Same. I'm so happy for this dog. We found out too late for my Griffin (lymphoma took her two weeks after her diagnosis). They treated her for a skin condition. It didn't present like cancer until the very end.

Our little dog used to do this with my dad on Thursday nights when my dad left the legion after darts. Mom wouldn't tell her because he always left at a different time each week. But she'd just go on her own, sit at the door and sure enough he would be home in 20 minutes. One night she went to the door, sat for a few minutes, then went back to her bed. About 10 minutes later she went back to the door and sat. 20 minutes later he was home. My mom asked him if he was delayed while leaving. He said he had been coming down the stairs and met up with a friend. They stopped to talk for about 10 minutes and then he left. Yes, you are hearing the theme from the Twilight Zone.

Our dog and cats always know when we’re going to be home in a few minutes. I’ve seen them start to congregate a few minutes before I see my husband’s work truck come down the street. That’s the same time the dog starts to bark to announce it. My husband has seen them do the same for me. How they know all that is a mystery that’s been studied, and by scientific method, but has yet to be definitively solved.

Somewhere In Heaven There's A Black And White Dog Taking Care Of Seven Golden Lab Puppies

Somewhere In Heaven There's A Black And White Dog Taking Care Of Seven Golden Lab Puppies

Daisy the dog lost all seven of her puppies in a barn fire at the end of February, and wasn’t the same afterwards, spending most of her days going to the remains of the barn to look for them. Her owner posted a desperate appeal on Facebook, asking if anyone had puppies she could foster. The next day, an owner of eight orphaned puppies contacted her, and Daisy took to caring for them straight away

Our old dog came from the shelter (all do actually) but she was the official "nurse" mother to any puppies that came in. After a year of doing that they decided she should go to a good home instead of being locked up and allowed her to be adopted out. It was one of those dad doesn't want dog, then dad falls in love with dog situations. They were best friends. They both got cancer around the same time. She died and about a week later he died, even though Drs said he had at least a year. I know it was because his 4 legged girl was gone.

I had a cat do that. It was her first litter and her two kittens didn't make it through their first day. She was crying and crying and crying and it was devastating. So I asked around and found a kitten that was being bottle-fed...and my sweet girl took the kitten in immediately

No wonder people love animals. There’s plenty of evidence suggesting our adorable critters give us comfort, reduce stress, encourage exercise, and help us forget our everyday troubles. Not to mention that sharing our lives with such great companions makes us feel far less lonely and works miracles for our mental wellbeing.

Today, there are very few things people share in common as much as the love of our four-legged friends. According to a poll by YouGov, 69 percent of American adults have at least one pet in their home, and it seems that dogs, cats, and fish are the most common choice of pets.

Moreover, these animals are extremely cherished by their owners. The vast majority, 88 percent to be exact, see them as members of their family. More than a half of the respondents allow them to sleep in their own beds, plan to buy them holiday presents, and 50 percent revealed letting their pets lick their faces.

We kept having to chase away a young cat that kept coming to our house and bothering our old man cat. She apparently had an owner but the owner didn’t seem to be concerned about her ever. One very raining day she wandered into our back door, very wet and straggledy looking and instead of jumping on our old cat or him trying to fend her off with a hiss, he just sidled up to her, put his arm (paw?) around her and started licking her off, while she snuggled in. Decision made - she became our new kitty.

I didn't know this was actually a thing. We took in a stray but he would leave every morning when I left for work. One day I came home and opened my door. "Bailey" exited and an identical cat rushed into my house and took his place in front of the food bowl. I had no idea I was taking care of two different cats until this day.

We adopted a kitten sibling pair. It's fascinating how they split things... Each has their favorite humans, their favorite spots in the house... They spend a lot of time outside on their own adventures, to great displeasure of local rodent population.

It's a run lead, not a chain. If people don't have fences/gates on their property they're often used to let the dog run around and exercise without risk of it running away/onto a road, etc. (more common in countries like the US than in the UK where our gardens are usually fenced in) By the look of love in that dogs eyes, he gets lots of cuddles and love back!

It’s a run lead. Basically a really long leash that people will put in their backyards if they don’t have a fence so that they can let their dogs run around outside. We have two for our dogs that we use in the summer (for short periods of time only)

When it comes to the main reasons Americans decide to get a furry house friend in the first place, having company, providing a nice home, and hoping they would improve their mental health were some of the top ones. Plus, more than a third mentioned they got a pet because their partner or family member simply wanted one.

While we appreciate the joy animals bring into our lives, we catch ourselves wondering: how did we get the pets we have? Although pets have adjusted to us, our behaviors, and our emotions, it was not always like that.

