Twitter Remains Convinced That People Aged Faster In The Past, Continues Posting Photos That “Prove” This Theory
When Brandon McCarthy asked Twitter users whether they agree that people in the past aged faster, he didn't know he was opening Pandora's box. But what's done is done. Everyone immediately started posting pictures that support this theory, and they haven't stopped yet.
We're talking 24-year-old soccer players who look like they're going to break in half when they kick the ball, young moms and dads who could pass off as great-grandparents... Heck, someone even included Pablo Escobar in the collection. Continue scrolling and check out the most important evolutionary discovery of our age for yourself!

I remember watching Lato as a kid. He was one of the great footballers of the 70's. He had early onset male pattern baldness, but other than that he didn't look old.
Just bad haircut! Cover the top of his head and look again- its much easier to see how he's 24!
The soccer player on the left is almost a year older than the one on the right. 7759D095-A...e-jpeg.jpg
It's true, people age at different rates. Now, the attention is on what can we do about it. A geriatric epidemiologist and Canada Research Chair in Geroscience at McMaster University, Parminder Raina is leading the Canadian Longitudinal Study on Aging (CLSA), one of the largest and most in-depth studies on health and aging ever.
Its aim is to understand the factors that influence how we age and find ways to slow down, cure or even prevent age-related diseases.
That's an old picture of Brad Pitt ... he looks pretty close to his age actually
Carroll O'Connor played Archie Bunker from the ages of 47-55. He did look older than that on the show, but he was playing a certain type of character. If he had dyed his hair, lost weight, gotten hair plugs, and worn trendy clothes, he wouldn't have looked right for the part. People talk about how vain actors are, but a lot of them actually have to swallow their vanity and allow themselves to look like the characters they're hired to play.
Diet Plastic Surgery Climate Change Fashion All affect how old/fast one looks/ages.
Yeah but I mean you could also say the opposite to a lot of these- people who are the same age can look decades apart because not everyone ages the same! I mean there will also be people today who look way older than the same age in the past- its not a question of age, but of the person!
Well one drives a bus & sits in a chair and the other is Brad Pitt. Yeah, that's a fair comparison.
They didn't "age" faster, they just didn't have the easy and access to skin care/cosmetic surgery/hair products.... also, they tended to accept people for what they are instead of every magazine and TV ad telling them how they must look, every cosmetic company telling them they must fix this or that, including how their eyebrows should look, and every fashion magazine telling them how to look to be "accepted."
You weren't alive 60 years ago obviously. My mom (now in her 80s) devoured magazines like Women's Day and Chatelaine and others. Marilyn Monroe and her gorgeous movie star bombshell babes were on everyone's lips and...hair!! If poor school girls couldn't afford drug store makeup then they improvised and made their own. Cosmetics and beauty routines date back MILLENIA.
Load More Replies...Well, that's inaccurate...O'Connor was 44 when he played Archie Bunker
"We now have more centenarians than ever before, and not all of them are senile and functionally dependent," Raina said. "Many live very full lives."
According to him, understanding how we age, why we each age differently, and what causes disease and disability as we rack up the years is critical to developing programs and interventions that will promote independent and healthy living for as long as possible.
I guess the saying that “Black don’t crack.” wasn’t always accurate.
Ugh, poor guy. I've seen the photo of him still strapped to his seat on the plane. You would've thought he was only sleeping, except that he's upside down because the seat is being hoisted by the winch pulling him out of Lake Monona.
He died in a plane crash on 10 December 1967 at age 26 on his way to a show in Madison, Wisconsin with the band The Bar-Kays. Redding had a Beechcraft H18 plane, and hired a pilot to fly him and his band to their shows. No one knows why it crashed, but it went into Lake Monona in Madison, and all but one passenger died.
Load More Replies...With a team of more than 160 researchers and contributors, the CLSA is following over 50,000 randomly selected men and women between the ages of 45 and 85 over a 20-year period to understand why some people live longer than others. The biggest funders of this project are the Canadian Institutes of Health Research (CIHR), the Canada Foundation for Innovation, the Ontario Ministry of Research and Innovation, and other participating provinces.
He was 51 when the movie was released, so, yeah. Something must be in the water
In order to look the part, Brimley bleached his hair and moustache to turn them gray, and had wrinkles and liver spots drawn on his face. Granted, he probably looked older than his years but he was also aged for the role.
Load More Replies...Seriously, I have no memories of him ever being young.

