I(f) have been friends with (m) for 19 years. I worked for a marketing company, cold-calling businesses and this friend owned a business that I called daily for approx 6 weeks or so. Well, one day I was going to lunch and told him after my lunch I'd call back one last time. He stated no call during lunch, since calls are recorded. I did, seemed as he was a loner and just wanted to talk. We lived states away, and made it a point to talk daily. Fast forward through marriages, kids and all, we still stayed friends, even one of his girlfriends banned him from talking to me. I've had many other marketing jobs and called him, he'd purchase items, birthday gifts for myself, kids and spouse. Keep in mind, we've NEVER seen each other in person. Luck would have it that his adult daughter moved to a place I was vacationing and we arrived on the same day, but me and my group approx 40 min before he arrived. Me at gate 17 and he at gate 28, so quite a walk.By the time I made it through, his plane had arrived and he's already off the plane and made no effort to see me even though we're only 11 gates away and I've held my group up thinking we would at least greet each other 10 min and meet later. All the while, he's texting me, his daughter wasn't feeling well, so she had to go to hospital and had no idea where he'd shower or sleep. My group said we're not going to be in the room all day, let him come, sleep and shower there. He didn't show, so I offered to meet at a restaurant near the hospital or even hospital cafeteria. Then he says oh she was ok now we're at her apt unpacking boxes. Still texting. I was there and entire week and no effort on his part was made to see me, kids, or group. This was over a year ago, he texts me every single day and I'm thinking WTH are you texting me for? What kind of friend are you really? I'm really over it, being a friend and would really like to end friendship. His mother has passed away months ago and he takes care of dad with dementia. Would I be wrong to end friendship?

I think you should ask/question him politely why he did not make an effort to meet you. Depending on his answer you can make a decision. You never know there might be a genuine reason he did not meet you. You guys have been friends for a long time which is rare & difficult with marriage, work & distance

My best friend and I met when we were 12 and have been for the next 24 years. When we were teenagers it was easy, but as we grew up, moved, relationships, etc, making time for each other sometimes was difficult, but we did. However there was a period of 2 years when I hit rock bottom, drugs, and jail and even though my friend would call I was too ashamed. We got through it, and I don't think from what you've said your friend was like me, but maybe seeing you in person was awkward for some reason. The best thing to do is to reevaluate your friendship, and then talk to them. 19 years is a long time, people change. So maybe you 2 aren't as compatible. It could be you used to be friends but just drifted apart and one or neither party want to admit it. It seems like he just wants to be pen pals. Also, is there a chance maybe his spouse is uncomfortable? I only say this since you mentioned your female. I hope the best though