Horses are so empathic... when one passes of age we always let the others say goodbye and mourn. A foal dying is worse; mom needs to see, mourn, and process it, and it's heartbreaking to see.. it messes me up as a mom. They scream just like we do, trying to get their baby to wake up.

I love how animals have a "you're hurt? Let me help" instinct. Not only dogs, but cats too. I had a breakdown and there was a pair of scissors nearby; I was about to relapse into things I shouldn't. But before I could do anything, my cat, who is sweet but not very cuddly, popped up. For fifteen minutes or so he sat in my lap, nuzzling my arm and purring. I am so glad to have that cat in my life.

To find out how the domestication of animals works, we reached out to Lee Dugatkin, Ph.D., an evolutionary biologist and a historian of science at the University of Louisville. "Ever wonder how our ancestors turned wild animals into the pets that play such an important part in our everyday life? An experiment in Russia, now in its 62nd year, is helping us understand," he told Bored Panda.

"In the late 1950s, Dmitry Belyaev, a brilliant Russian geneticist, came up with an idea for how to replay the evolutionary process that led to the domestication of dogs from wolves, but sped up and using foxes instead of wolves," he explained. The experiment that began in 1960 took place in Novosibirsk, the largest city in Siberia.

Dugatkin noted that this groundbreaking project continues to this day "under the watchful guidance of Belyaev’s student, Lyudmila Trut," who recently celebrated her 88th birthday. "Each year, she and her team test hundreds of foxes, selecting only the tamest —the most prosocial toward humans—to parent the next generation."

PLEASE PLEASE support donkey rescues! Because of absolutely ridiculous, outdated and erroneous stereotypes and "jokes" about donkeys/mules ... rescues attempting to assist and save these amazing animals are often "laughed at " when seeking financial support. As hard as it is to secure funding for any animal rescue, its SO much harder to fundraise for donkeys! As people here and the photo have noted, these animals are very affectionate, loyal and smart. Still -people imagine that they are "lazy or stubborn" or unworthy of our care -- they are even ABUSED in the name of these awful and wrong stereotypes. So PLEASE HELP if you can. One very large US donkey/mule rescue is called Peaceful Valley Donkey Rescue with satellite locations in VA and a few other states. There are others..... just PLEASE HELP! Overcoming these hurdles on top of Covid and supply chain issues .... these animals are really suffering and in desperate need of help! NO amount is too small! THANKS!

Dugatkin and Trut tell the whole story of this experiment in their book How to Tame a Fox (and Build a Dog): Visionary Scientists and a Siberian Tale of Jump-Started Evolution, which is full of science, political intrigue, and tales of love. "In a nutshell, what the Russian team has done is create domesticated foxes that will lick your ears and melt your hearts with their devotion and love," he explained.

It's hard to imagine that somewhere in the beautiful yet harsh Siberia, you would be able to find furry foxes that are as friendly as our beloved canines. "Incredibly, even though Lyudmila and her colleagues select the parents of each generation strictly on how behaviorally tame foxes are, their domesticated foxes look eerily like dogs," Dugatkin added. "Within a decade (ten fox generations), some of the foxes had floppy ears and curly tails."

This Mother Cat Has Taken In An Abandoned Baby Possum

My neighbor's black cat had kittens and they found a baby possum on their deck that must have fallen off of its mom. The mama cat took it in as one of her kittens, but she doesn’t understand why this little funny kitten hangs on her all the time. At this point in time we need to be more like the animals, take care of each other in their time of need.

My Foster Dog Had Never Been Indoors Before. This Is Her First Nap, On A Bed, In A Home

My Foster Dog Had Never Been Indoors Before. This Is Her First Nap, On A Bed, In A Home

Sundae was taken from a dog hoarding situation — one man had 16 dogs (and a deceased dog’s body) in his backyard. The dogs had access only to a junk-filled backyard and a garage for shelter. We’ve had her for about a week and you would never know that she’s never been an indoor dog before. She’s totally potty trained, incredibly gentle and she’s very polite indoors. She loves to sleep as close as possible to me in bed — I think she’s just making up for 8ish years of zero affection.

I have a rescue doggo that I helped pull from a very similar situation along with over 50 other dogs. Even in as rough shape as he was in, he was comforting the smaller dogs in the crate with him while we were doing the rescue. He has been with me ever since and is the best dog I could ever ask for.

It also looks like she’s getting the first truly good deep sleep she’s ever had, because she knows she’s well fed, warm, and safe with you. When dogs don’t feel safe, even if they sleep really lightly and spring up fully awake and ready to defend themselves at every sound.

"By the end of the second decade, they had mottled fur patterns and dog-like faces and bodies. And these foxes are as good as dogs at following human gaze," the evolutionary biologist said. What makes this experiment particularly fascinating is that domestication of certain animal species took thousands of years, and this experiment managed to have surprising results in just a few decades.

