I remember watching Lato as a kid. He was one of the great footballers of the 70's. He had early onset male pattern baldness, but other than that he didn't look old.

Yeah but I mean you could also say the opposite to a lot of these- people who are the same age can look decades apart because not everyone ages the same! I mean there will also be people today who look way older than the same age in the past- its not a question of age, but of the person!

They didn't "age" faster, they just didn't have the easy and access to skin care/cosmetic surgery/hair products.... also, they tended to accept people for what they are instead of every magazine and TV ad telling them how they must look, every cosmetic company telling them they must fix this or that, including how their eyebrows should look, and every fashion magazine telling them how to look to be "accepted."

I think this may not be dated correctly. He was born in 1901 and was in Gone With the Wind in 1939. He didn’t look this old in that movie.

It really is how they dressed and styled their hair. Look at them both: If you removed his glasses and put him in more modern clothes with a more modern hairstyle, he would fit in with 40-somethings in our period.

The difference is in the style of clothes, gray hair, hairstyles, that make them look different than people in their 40s today. . They look super happy and beautiful!

You can't take a still from a movie and put it up as real, with make up and hair styling suitable to the age/role they are playing, pretty unreliable.

Makeup is probably used to make a person look older than they are.