"We know that the changes in our body that come with aging represent a common risk factor for disease," Raina said. "What we learn from this could tell us a lot about how chronic inflammation is linked to cancer, heart disease and Alzheimer's disease; how responses to stress can accelerate aging and risk of disease; how work history and wealth contribute to our health and well-being; and more."
What a time to be alive! Now all we have to do is stick around until we get the results and who knows, maybe you and I will be able to add a few extra birthdays to our calendars.
Going by his stubble, that's most likely his actual hair color. You can sure a beard, even a short one, but stubble like that?
Load More Replies...No one can compete against Ralph Macchio when it comes to not aging, so that's not really a fair comparison.
Only because Morita has grey hair. Without the hair, he'd probably look younger than Ralph.
He always looked young for his age. He played a teen when he was already pushing 30.
Hey, that's not fair! Ralph Maccio has one of those SUUUUUPER young looking faces. He was like 60 when he played a teen in the Karate Kid movies.
omg I said the exact same thing before I read this
Load More Replies...I think this may not be dated correctly. He was born in 1901 and was in Gone With the Wind in 1939. He didn’t look this old in that movie.
Agreed, looks like it could be the 40's. But in Teacher's Pet, he looks like hell.
Load More Replies...Many, many smoked and those that didnt were still around it. Super ages you
Try to imagine him without the moustache and some fresh hairstyle...a hottie❤️
It really is how they dressed and styled their hair. Look at them both: If you removed his glasses and put him in more modern clothes with a more modern hairstyle, he would fit in with 40-somethings in our period.
Thank You!!!! Exactly What I was sayin earlier!!!!!! <3
Load More Replies...The difference is in the style of clothes, gray hair, hairstyles, that make them look different than people in their 40s today. . They look super happy and beautiful!
Not sure why you are getting downvoted. Most people in their 40s around that time WERE indeed grandparents. Everything kinda happened earlier for folks and couples tended to get married right after high school/in college.
Load More Replies...Women would flock to the the ice rinks and throw their panties at the "Duke". Later on, men became so enamored they would throw their hats. And that, ladies and gentlemen, is the origin of the hat trick!
Actually this is one of those meme babies with drawn-on eyebrows, all grown up.
I didn't believe it either so I went searching. It is absolutely true! He was born in 1925 and Goldfinger was released in 1964, shortly before his 40th birthday! I am astonished at this one. And I shouldn't be such a Doubting Thomas.
Load More Replies...Even his hands look like an older person. I would have guessed he was in his late 50’s or early 60’s.
It's the glasses and the hair style we associate with older people.
What this picture shows us is exactly the glasses and hairstyle those older people wore when they were young and felt they looked good. If you take the time to really look, there are a lot of people whose age you can pretty much accurately guess just by looking at their hairstyle, clothing, and makeup choices, which they haven’t changed since the last time they felt they were at their peak attractiveness—-even if it was 1965. Or 1985. Or, at some point in the future, 2020.
Load More Replies...once again, thats not the point. Are you scared of getting old or something?
Load More Replies...Each of us has some not-flattering picture and this is one of them. Lets be fair ;)
For me that would be just about every photo. I am not photogenic at all.
Load More Replies...she looks just like a friend of mine. Probably didn't change much as she aged though
She actually does look early 20s, if you focus on her face and not the glasses or hair.
This hurts the overall argument... that was only 12 years ago. He's much younger than most of the people used here as examples of defying age.
I think that's Greg Oden, I've actually seen him at nightclubs here in Cols, he doesn't seem too old there, just really tall, he's around 7 foot.
He died at 30 because of a plane crash. Not because he was ill or something.
Shave off the moustache and also cut his hair a bit shorter. I think he'll look pretty much on the mark of 30 then
I once read an interview with his widow, where she said that after seeing this picture, he realized he was exhausted and burned out from spending so much time on the road and needed to take a break. He was at the end of his tour and about to head home for some time off when he died in that plane crash.
Kate Johnson those are really harsh, baseless, and insulting words about him. Do you have the pre-conceived notion that all musicians in the 60s and 70s were drugged out party animals? Had you even heard of him or music? You weren’t even born back then. This is Jim Croce not Jim Morrison. He earned a Bachelor’s Degree from Villanova University with a major in psychology and a minor in German. He was married with a child. He always volunteered for the Army National Guard. He was a gentle, sensitive, artist, and musician who made this world a better place with his music, heart, and voice.
He was a sensitive, talented poet and musician. His song “Operator” goes straight to the heart.
Jerry was also a noncompliant diabetic. They age very quickly.
Why was this comment downvoted?? I upvoted just to bring it back to 0. And no, I'm not a big GD fan. I just don't see anything wrong with the comment.
Load More Replies...He aged super fast. Amazing how he managed to make it to his 50s.
It's unfair to compare to Paul Rudd though. He hasn't aged since Clueless (like 25 years ago).
You should see the painting of Paul Rudd that he hides in his attic. That thing looks ancient.
Load More Replies...Another unfair one. Paul Rudd is actually 100 years old, but you would never guess it!
People now take better care of themselves throughout their life. I am 71 and look considerably younger than my parents who died in their 60s. My parents lived a hard life -- living through the Great Depression, working unbelievably long hours later generations refused to work. Times have changed for the better in my lifetime. At nearly 72 I have more energy than my parents did in their 60s. Our nutrition is better, work hours are shorter, retirement is possible while we can still enjoy it. Our parents lived through some horrific times of poverty and war we have not had to experience. And it is because they sacrificed for us that we are so privileged and healthy. It isn't as if they didn't want to live. Times were hard then. My dad was 42, mom 35 when I was born in 1948. The baby boomer generation was the first of the lucky ones and we show it.
Yep, and he probably just finished off a pint of whiskey and a pack of unfiltered cigarettes.
More like a pack of whiskey and a pint of cigarettes.
Load More Replies...That long grey hair that men like to wear really ages them.... if you added the ponytail they think is youthful.... you would add another 20 years to the look!
Back then women used to use curlers in their hair, which is what old women use today so to use it looks like they're aged. If she wore her hair straight or got it styled differently she probably looks her age.
You can see here (presuming the woman is 20) that people age at different rates, he looks around 20 and she looks 22-25
IT's justs fashion that makes them look older. Their faces irradiate youth
Dead since the mid 2000s. I believe he had cancer, died in his early 40s.

