Owner Tired Of Rude Customers Puts Up Genius Bar Sign To Teach Them A Lesson, And It Works Instantly
Roanoke coffee shop owner Austin Simms was fed up with rude customers so he decided to do something about it.
“I decided because I need to solve all the injustices of the world to start charging more for people who didn’t take the time to say hello and connect and realize we’re all people behind the counter,” Simms told WDBJ. So he put up a sign in front of his coffee shop indicating their new pricing policy. To his surprise, the sign went viral with a bunch of cameras showing up and it ended up in the newspaper! Keep on scrolling to check it out.

I know places where people on the phone are sent to the back of the line if they try to order and babble at the same time. It's amazing how fast that learning curve happens.
Load More Replies...Outstanding! It helps promote civility, this should be applied everywhere. However, this does not "solve all the injustices of the world". For that, you need to wear a suit with a big "S" on it. ;D
The best part of politeness - it is free. It costs nothing. Your please, your thank could actually save a life, literally. Have an awesome day further. :-)
Load More Replies..."Please" and "thank you" should be automatic. Mom drummed good manners into me and my brother, and we have done the same with our kids. When my son was in high school, he told me that he ordered a coffee from the student cafe, and the girl behind the counter said, "You're the first person who's said 'please' all day!"
ImfromAlabama...if I didn't use my manners I got spanked.....yes ma'am and yes sir we're for everyone.....even total strangers.....
Load More Replies...Veeeery old. Some café in Italy did this 4 years ago and I'm not even sure if they started it.
Load More Replies...You're clearly not going to get a discount with that attitude.
Load More Replies...I love the concept, but I don't know why, I would feel weird asking "Hello, one small coffee please" because even if it's my usual way to order a coffee, it would feel like I'm trying to get it cheaper :))
Yeah, I am more introvert than not, and I don't get this. I worked customer service before and the nicest people I thought were the briefest. People that laid on the chitchat, thank yous and pleases just kind of seemed cheasy to me and insincere anyways. And now, I probably say 'small coffee' more often than some long pleasantry, but I think it is nice and I usually say it with a smile (at least I think I do). In this case, the 'please' I think is a given, if I say it, I probably mean it short for 'I've been standing here for three minutes trying to get your attention, so PLEASE can I get a coffee!?). I think politeness is important, but in a quick-service-customer relationship, all that I think is needed is a couple 'thank-yous' when you get your order. All I think is necessary is Customer: "coffee please" Cashier: "1.50" (cashier handles money, go grabs my coffee) Cashier "thank you", customer "thank you". Anything beyond that is just irritating.
Load More Replies...And for those of us who struggle with dealing with people in a face to face situation? As HFA, this sort of sign is more likely to make me take my business elsewhere. Some days, the manners my mother instilled in me have to take second place to having the energy to be able to say anything.
This is completely wrong. I am nice to people all the time but I still expect to pay what the coffee/tea is worth, not the special price for doing what everyone should do. People are sometimes arseholes, thats the way of the world. Everyone has to deal with them. You can't just charge whatever price you feel like and a different one for each person. People should be kind because that's the way they're supposed to be, NOT because of benefits they get. Also it opens it up for prejudices of other kinds.
but how to make them understand... ?? agree with ur point that just for benefits they may spit a word or respect .... but at-least they'd atleast say it ... instead of being rude or blunt. Sometimes forcing is necessary, especially when you want to teach good things to people
