33+ Inappropriately Sexy Ads
Sexuality has been employed in advertising since the beginning of advertising itself. Sexual appeals used in ads are of many types and consist of a variety of elements. They often are grounded in visual elements, such as attractive models, and may portray varying degrees of nudity and suggestiveness. Over the past two decades, the use of increasingly explicit sexual imagery in consumer-oriented print advertising has become almost commonplace.
Whether it’s good or bad – sexuality is considered one of the most powerful tools of marketing and particularly advertising. So when it comes to creating an advertisement and you don’t have too many clever ideas – always remember one general rule – sex sells.
However, a recent survey in the United Kingdom shows that about two thirds of women thought that advertisers had gone too far in using sex to sell product. Use of sexual imagery in advertising has been criticized on various grounds. Religious Conservatives often consider it obscene. Some feminists and masculists claim it reinforces sexism by objectifying the individual. Moreover, the unrealistic importance given to body image has been blamed for the poor self – esteem and unhappiness among ordinary people, particularly the youth.
On the other hand, there are many products closely related to sex, for example – condoms, lingerie, so there is probably nothing wrong with these companies using sexuality to promote their products.
Now let’s jump to the sexy ad collection, and after that – tell us what you think.

Wow! Very nice and well done ads. I like it. Thanks for sharing.
Oversized veggies and fruit = clever & funny
Sculpted Strawberry = too graphic
Eye boner, Too big, = not funny (perpetuates sexism)
Face recognitions = underage girls = child porn = sick, esp. if you are a teacher or have a teen daughter of your own.
Durex = very funny because its subtle
Skirt = bad taste and glorifying prostitution which is a sad way to make a living esp if you know someone who had to do that to survive
Donor = clever, for a good cause
woow! really very nice ads.
Eye boner and the first one…. awesome
I’d not call most of these “inappropriately” sexy given what they are selling (condoms, lubricants, etc.)
But I cannot figure out what is supposed to be happening in those Fowin ads. I’m guessing the giant pieces of fruit represent secret lovers who are hiding?
Humo, strawberry, and the “carry on” cigarettes were the only ones I found really distasteful. The “tightening gel” and donor thing, as well as the voyeur photos, were kind of pushing the limit… Everything else I thought was ok, hell, some of them (like the NY fries and second skin panties) I thought were brilliant. Eyeboner was funny but in a dumb, amateurish kind of way.
KB is obviously a woman, so disregard her comment.
Just saying, knowing Bulgarian, the FLIRT Vodka ad says
“Keeping the memories”
Nice site, though!
[...] to marketing messages. Advertisers are left with two choices: push the boundaries with even stronger messages, and probably get banned, or come up with some new ground-breaking ideas. A good way to start is to [...]
to Iammanhearmeroar:
umm really? how sexist can you be? I understand you’re probably a troll, but still. unnecessary.
and the che ad, the smoking ad, and the tightening gel were the main ones I found really offensive. The Che ad, for promoting prostitution and extreme objectification of women solely for the pleasure of men. The smoking ad, for implying that a woman giving a man a blow job is taking “rubbish” into her mouth and for slut shaming. And the tightening gel, for stating that if a woman is not “tight”, ie essentially a virgin, she is worthless and needs to fix herself.
The others, specifically the condom ads, the underwear ads, and the Playboy ad, were not “inappropriate” but were just sexual. Nothing offensive about that. As long as they don’t objectify women, there’s nothing wrong with them.
Endless joy… Thanks
Magick: Yes, the giant fruits and vegetables are hiding — and they are things the women have been inserting into their vaginas. The ad is urging the men to win their women back with better sexual performance. And it’s been put in a funny way because the fruits and vegetables are in the position of secret lovers who are hiding when the husbands come home.
sex sells was for diesel
