There’s been a lot of debate about whether or not the United States should ‘reopen’ during the coronavirus pandemic. Whichever side of the fence you might be on, I think that we can all agree that there’s a certain way that things can and should be done to save lives. Reopening can be done well—but it takes a lot of effort and creativity.

We have a unique insight into how the US could be reopened and what the new normal could look like. From social distancing circles in a park in Brooklyn to see-through separators at bars and designated waiting areas at coffee shops, these reopening measures might become something we see everywhere in the US. Scroll down and upvote your fave safety measures, dear Pandas!

As of May 20, every single state that had imposed a stay-at-home or shelter-in-place order has begun lifting the coronavirus quarantine restrictions that were put in place on businesses and public spaces, in one form or another, CNN reports.

Drive-In Movie Theaters Are Returning

Drive-In Movie Theaters Are Returning

I hope this is a social adaptation that sticks around permanently. I used to love going to the drive-in as a kid and would to take my kids someday.

Same here. Hard to imagine there’s one—-actually nearly two—-whole generations of kids who grew up never knowing how much fun drive-ins are. When you’re little and go with your parents, you’re in your jammies and usually fall asleep in the back seat. When you’re a teenager, it’s a movie date with at least a modicum of privacy (but not total privacy, management makes sure of that). And when you’re a parent, your kids are the ones in their jammies falling asleep in the back seat.

I think it would be great. When we were a young family, that was the thing to do. We could afford it, the kids were free, and there was no baby sitter needed. It was a fantastic week-end thing to do!

Drive-in movies, drive-in concerts, zoo drive-throughs (our zoo is starting this today), museum drive-throughs, I'm sensing a definite trend here. Guess I'll need a car soon!

Of course, each state is lifting restrictions differently. So while some states allow people to go back to restaurants, offices, and places of worship in all counties, others are more careful about this.

For instance, the stay-at-home order in Alabama expired on April 24 and retail stores, hair salons, libraries, gyms, and bars are all reopened. However, California is going a different route by opting for regional reopenings. In California, since May 12, restaurants and shopping centers have been reopening bit by bit. But only in counties that meet the required criteria.

New York is doing things similarly to California by going for limited regional reopenings from May 15. The reopenings are limited to partial construction, manufacturing, and curbside retail but don’t include “major aspects of public life,” according to The New York Times. Beaches should also be reopening soon, but it’ll be a while before the state goes back to normal. New York has been especially hard-hit by Covid-19.

There have been 353k confirmed cases of the coronavirus in New York and 22.8k people have died. 195k of those infected were in New York City and nearly 15.8k of those who died lived there as well. The US has more than 1.58 million coronavirus cases in total and 301k people have recovered from the illness.

I'm not scared of a virus. There are a thousand things that cpuld kill me in my old normal life. A car crash. Cancer. A mugger. Lightening. "The Big One" earthquake. And my mom is vulnerable enough that the common cold or flu has hospitalized her already many times in the past few years. We all live, and die, and we don't know when. So what? Be reasonably cautious, enjoy life. What scares me is the fact that our government is getting way too big. And most of the American people are too comfortable to mind.

I don’t see how people can do this and think it’s safe. This is dangerous and stupid.

And I suppose you are one of those panicky people who would prefer stay at home orders forever. Best way to control the population, isn't it?

If only the virus didn't have an 2 - 14 day incubation period where people are contagious without symptoms, this might actually be useful. Instead it's just "infection-theater" to make people *feel* safe.

Many people with covid never had a fever. I am sure this does some good, just not sure to what extent.

25-50% of all those infected with the virus are asymptomatic -- meaning they won't have temperatures. This is NOT a way to indicate if someone is healthy or not!

Asymptomatic for up to 14 days. Most will eventually have symptoms, and they typically worsen the second week after they initially appear.

Temperature checks do almost nothing. People can incubate for 2 weeks without symptoms and still spread.

You can have the virus but not have a temperature. You can be a carrier for up to 14 days with no symptoms. This is pointless.

Too much of a hassle for me to go out in this new world. Seems like it's going to be a lot of waiting in line. I already hate LA traffic so my introvert self is going to stay put lol

Get ready for the second wave.. if there can be crowds like this right now at theme parks because they "temperature check" it's gonna spike again.

Everywhere should have this: malls, work places and most definitely schools.

The person who downvoted you is most likely an American who "woke up in a free country"
