For those of you interested in this kind of thing, you'll want to check out WWOOF as well! I'm an experienced WWOOF-er, and let me tell you, it is brilliant! It's very similar to this, except it's in exchange for farm work. Normally you negotiate with the farmers before hand, asking how much work they expect of you, and then the rest of the day is yours to see the sights of anywhere in the world! Normally I find myself picking pears or something, but there are all kinds of farms you can choose from. I love agriculture, so this is a win-win for me. Hopefully some of you might be interested too!

It doesn't hurt to be a bit skeptical of something that sounds too good to be true. My husband and I live rent free in NYC from petsitting, but only after spending lots of time building a clientele, and actually truly loving and wanting to take care of animals. It is not for those without a passion for animal care. Additionally, it can be challenging to line up petsits. You are convincing someone to move into their home and take care of their loved one while they are away.
