This is a story of a man but not just any man this is the story of Jimbo Darnell, my father. My father was man of many things but a good person was not one of them I wish I could say my dad was a soldier who was highly decorated, who was a honorable person, a truthful father but this is not the case. Dad would always tell me when I was little that he would get better and that he would be at the next birthday or that he would come visit for Christmas and that he had money so we could spend a whole day together but those days never came because dad had a problem, a heroin addiction. Sadly after my dad had joined the army after three years of service my dad was court martialed and was sentenced four years for use of illegal drugs while on duty. Dad spent those 10 years waiting to get out to see a girl, a good girl that he was madly in love with but two months after his release and four years clean news had reached my dad that Jessica had been raped and killed by a man she owed money to. This of course sent my dad into a deep state of depression which of course with no one to look to for advice my dad began to do drugs again I did not learn that she had died until recently and that he did began to drugs again I was dealing with my abusive foster parents at the time this news was not able to reach me so after not hearing of my dad’s whereabouts I assumed he was dead being the naive child I was this caused me spiral out of control and I started getting in trouble with the law. News later reached my dad and he had finally contacted me telling and lying saying he was okay and was healthy and safe this of lie of course got me through a few more years. Skip forward five years. I’m 14 years old now and my dad out of the blues calls and says that he needs help I listen to what he has to say and after a few months of talking and me convincing him to go to therapy my dad is now a christian clean for over a year now has a loving wife me and his new born. The moral of my father’s story is that you should take your time with your problems and think your way through a situation so that other can help you and so you can help yourself. Sincerely J.S.T.
