We all have little habits we’ve outgrown… or at least thought we did. Psychologists believe we all develop subtle coping patterns to deal with stress, conflict, and uncomfortable emotions. Some of us channel our energy into intense goals. Others prefer to focus on the bright side of things. None of these are “good” or “bad” — they’re simply different ways our minds protect us.

Today we’ll be looking at different choices you make – whether it be TV shows, or your behavior in certain situations. If you’re honest enough, by the end, you’ll learn what psychological defense mechanism is the most prominent in your brain.

Aargh. The logical answers to many of these questions aren't available and none of the offered answers comes close to how I react.

Sublimation, however, no option to tell the queue cutter that I’m not there for decoration, and get tf behind me.

There should be an option for that! My go-to is a sarcastic "yeah, because we're all standing here for the fun of it" as an opener.

"Rationalization". Just a shame how many questions were a "pick least worst". I guess that in itself is rationalisation...

On one question, I had never watched any of the shows, so I just picked Betty White. One should always pick Betty White. I was watching an old detective show where her character turned out to be the m******r. And she was still the most likable character in the episode.

this is how the questions felt: You forgot to tie your shoe. Do you A- panic internally and tell the group chat, B- hum softly and try to ignore it or C- sigh and tie it whilst contemplating kitchen renovations

Displacement. Accurate - my chosen way of dealing with a lot of things is to ignore it, just do something else and forget about it.

Another one that expects me to have watched a bunch of TV shows I've either never seen a single episode of, or have never even heard of. But yeah, result is accurate; I use creativity as an outlet for my darker emotions. Rather like the guy (I forget who it was) who said "if I didn't have writing I'd be running down the street throwing grenades in people's faces".

Projection. Got to disagree because I really try to take accountability for my own mess ups, I apologise when I'm wrong or acknowledge the other person was right - I don't see being incorrect as a fault. I have many flaws but projection just isn't high on the list. I think I have a problem lack of patience, jump off the handle but give me a minute and I'll see the logic and apologise or fix it. My goal is to become more patient and less reactive.
