This Page “Why You Should Have A Duck” Is Dedicated To All Things Ducks And Here Are 35 Of The Best Posts
When it comes to popular pets around the globe, it’s not surprising that dogs are the most common, followed closely by cats, then fish and birds. Among the birds people frequently adopt into their families, parakeets, cockatiels, finches, lovebirds and parrots are some favorites. But might I suggest another bird you may have never even considered taking as a pet? The duck.
One Twitter account is determined to convince followers why they should have a duck; in fact, that’s exactly the name of their page. Why You Should Have A Duck has over 440k followers and is famous for sharing adorable photos of ducks that just might make you want to adopt one. We’ve gathered all of our favorite tweets of theirs for you to enjoy, and even spoke to the owners of two of Instagram's most famous ducks, Ben Afquack and Gertrude of MyPetDucks, to hear what it’s really like to have one as a pet.
Then if you’re interested in even more silly bird photos after finishing this list, we’ve got the perfect Bored Panda piece for you to check out next right here.

oooh, yes! I would gladly have a duck hug! (bonus points for added cat hug)
A sunflower when its not so sunny to brighten your day, just like a duck would brighten your day.
She's holding that duckling like a toy. It's uncomfortable to look at.
Ok, whilst ducks are gorgeous, cute and everything <3... This unfortunately is encouraging people to impulse buy. Yes, some may just simply think 'cute!' but others go out and buy a duck without any knowledge, education, supplies or any idea! Ducks require a lot of things and can be quite messy (I know from experience, I work at a place with chickens, ducks, geese, etc.). So please, be legit and ready for a long-term experience with a duck. And dont buy just because of things you see on the net!!
Yes, this. I just got two ducklings and they are the cutest things ever, but I did a lot of research and know that I can accommodate their needs. For one thing, I have a fairly big natural garden that they'll get to roam once grown up. And I would never keep them inside nor recommend doing so (alright, right now the little ones *do* live inside, at least at night, but I made them a little pen lined with straw)). Birds in general poop a *lot*, and ducks in particular make big, big mess while eating - they like to wash their food down with water, so their drinking water, as well as the ground around it, turns into a slobbery mess in no time at all. They really aren't "inside" pets and I doubt they'd be truly happy with such a life! Also, at least the Indian runner duck variety "has" to be kept in a group; two is the absolute minimum.
Load More Replies...Before buying a duckling, just be aware that they squirt poop everywhere, a lot when they’re fully grown. They cannot be house trained to poop in a litter tray. They need space and water, they will splash that water everywhere. They need company, if that’s you, then it’s a full time job.
Ducks may be cute, but as someone who’s daily job is to clean the duck pen, THEY. ARE. GROSS.
I just want to know who is cleaning up after all these ducks in the pristine pictures? I had two ducks when I was a kid, outside. They are messy. Also they were both boys and when they grew up they would grab my skin and pinch hard with their bills.
So cute ducks, since I´m a veggie and have been veggie since 1985 yet I wouldn´t ever eat a duck, these birds make great pets, but you need a big garden and they need a safe stable to rest in, safe from predators like foxes and others, but also safe from stormy/rainy weather or from the heat in summer. Ducks shouldn´t be kept in a house or even in an apartment, that´s not what they need. But I think the Pandas are smart enough to know that and wouldn´t buy a pet duck because of a post like this one.
I have a duck his name is aubbo and I found him orphaned when he was a baby :) he’s very cute and he gets really big and messy sometimes. He’s adorable lol