I vote you look 10 years younger than you’re radio operating twin.
You look 20 years younger than him. He looks about 60.0r 63.
Not really a fair comparison. I think Sarah got hit in the face with a frying pan when she was younger.
A lot of sexist pigs in this post. It’s supposed to be about people from the past. No need for your misogyny.
Being hate and having to deal with unimaginable stupidity on a daily basis does take its tool. Plus lying so much also ages a person.
steady diet of deep fried livermush, corndogs and pure evil will age you for sure.
Not a fair comparison. . Anne Hathaway has a cushy pampered actors life. Sanders is constantly attacked by those many of those pampered actors. Sanders is also married with children where Hathaway is not. Sanders is also married with children where Hathaway is not. Not the same comparison.
Hathaway lives in an unreal world full of other actors that "act" like they are smart and "act" like they know things and they actually believe the bologna they dish out. What a bunch of idiot actors and sheep!
Load More Replies...To be fair, if you look him up, he started the show with his hair and beard brown/black, and he looked his age. Pictures of him 20+ years later make him look younger than this, too, so I'm thinking this was mostly for his character/acting persona at the time.
Looking at the picture, he does appear to have dark roots. Yes it does look like they added a little snow on top so he's look more like a contemporary to Fred; Redd Foxx.
Load More Replies...John Candy looks about 37 if not a bit younger, and Steve Martin's hair has been that color since he was 12.
Steve always looked older than he was just because his hair was so white! His face shows a young man
Everybody oughta wear sunscreen... it's all I can think about looking at these photos.
He basically drank (and drugged w/pills, IIRC) himself to death--he died in his sleep in the back seat of the car while being driven to another gig.
Hank doesn't look very old there at all. Big smile line don't make someone look old, just means he's smilin'. He looks like a nice young hick, to me--somebody who'd tip his hat and blush as he says ma'am to the ladies. :-D
Im sure he knew the golden rule: don't get high on your own supply...

