Ten years ago around this time of year began my journey with painting. After telling my art teacher that I couldn’t paint through high school, at the beginning of my first semester in college, my sister was painting on the back porch and for some reason I decided to join her. I was hooked. I still didn’t think I was very good, but I loved the puzzle it presented and could see the potential to get better with practice. And did I practice!
I’ve really lost count, but I’d estimate in the last decade I’ve painted over 700 artworks. I’ve improved not just in technique but also in creativity and concept. I literally see the world in a new way in regards to color. Even more exciting, I see endless ways to continue to grow within painting, and I am looking forward to seeing what I’m working on in another decade.