I had a cat who guarded a bird that had knocked itself out on a window. I went out and sat with him and the bird. The cat was clearly worried and needed to be reassured. When the bird recovered enough to be lifted onto a branch, he was SO relieved.

Dugatkin continued: "If all of that were not enough to make us humans fall head-over-heels for these remarkable creatures, they also laugh. Indeed, a number of the vocalizations the domesticated foxes make are more similar to human laughs than the sounds produced by any other species," he told Bored Panda.

He concluded by saying that all of these incredible changes toward a pet-like animal "occurred in mere sixty-plus years. Who knows what changes lay in store as the experiment steams into its seventh decade?"

I had a stroke, well lots of them both sides of the brain. They let my dog come in everyday. My husband would help BonBon up and then put my paralyzed harnd/arm on her. You can't have your hand on a pet a nd not give it a scratch. It took a couple of weeks but I got my movement back. Dogs are...are...we don't deserve them. Bless x

I don't understand this. They can figure out how to have other necessary medical equipment. Studies have shown over and over the positive impact of animals on healing and prognoses. Why can't they figure out how to have animal therapy provided to those who opt for it?

Regardless, there's always hope, and I have osteoarthritis, and I've heard from most.older.folks that their knees and back are bad, and extra weight can make that so.much worse. So just for your knees and their longevity, it's worth trying your best to. (: You can also be healthy with a belly though, people forget that.

An Autistic Boy, Who Can't Be Touched, Connects With A Service Dog, As His Mom Bursts Into Tears Of Hope And Joy

An Autistic Boy, Who Can't Be Touched, Connects With A Service Dog, As His Mom Bursts Into Tears Of Hope And Joy

I'm not sure why, but people still ask us why we place service dogs with children sometimes. Let me help you understand, from a momma who knows first hand:
See this moment? I've never experienced a moment like this.
This picture was taken near the end of the day after my autistic five-year-old was finally able to sit down with his new Service Dog Tornado. He flew across the entire ocean, stopped in multiple states, and uprooted his entire routine to travel the globe for this. He was so overwhelmed through the day that he had to leave to take a break for a couple hours before he could come back. This boy is the strongest child I have ever met; he has faced countless rude and ignorant adults and children who do not understand him, who have hurt him, and who have not valued him because he is different. This picture captures the face of a mother who saw her child, who she can't hug, wash, dress, snuggle and touch freely lay on his new Service dog of his own free will, with a purposeful unspoken attachment. This is the face of a mom who has seen her son experience countless failed social interactions on the playground in an attempt to have a friend. Any friend. Any kind of connection. She has sat with her son while he has cried at night for months because he has no consistent connections outside of the family no matter how hard he tries and no matter what he works hard on in his Autism therapies. It doesn't transfer to the natural occurring world for him. And now she is sitting behind her son silently watching this moment, with the air sucked from her lungs, and no words to say.
Holding her mouth and silently crying because she doesn't want to distract him from the moment and break him away from a pure, honest, and truly fulfilling moment for her son of his own free will. This is truly magic. Words cannot explain it.
I have cried so many times for this boy, but this is the very first time I have cried for a reason like this.
It's new, it's painful, it's wonderful, and it's grateful. I will always stand behind this boy (probably still crying ) but I am grateful that he will have Tornado to stand beside him. The 4 Paws magic is real. The wait is long, but this moment right here makes it worth every moment of waiting. It's worth every fight for services for my son, every diagnosis, every new provider, every dollar spent, every paper filled out, every school meeting, every shed tear, every step forward, every step back, and every wonder of the unknown future. Somehow because of this- because of Tornado- I know everything will be okay.

And to be honest, it's quite disruptive if you are trying to work. I marked it up as a trial... Can happen right? Some time later... You guessed it. I'm in doubt, dogs/cats at the office can be good, but imho only if they are not disruptive, well trained AND nobody is allergic/uncomfortable. Not everybody likes dogs/cats. So at least inquire.

WELL BEHAVED DOGS ONLY PLEASE. Had this at a former job. Unfortunately some dogs just shouldn't be taken to work. One big german shepard mix would just quiver and cower under the owners desk, stressed as hell. The Co-owner (wife of husb/wife couple) brought their spastic Australian Sheppard in, the dog was running all over nervously... It's name was Trapper, soon nicknamed "Crapper" (as in all over the hallway). Another VP brought in her 5 King Charles Spaniels, they were the best behaved bunch, staying in her office and chillin. One of them would sneak to my office down the hall and timidly stick her head around the door until I invited her in... my little buddy.

My heartfelt condolences to you and your family. My dad passed away 7 months ago. He used to call home when he was on his way from work, and their dog knew it was him calling and started wagging his tail. After my dad's gone, for a while, he would sit near the phone expecting a phone call from my dad.