At this point, isn't that just regular Adam Sandler
Load More Replies...Actually doesn't look too bad for 28, just a crazy dude.
Doesn't fit the title age no issue here. More about weight and styling!
I think black and white photos and hairstyles we associate with older people make her look older than 15.
Load More Replies...I think the old fashioned hairdos make them look way older than they are
If you cover her hairdo, she looks 15. Young people wore the same hairstyles as older folks.
Sting once said, that without Sex Pistols today every rocker would be look like just like this...
Yeah but the Sex Pistols just made everyone look more heroin'y.

It's true. Missing teeth will cause premature ageing because the face sinks and lines develop.
Load More Replies...Nope they're Godfathers. (I'm gonna just show myself out.)
Load More Replies...Not mine, still looks as he did playing Danny Zucco, just an older version (naturally). Yes, there is traces of face filler, but which modern older celebrity hasn't had at least one of those? Update: I'm not sure why this comment has duplicated, original was in reply to @Falcon

Ah yes. Nothing better to laugh at on a cloudy Saturday afternoon than the total inability of large numbers of people to understand the difference between what constitutes "proof " and meaningless conclusions..
Honestly he looks younger if anything. Like a cute but skinny, slightly nerdy looking teenage boy.
Load More Replies...Not to be rude, but it's a fact that your ears and nose keeps growing through your lifetime. I'd really like to see a picture of this guy in his later years.
The satellite dishes attached to his temples make him look out of date
That was useful, when he was playing both young and old version of Shawn´s dad in Psych and the only difference was the wig. It was even joked about it in one episode, where Shawn said: slap a wig on you and you are the spitting image of yourself when i was a kid.
Load More Replies...Yeah, active every five games. Major League pitchers aren't really thought of as the peak of athleticism. Dude was 64 years old in this picture.
Looking just like my father, both in the face features and in the period of time this was taken (I presume in the sixties..)
It's genetics. Why does almost every single picture here have a comment asking some caveat? Genetics.
Stephen Miller is 37 in Vampire years. He's 953 in human years.
Being that racist really does take a toll on you, plus the dude is hideous and bald to boot.
That's Joe McCarthy. He was the manager for the NY Yankees from 1931-1946. He was born in 1887.
I think we just associate certain styles with being old because our parents/grandparents wore them and we think of them as adult even in old pics. Also a lot of these people were aged by smoking, drinking or drug problems. Being grey or bald early is going to automatically make people think you're older too.
Exactly. Plus a lot of people, women especially, use sunscreen and much better moisturizers than they had access to back then. And even though Judy Garland was a movie star, she had lived a crappy life with substance abuse and she was on her 4th husband by the time she was 45.

You may not be that far off the truth. Apparently, corpses now take longer to decompose than they used to and that is given as the reason.

I think at least in some of these cases it's just the old-fashioned hairstyle and clothes that make these people look older in the eyes of today's beholder. With colored hair, styled in modern fashion and in modern clothes, they would look their age to us too.
I think we're alot more health conscious now. I mean, didn't a cigarette come with a McDonald's meal back in the 50's? 🤣🤣
Maybe they weren't getting old early, but this generation is growing up late.
How many of these "modern" photos are of people who are, in fact, NOT the same age as claimed? Or are photoshopped, airbrushed, botox'd, dyed, injected, and so forth? B/c without it? I can tell ya from personal experience of three "names" in Hollywood who look way older than their (alleged) age... If you see 'em on the street, instead of in publicity shots.
Back in the day the women had those glamour shots with perfect skin. That's because they specially processed the pics. There were devices that vibrated a table in the developer that would make the skin look smooth (it's the exact same as adding gaussian blur in Photoshop) while making the eyes and mouth so they'd stay sharp. They also used low contrast filters to help out the same way, plus the lenses weren't as sharp. Faking glamour shots has been done since the Golden Age of Hollywood, if not before.
