To celebrate National Burger Day, the fanatical purveyor of all things meat and bap, Robert Tame has taken a break from MD shizzle at Prime Burger to scour the globe for the craziest burgers ever to grace a face-hole. Bon appetit!

THE NAME’S BUN, JAMES BUN
Fat & Furious’s Golden Eye, burger homage to James Bond has a licence to thrill. This impressive, shiny burger comes filled with caviar, unpeeled garlic, quail’s eggs, octopus, miso and, of course, a 24 carat gold leaf covered bun atop its classy innards.
STEM CELL BURGER
Scientist Mark Post created the world’s first “ethical burger” by turning stem cells into meat. The “cultured beef” is grown from stem cells taken from a cow. The patty is then coloured with beetroot and saffron – as the stem cell strands on their own are an unappetising pasty colour. And the burger is a steal at just £220,000.
PIGEON AND WORM BURGER
The sweet chilli pigeon and worm burger comes courtesy of Rentokill, a pest control company in the UK. The burger also comes with a garnish of lovely normal cheddar cheese, so at least that’s something. Rentokill unveiled a ‘pop-up restaurant’ in London in 2013 for one day only, which served the unappealing burger along with a range of ‘exotic’ snacks, including salt and vinegar crickets, chocolate dipped ants, and BBQ mealworms.
PREMIUM KURO BURGER
Burger King astounded burger lovers everywhere when they launched the world’s first black burger in Japan – The Premium Kuro Burger. Surely the most evil-looking food to ever exist, the infamous burger comes complete with a black bun, charcoal cheese, and a noir squid-ink sauce.
THE BEERGER
Parisian artists Thomas Weil and Quentin Weisbuch dedicated themselves to creating bizarre burgers including this bad boy, The Beerger, featuring a bun made from malt, barley and hops.
GO GREEN BURGER
This leprechaun green burger is a lot more appetising than it looks. Created in France, the fresh and zingy chicken burger is made using wasabi cream cheese with green dye, cucumber, fresh mint and a lime marinated chicken patty, infused with green food colouring.
FRIED BRAIN BURGER
If there’s one thing that’s for sure, then it’s that the good old US of A know how to make a weird burger. How about a burger made from sliced calves brains? Bonafide brain food. It is exactly as it sounds – fried brains in a bun. Hailing from Ohio, some local restaurants choose to serve pigs’ brains instead of calves’, due to the fact that brains from cows over 30 months old at slaughter are no longer permitted in human food in the United States. Delicious!
WORLD’S BIGGEST CHEESEBURGER
Minnesota’s Black Bear Casino really went large with their order when they broke the Guinness Record for world’s biggest cheeseburger. Weighing more than one ton (2,014 pounds), the burger had a diamater of ten feet, and contained 60 pounds of bacon, 50 pounds of lettuce, 50 pounds of sliced onions, 40 pounds of pickles and 40 pounds of cheese.
The patty was flipped using a CRANE.
BRAIN FREEZE
Gone are the days of dodgy burger vans attended by a greasy-looking bloke at town fairs. Florida State Fair in Tampa debuted a gourmet burger offering in February – a hot bacon cheeseburger topped with ice cream coated in crushed cornflakes and deep fried. Not one for the calorie counters out there…
1000 CHEESE SLICE WHOPPER
Burger King Japan simply had to make it in to the top 10 twice, due to this absolute monstrosity. Staying true to their motto of ‘Have it your way’, Burger King sold a Whopper laden with 1000 slices of cheese to an experimental customer, whacking the calorie count up to an incredible 95,000. Talk about super-sizing.
