same results. The dogs are fantastic for the cats. I am glad that she has a animal friendship.

Okay, I get that. I understand that the woman wanted to do good by the cat and I don't blame her for her good heart - but it is a leopard. Luna will grow into a leopard, a very competent, strong and wily predator who is also completely solitary in nature. She will need tons of meat (I don't know where the woman is getting that? But okay...) and she will be able to kill the dog with ease if there ever is conflict. She might kill or injure the woman who is keeping her, or guests who want to come visit. Leopards are not domesticated. Dogs are the way they are because they lived alongside humans for thousands of years and turned into the perfect companion for us. They know us better than their own species, sometimes. You can't compare a dog to a leopard. So... I won't tell you what to think, but think about what kind of animal she is keeping right now, and if you don't believe me, read about it. And then decide for yourself.

for everyone saying that "Aww I pity luna she's not in the wild wah-wah" literally, the girl found her, had experience with cats, has another animal in the home, the zoo KNEW she was fit enough to raise this animal. And I bet the girl would not have taken Luna if she wasn't abandoned by her mother. I pity Luna because she was abandoned, but she is happy now. And I am guessing Luna will get fixed so that will help with the hormones. And if Luna is too out of control for the girl to handle, I am sure she will give Luna back to the zoo.
Isn't this the same lady from an earlier post? With A LOT of other animals she cares for? Respect. I do tend to agree that big cats are not pets but this cat had more freedom than most captive cats. Every one knows that this is a wild animal and anything can happen but I hope it doesn't. How many dog attacks have there been that are not expected that don't turn out well? I would enjoy the beauty of Luna a lot more if it were in the wild or in a good, adequate sanctuary. it's not a pet. And people already are too often too blind to what their DOGS tell them, how do you think people (not necessarily this woman, but those that say "How beautiful - I want one!" and buy a leopard from a zoo) will be able to judge if their 'pet'-leopard is in a bad mood? MOST of the dog-attacks you mention could have been prevented by people ust paying attention to body-language.

I'm emphatic and have so much love in my heart for this beautiful individual that rescued this gorgeous creature. Maybe the Mother didn't want the cub because of some maternal instinct that the cub had a disability. There is a parallel to humans and animals. What can happen to us in life can also be of animal life. I admire this beautiful human that had the training and means to give this precious cub Luna a home. Also in the same way we have relationships with all walks of life, who's to say that's not possible with animals. We should pause before second guessing a kind person of not being realistic. Who knows who she is, what means she is capable of giving Luna. Maybe Luna now has her own animal sanctuary with a beautiful human. I'm grateful there are still those precious souls going above and beyond to bring love, compassion and a special friendship to Venza to happen. It's a loving relationship between two very different animals, and that's the true amazing things to focus on, about this story. I'm an animal lover and took in a baby goat, the mother did the same. We use to rock and bottle feed him. Bucket and my Son were best friends, he died at 10 months old because of a neurological problem. He was loved. God bless this whole very unlikely family and watch over them. This story was one of LOVE. Don't judge, be grateful there are empathic souls out there. Stole my heart! Just love!

You saying that this panther is very different than a wild animal, is just plain ignorance. People need to stop romanticizing the idea of keeping a wild animal as a pet.
