So, a radio station in Australia has a segment called Like a Version where bands come in and record a cover and it's been going for 20 years, so they are having a countdown of your favourite ones. This got me thinking, what is your favourite cover of a song?

Johnny Cash singing Hurt. Trent Reznor said something like "It is not my song anymore." That song always makes me cry, especially with video.

I love Black Nail Cabaret (a band from Hungary) and I think they are soooo underrated! Their original songs are great, but they can totally do cover versions too, e.g. these:

Voyage Voyage (original version by Desireless).
Rent (original version by Pet Shop Boys)
Tell me it's not over (original version by Starsailor)

Please do, the singer has such an amazing voice! IIRC, you like dark music, too, so maybe they‘ll actually be something for you!

Look up Halocene, and their other linked bands/singers on Youtube, they do some fantastic covers. Their Bo Rahp is the best cover of that song I have ever heard.

My younger daughter enlightened me to Fiona Apple’s cover of The Beatles’ “Across The Universe”. It’s my current favorite cover.

To add some kind of aussie content....
" and the band played waltzing Matilda" (by eric bogle) covered by The Pogues..... A beautiful song made even better....
( one of the few high points of my life was once getting drunk at a BBQ in outback SA with Eric Bogle, in the 80s, and making him play it for me!)

Yay for the Aussie content! I can't remember if I had heard this version before, but I love it! (That must have been a crazy experience, I'm glad you were able to remember it after the fact 😀)

Summer Night City by Therion. It takes the pop tune of ABBA and transforms it into a symphonic metal masterpiece.

Mine probably has to be Little Lion Man done by Tonight Alive on Punk Goes Pop Vol4. I mean you really can't go wrong with a Punk Goes Pop song, they've created some of my favourite covers ever (honourable mentions to Flagpole Sitta by Chiodos & Toxic by A Static Lullaby) but Little Lion Man will always be my song and this version kicks it up a notch

Probably either Livin' La Vida Loca by Autumn Kings (originally by Ricky Martin) or Eleanor Rigby by Palaye Royale (originally by the Beatles)