Wisława Szymborska - The Cat in the Empty Flat To perish - you don't do it to a feline, For what can it possibly do, In the empty flat? Clamber the walls, Rub against the furniture, It all seems unchanged, And yet, all has changed, All the things as they were, And yet, spaced more widely, The lamp shines no more in the evenings, Some steps on the staircase, But not those steps, The hand putting the fish on the plate, Is no longer the same, Something disrupted, The daily routine, Something is wrong, Instead of right, There was a person, Who has dissappered, Persistengly absent, All the drawers looked into, All the shelves run through, There's nothing under the carpet, Even the rule broken, The papers scattered, What else could possibly be done? Hold on and sleep, Why, let the him come,

I had a rescue Saint Bernard and of course he was massive. He loved every animal. We had this 3-4 week old kitten and we couldn't keep them away from each other. But we were worried he would accidentally step on her and hurt/kill her. But after days of them insisted of being together I left them together. She would burrow under his ear and she would be totally hidden. They did everything together.

here we call it frozen tail. It is cute and sad. It makes you laugh untill you cry, but feeling horrible for your dog. it is the funniest and saddest thing in the world. Wagging to much, and spraining your tail... we don't deserve dogs.

This happened to my Labrador one ChristmS! My husband was possitive he had an infected gland. So he would put warm compresses on and massage at base of tail. I took him to the vet the next day. NOPE! No clogged glands! He sprained his wagger!! But the compresses made him feel so much h better the vet said!!!

I have two black cats - brothers who had been dumped by the road. I bottle fed them and I guess as a result they are extremely close to me. One of them can actually open the bathroom door and comes slinking in - absolutely no privacy! The other sits outside my shower until I get out. They are both concerned when we are not together.

Snakes are cold blooded though. Clothing would only isolate them a bit, but not work like it does for us. When a snake gets too cold it seeks warmer places, this would work less well when being isolated too though.

Apparently (I read on the internet, so it must be right) crows are highly intelligent and can recognise individuals who have been kind or mean to them. And they remember.

There's a documented story of 2 neighbors- 1 that tried to keep the crows away shooing them and dosing them with their hose. The other fed them and gave them a sanctuary. The crows would poop on the mean neighbors property and brought gifts to the nice neighbor. Lesson of this story- be nice to the crows.

My cat Grady, normally a rambunctious kitten, knew I was pregnant before I did! He'd come up and cuddle my belly for hours! He's unsure about the kid (now 11 months, she's reached the grabbing phase), but he's so patient and tolerant with her, it's wonderful.

A doe is fertile 30 minutes after giving birth, then when you have a litter of 4 week old kits along comes litter two…even if the buck is instantly neutered, it takes 6 weeks to be sure he’s firing blanks. A very common situation rescues have to deal with. Sometimes I wish I never worked in rescue or learned about rabbits, it’s hard not to be overwhelmed by the horror.

Do you like poop? I hope you like poop, because that is what you get when you get a bunny. It just falls out of their butt randomly. 200-300 poopies per day from a bunbun. I learned more about poop than I EVER wanted to know when I became mommy to a Netherland Dwarf rabbit.

Mine took a big dump and peed on my down comforter when I was gone for like 2 weeks. My stupid roommate just folded over the edges and left it. He was kind of a jerk. (the roommate, not the cat).

Horses can lay down for a little bit as they need atleast 2-3 hours of heavy sleep which means they have to lay down as standing during the heavy sleep can well lead to falls.

Not to sound heartless, but I'm glad people outlive their pets simply because if it was the other way around, so many animals would be put back into shelters. I'm currently trying to find a santuary for my doi in case I go before her. I don't want her ever to go back into a shelter.

Crippling arthritis at young age. Possibility of organs being too large for bone structure. Not to mention the inbreeding required. Shepherds have been through enough of that. Better husbandry has brought the worklines back true to form hopefully showlines will follow. I'm not a breeder but I have a now retired stud and have been very conscientious of husbandry.

eh, most cats get like that, mine play with each other when high (cat nip) but considering how when we lost snickers (don't worry we found him a day later!) she was crying the entire time, i'd say they love each other.

My dog had a false pregnancy, and when no pups were born she fixated on a little blue squeaky toy and tried to nurse it. When it squeaked she thought it was crying for food and she would bring it to me pleading for help. I asked the vet how long this would last and he said, until the "puppy" is weaned. I finally had to hide it and comfort her as she grieved. Broke my heart.

I "adopted" (really just fed) a couple strays and noticed one kept losing her litters; she'd get super skinny and depressed overnight. I finally scrounged up enough money and get her fixed.
